Account System
« on: September 21, 2006, 06:04:42 pm »
Well, this account system would basically change Soldat totally.

To play the game, you'd have to create an account with a name. This name is not changeable. When you start the game, you input your username and password.

The more you play, the higher your rank gets.

Also, you'd have a VIPlist where you could add friends. In the filter section, you could mark "friend servers", and only servers with friends would appear.

Um, that's it I think.

Baaad idea. I hate it when games force you to register an account before playing.

Joako: The point of Soldat isn't about that, it's more about being able to have some fun within 5 minutes of free time (or more). Having to log in, create an account would just slow it all down. Also, what exactly would having a buddy list and account deliver? Anyone can easily use stuff like Xfire or AIM, because the system resource draw on Soldat is low enough to have other programs on and not bog down the game.

it would be fun and better imo but it's just not soldat.  soldat should stay soldat period.
Can't think of anything original to put here...

For the "VIPlist": just give everyone you want to be able to join the password to a passworded server which you set up. ;) Simple.

Create a new opportunity for hackers? hell no. people mimicing others is enough, let alone finding the drama that you've been hacked.

Agreed.

But it will be quite cool though. This idea may change soldat completely with new features.

doing this would drop soldat even more....

Adding static online accounts would-
1) Overly complicate the coding of Soldat
2) Push Soldat too far beyond being a simple, easy-to-use shareware game
3) Piss off the people who play w/out an internet connection
4) Be annoying as hell to the rest of us
5) Require a pricy and delicate static database to store all user data

No.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

PLUS I have to worry about my K:D ratio in soldat....Actually no I don't, because I pwn anyways even when I haven't played for 2 months. BUT someone else will get frustrated and hate soldat forever just like I hate Day Of Defeat: Source.

If that's your opinion, I guess I'll let it be...

Still, I think it would be fun to see what server your friends are playing.

Hm.

I think you should be able to add IPs to a list, a "friend" list, and add an option in filters to only show servers with friends on it. Less complicated, changes less stuff, but is still great.
