Request: Tutorial, modding interface guns.
« on: October 09, 2007, 02:53:54 pm »
I'd like to make a mod now that I need spriting lessons anyway. I've made mods for my self but it has allways been the interface guns that sucked. So I ask you modders with talent to help me by making a tutorial of some sort.

The type of shading/coloring I would like to have a tutorial(s) step by step on is(are):

Espadon's Halo Legendary Trilogy or Deadeye Rob's Battlefield-2142 Mod.

Yeh, but I used direct color sampling for my HLT mod, which just requires some artistic sense and knowledge about color theory. Shouldn't be a problem for you, devil.

In most cases, knowledge is nothing, imagination is everything. It will be not a problem if you have ideas how to improve something just by outline, sample colors etc, so always known which is your next step and doesn't matter if you have actual skill, style or nothing.

Oh thank you. The tutorials are of great help.

I made my first gun following the first tutorial which reflects the style I'm aiming for:

I'm not sure If I'm done with it yet. Comments are welcome.

Think you should have a bit less color differential between the 5th and 6th frames.

I forgot to make a screen between those two. That's why it adds a lot.

Some edits:

With the same color as the darkest on the outline:

I smell Crysis. Are you trying to...

Why are you using that odd palette? Why not using the 0,255,0 green color?

You guessed right ::)

The green color hurts my eyes and makes it hard for me to see how the image looks(dunno why). I'll change it when I move the files to Soldat.

Is it looking good in quality and shading? I hope to make it decent looking at least. BTW. Which one is better black outline or the darkest color as the outline?

Only outline outside weapon to keep form and borders/edges of that weapon, where is end.
Black color is only basic for starting with scheme, general outline with all or first details. Black color at  complete outline always make weapon flat, doesn't matter how good is your shading at other parts. Using darkest color for all outline make your weapon blurred, so inside are details temporary marked visible with black color, outside just outline for general, overall form. You must known where are details and they ends, also where are borders for general, overall outline outside weapon, dont forget to make lights and shades  working closer to real at 3d object like in real world, role of chiaroscuro at image.
Example at pics:

My tutorial isn't about how you can using/learn my own complete style exactly from steps, but may be helpful to build/create personal style. Just to prevent "one modder's style clones" that because can be similiar but must be different than on tutorial.
Small explanation why only there at weapon is real black part:

I tried it in Soldat and yes it is a little to big but I'm going to solve it in some way.

I don't aim at making your style but something similar as it appeals to me. I used the tutorial how to apply the colors but not how to shade(I used my imagination). Thank you for the outline thing it helps a lot.

EDIT: The different types of setup for the gun.

More XM8 than SCAR :) I also think that if there's any possibility to do that then make 3 pixels barrel (2 pixels for outlines and 1 for shading).

That shading looks promising, also outlines so I think you will be a good modder. :P
Nvm, soon I extend that tutorial to gosteks, interfaces and more.

@ PaFel: Don't push it :)
I dunno the silencer in the game is big.

@Henito Kisou: Thank you. I means a lot coming from a modder!
Gostek tutorials sound great.

Here is a new weapon(maybe I should start a new topic in Partial Modifications):

Heh :)

Also the optics would look good "sticked" to carry handle :)

*Try to remake the curve of the magazine.

I realised that this gun looks completly other than SCAR :)
