Script-controlled sceneries
« on: July 15, 2009, 03:02:50 pm »
Damn, I really feel bad spamming up the section with my threads. Please dont hurt me.. <_<

anyway. A simple suggestion:
An ability to change color, position, scale and opacity of the sceneries on-the-fly, using scripts. Unlike gifs, those changes would be synchronised with the server.

In order to prevent people from overusing this feature and creating massive lagging maps with a ton of sceneries moving around, sceneries should be kept static in map itself. Only scripts would have the ability to refer to existing sceneries on the map and change them ingame, without modifying actual map. Would be nice to have an ability to add new sceneries that a map doesn't have in the first place.

examples of use:
  • Sceneries with lighting for day and night, changing every few minutes to simulate day/night change.
  • In MMod or a similar server, a picture of a mine can appear where you placed a mine.
  • In trenchwars you can have an indicator of a "border" between blue and red team, which would move left or right, depending on which team is dominating and how much.

AFAIK, it's NOT possible right now. The point of this (and many other suggestons I made.. in the last half an hour..) are mapping suggestions that would probably need map format change. But when that happens, I hope most of them will be added.

Still a good suggestion anyway even if it isn't possible.

I support if it's possible.

It's not possible atm, but it would be pretty neat.

Though from a coding point of view if this was done then it would be very easy to do the same with every part of a map (polygons, etc).
