What with headshots?

What happened with headshot feature? In 1.6.4 i could do full clip of barret giving 10 headshots in row. Now i'm surprised when i hear headshot.wav.

true. Could you find out more about it? If there is some connection as to when it play the sound or not. If you find out more I will make a bugreport

I wouldn't want it to play all the time though so maybe it's a good thing

Yup, true, but for e.g. 5 HS per map on public ctf server is fine number. It doesn't play every kill, but not so rare that you forget about the feature. The second thing is the point of the problem.

I'll make some research, however I don't think that it will take short time. I'm quite busy recently.

Looks like it was introduced in the 1.5.0 version. Can't find any thread about changing how often it is played.

Head explodes sometimes(50% chance) if killed by a headshot from Barrett/Ruger
Anyone else got an opinion of prefered behavior?

The biggest chance to achieve headshot is to kill player/bot while he's in prone position. At least it was like that some versions ago. I don't remember, but I have jumped from 1.6.3 or 4 to 1.6.7 after some break. Maybe then?

Not really; or, at least if it is like that, it shouldn't be.

It seem to me that this feature is very glitchy for online game; I get that sound even with M79 from time to time...  :o
Owned by player with high ping = Blame the ping.
Keep getting owned when playing on the other side of the world and got high ping = Blame the ping.

Make sense...

not entirely sure, but if I recall correctly from some versions ago it was a hardcoded decision in soldat code depending on the damage done to a player. As headshots get multiplied damage mostly they would lie in that range

The headshot sound entirely stopped working as intended a few versions ago. When it was introduced it happened very often when you hit someones head with Barrett, and almost never with other weapons. Now it just seems to happen equally rarely with all weapons; knife is just as likely to play the sound as Barrett. My guess is that some change in the weapons code as a side effect somehow killed off the Barrett's tendency to play it more often.

It'd be nice to see this either fixed or removed, since the current state of the feature makes it completely meaningless.

First thing - yup, but you forgotten about Ruger. Ruger was likely equally or more often generating this effect.
Second - I agree, but I'd rather vote for fixing.

There never was a use for double- / triple- or multikill messages as well.
