CTF_Explore - A puzzle map

ctf_Explore - A puzzle map by Tim (KamikazeDuck) Jeffs

A detailed description:

Alrighty, this is the map which was going to be based on the map "Myst" as suggested by Mistercharles. As I was making the map I decided not to focus on making the map like Myst but to focus more on giving it its own feel.

I was inspired by Avarax's DM_Thenether so I extended his idea and made this.

I was going to post this a few weeks ago but I went on a holiday to Bangkok so here it is now. It's not perfect so I'd like input from you about the difficulty of each puzzle in the map. Keep in mind I can't make huge changes because I've near-maxed out the scenery and there is already about 1970 polygons.

I'm sorry if this map lags on your computer but I thought I'd put in a lot of eyecandy seeing as this is a map that you wouldn't want to play online or with bots.

Screens that give away nothing:

Overview URL:
Overveiw (WARNING - SPOILS MAP SECRETS!)

Solutions:

Use these as a last resort!

Stone Ring
Sky Temple (left) - Pillar Room
Clouds + Bounce platform
Sky Temple (right) - Drain Room
Secret Caves (all)
Totem Poles + Waterfall
Cavern Bounce Platform
The Darkness

Please try not to give away solutions in this thread and remember that I am looking for improvements with the difficulty level of this map. If you think that by explaining an issue with the map you will be spoiling the map for people please pm me.

Other than that, enjoy!

Wow, just finished it. It was really fun, and the visuals were great. The drainroom was delightfully fun. :D I had to use the help thingys once because I fell off the right side of the spawn. The design of the skytemple was also incredible.

That was such a wicked map, how long did it take you to do?

Thanks for the feedback.

Do you think there are any parts I should make harder or easier? I'm open to suggestions.

How long it took me to make this? I honestly have no idea, it would have taken a lot faster to make but I ran into some problems when nearing the end. Soldat would crash every time I tried to play the map so I had to cut down on scenery scenery around the bottom. 1997 polygons > 1930 polygons and 500 scenery > 462 scenery.

jrgp, I think you just gave away the finish...  :P

There are a few adjustments that you could use to make it harder, but not many people would know how to make the jumps. I think they are more skill as opose to observation. But with the "Tunnels" and whatnot, you should take away the scenery entrances, once you get one, you know where all the entrances are, so maybe just take away the scenery where the tunnels are? I'm not too sure, just one idea that came to mind.

That is just a beautiful map, and it's a real shame it's wasted on something so shortlived. :( :) The only real problem is that you can walk left of the spawn area to land in "the darkness" part of the map, skipping by just about everything.

jrgp, I think you just gave away the finish...  :P

Not only did he stupidly spoil it, but the low health tells me he probably M79ed his way through it. :(

very nice! a single player theming I felt on this one. It was very easy but still enjoyable. (especially i like that it has no deadly polys) this is a new trend!

p.s. you could put the flags in the finish : P

No, my weapons were the mp5 and knife. I got my health low becuase i was using my knife to throw at walls to see if they were hollow or not, and a few times it came back and hit me.

Beautiful!  Inspiring!

We need more "puzzle" maps like these.

EDIT: This map didn't cause any fps drops on my computer.

Agreeing with everyone here this is an awesome map. Puzzles are creative and it looks great of course. Good that you made a map like this instead of trying to do some half-assed ctf map or something around the pretty visuals.

This is amazing, but it took me forever to get the ring right. :P

great map, i just beat it. had to look at the spoiler for the last part though.

for the caves, i think it would be harder if you make it more like a maze, with dead ends and loops and all sorts of things like that

For that last part, I shot the walls too, only I sprayed the minigun to find my way. :P  I didn't use the jetpack tactic, though.

O..M..G! We really need more maps like this!!!!
This offered me great fun for 25 minutes.
The cloud temple gave me somewhat fantasy like feeling which was good.
Need more mappys like this.
