Making LANParty

Hi there, I wanted to make a LAN-Party with my little brother (playing Soldat :) ) and bought a 3 metres long network-cable (for LAN) to connect my pc with his laptop, but we failed, because we dont know how to do :)

-What do I have to do for connect our pcs?
-Do I need a server?
-Has the servers folder to be in the soldat-directionary?

Well if u wanna play woth ur brother, just tell him to download soldat in his computer (like this both of u will have soldat) and then u guys should go in the same server by given each other the same  server IP and then YAY have some fun!
