Disable free cam while dead

Dying should not be rewarded by the ability to fly through the map to scout for incoming enemies and the location of the flagger.

You can allready scout by watching your friendly players. Using freecam I think is actually too slow and I find myself only using it if I have no idea where the flag is. Not sure if I agree or disagree with the suggestion yet.

You can allready scout by watching your friendly players.
You see only what the friendly player is able to see and that's okay, only problem being that currently the camera doesn't instantly switch to the selected player but instead hops from one player to another allowing you to see more.

Using freecam I think is actually too slow
Three seconds is plenty to go through the whole map and have a rough idea about the enemy's whereabouts.

What about other game modes?
I personally think it should be disabled for other modes aswell and in non-team modes you should not be able to follow anyone after dying. Especially unfair in duels where you'll be able to tell what the enemy is going to do after killing you and also when you both are dead, the person who spawns later has the advantage because he knows where the other person has spawned.
In normal DM it's too easy to spot campers by just dying and scrolling through every player to see their locations.
Other modes I don't care much about.

Also iirc the moment you die on realistic you can see everything like in normal mode for a moment which in my opinion is gamebreaking, considering how crucial the positioning in this mode is.

But what about game modes that don't involve killing opponents?

AFAIK Soldat doesn't have such modes ::)
Obviously the best solution would be to give the choice to the server's admin just like with everything else that people have been debating in the past, such as visible team chat.

I just noticed.. The respawn is normally 3 seconds, but there is a delay of around 1 sec before you are able to go to freecam. I think that's why I feel it's not fast enough to use..

And how would it affect those non-existing modes like RunMode or Climb? I think it wouldn't and they don't exist anyway.
Then there are modes like HnS which ofc involves killing. But I am not quite sure, there's a lot of running involved.... it's usually just one guy trying to kill the others, could we add HnS to existing modes? Do you agree? Yes, me neither.
I can also think of DB, KO etc. Yea more weapons, lot of kills, maybe we should add those to existing modes. Or do they exist already? I am kinda lost now.
This question is really difficult to answer.

What about survival? Would be boring to have to spectate your corpse til the end of the round.

I could see this being a server option (though I thought it already was).

GhostCam=0 <-- Default value. Allows freecam and ghosting any player
GhostCam=1 <-- Allows freecam
GhostCam=2 <-- Allows ghosting any player
GhostCam=3 <-- Allows ghosting teammates
GhostCam=4 <-- You're stuck in CorpseCam

What about ghosting teammates only + freecam? IMHO freecam and ghosting should be separate settings. Also, I think it would make more sense if 0 was "Off" (CorpseCam only) and 1 was "On"
(Allow ghosting of any player + freecam if it's not a separate setting), and 2/3/4 being the remaining options.

Oh I love the idea of more options!

Making freecam an option would be confusing for players.
It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't, there is no way to know if it works on a certain server (adding another column to the serverlist is not a solution as there are so many columns already) and there is no feedback for players for why it is not working (more translation lines and unnecessary distractions from the game).

The main problem with too many options is that some of them doesn't actually do a shit. Especially in soldat config. This however is a good solution

Shoozza: This would be an option only available in the soldat.ini, so fuck the client GUI and its translations. It would be just like AntiSpy_Chat.

As a side note, we should probably add comments to each field in the .ini so it's documented e.g. which GameStyle you set for CTF.

There have to be multiple rules depending on which game mode you play.
For example DM could allow free cam. TM, CTF or any team based mode should not.
Notice that you should be able to spy on anyone in demo play mode and needs to be sent to the player when he joins the server.
In addition to that anyone could join spec to spy on teams so free cam has to work for spectators in all game modes...

The secret options in the soldat.ini are really really ugly hacks. I would like to get rid of them because they are more like hidden features no dev tends to test and add complexity to the fragile code base.
