@duz: Hydropower valves and such would be really out of place in my opinion. Scenery at the top looks good as it is IMO. I wouldn't bother with any kind of horizon - they always look bad without parallax. Other than that good suggestions.

I think some kind of mayan/tribal theme would work well here. Bases look like good locations for some kind of ceremonial area with tiki torches and sacrificial altars. Bottom tunnel could be made into a mine with tools and human skeletons buried or scattered around. Top tunnel could be overgrown with vines, with some broken pottery scattered around. Slopes under the bridges could be made to look like stairs. At least that's how I imagine this map to be.

One thing I want to point out though: please make sure that normal polys and background have strong enough contrast so they don't blend in. Right now most of the bottom tunnel kinda blends in, though there's some nice contrast on the ceiling in the middle of the tunnel.

To be honest I would stick to more industrial look rather than on Jungle theme.

Most of maps are this type, and there should be more city/factory because there are actually none of them in soldat right now.

I made cobra remake, but I would need to lower contrast of it and change top texture to different one, so even if its still 100% original cobra is was just to dark(also I F up tunnel background)

If you really want to make remakes just dont make map that still look like 2007, what is the point of remakes if maps gonna look flat old and without a specific style, Just another 2007 jungle map...

Interesting suggestions there. I'll see how much I can do without needing to create the scenery myself. #KeepSoldatLight

To be perfectly honest, I'm in two minds about this. As much as I like the brigter atmosphere of your remake (and we need some brighter maps), I've gotta agree with Akinaro that we already have a lot of tropical/jungle maps, so something more industrial-themed like Akinaro posted would be better variety-wise. That said, most of the jungle maps we have right now look like trash and also need remaking, so some of them can potentially be remade in a different theme (I wouldn't count on that though, people will probably get pissed off).

If you plan on sticking with the jungle theme - I recommend you really focus on the civilisation aspect (less flora, more abandoned human-made things). I think that'll be a reasonable compromise.

That said, I'll still miss the more industrial-looking Cobra.

I'll make it look more deserted. Probably gonna cut down on trees and add desert stuff. Maybe even something wasteland-ish with nuclear stuff. We'll see. :)

Do you think you can just keep it close to original Cobra, but with better texturing and more sceneries? :D

That's the real remake, I would like to see it as default ;)

If you want to discuss what remake to choose, that goes in the correct place: here.

Stop derailing my threads with shameless self-promotion.

There is difference between example image and "shameless self-promotion"

Its not my fault that you necropost old topic, just to discuss something that should be made before.

Also is a bullshit that you still think thay you can #KeepSoldatLight and in the same time you want HD remakes...
You cant keep maps 400kb in size and expect hd look(like 1mb of my map would kill your HDD).

And if you complain that map is to complex? Seriously?
So in one way you want better looking map and in other you still want empty map... Nice.

Not without a reason I mentioned that your map look like it was made in 2007... Because its look old and just ugly.

Look is personal taste, and this is just my opinion, you can like ot or not. And if such map could be default.. We could just take bunch of old maps from tms.jrgp.org and call it new.

@Akinaro: Try to be nice sometimes. It is nice to be liked. ;)

There's a difference between feedback and bashing. You might want to read through this resource and learn something useful for your life. I don't see you going far with your attitude.

I don't get it. DC, Akinaro just suggested a theme for you. He not even posted his remake link and suggested that his remake is better when yours.
You are fighting at the wrong battle instead of fight to improve the game. The creator of the best remake really matters? I'd pick a remake made by Kim Jong-un if he did the best one.

The fact is that Akinaro showed that he has a good remake and you should smile because it's less work to do, theoretically. But both remakes are unfinished, his remake has all the texture problems that should be fixed for 1.7 etc.
Message him, pick the map, check if you could improve it or not, work together, I don't know. Just stop that bullshit.
