Seperate Weapon-GFX folders and weaponnames.txt folder for teams
« on: November 11, 2006, 04:48:07 pm »
Simple, and good for modding.
You can have two folders named "alphaweapongfx" and bravoweapongfx.

Defaults for both would be current weapons, but you can mod 'em seperatley to make team specific weapons.

EX- MP5 turns into Thompson and MP-40.

same for the .txt folder.

Shupported. Possibly even team specific weapons.inis? I know everyone says this would be abused, but then people just wouldn't *play* servers/mods that abuse imbalance like that.

Optional means making both of them the same serverside. ;)

i love this idea soo much. You would need ones for charlie and delta as well though!  (USA, Germany, Italy, Russia--WWII lol)
Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!
As for the abusing part, there are already servers that have , uhm ," imperfect" weapon mods onit.
EDIT:
Each mod should have its own GFX and Weapons settings in a compressed file. When you join such a server, something similar to mapdl happens and the mod is one your pc and you see al the weapons as they really work. You should then be able to host your own mod games by selecting the mod in soldat from a dropdown menu ( like selecting a map) and delete the crappy ones...

yes, good.  you can mix an uneven weapon set with uneven maps for infiltration and make some pretty interesting games methinks.  Like offense team always has longer ranged weapons or something?  And i would definitely like to use an soldat edition m1 garand.

could u make terrorists vs. usa?  infiltrate fallujah? im not a modder myself, does anyone kno if its possible make a gun that blows ur self up for terrorists?

this thread has me thinking... could u mod a mall terrorist attack scene?  A bunch of unarmed, unaggressive civilian bots walk around in a mall (no jets), there are US or UK agents, and terrorists try to sneak in and blow themselves up.  Agents get a certain number of points for killing a terrorist, terrorists get a certain number of points for killing civilians, but agents lose lots of points for killing a civilian.  Bots begin panicking if shots are fired or someone blows up.  That would be a cool game.  Shut up, I don't care if its impossible, I like to dream.

Whoah... this would make 28 diffirent weapons per match.
Stealing the other teams weapons would be great aswell.

Or if that is hard to code: when a soldat picks up a enemy weapon it becomes one that is available at his own team.

I'd love this. ZAFT vs EA weaponry.

No. it means you can just run around picking up every weapon, and then your team would be unstoppable. the idea of this is so you can't copy the other team, and a good modder will make it that gun 1 from A team can trump Gun 5 from B team, but Gun 3 from B team will trump Gun 1 from A team. Picking up every weapon so you can use it for the rest of the match ruins this. i say you can pick theirs up, but can use them until you lose it.

if they put in team1/2 it wouldnt be too hard for teams 3/4.

That's the only pickle I have with this idea, it'd look kind of weird for any weapon to change its look when picked up.
But then again, weapons don't stay around for that long, anyway. Love the idea, supported!

EDIT: I love the idea in total, not just the quoted one, by and by.

Read the rules, no image macros, even if it has your own caption in it --brick

Even if weapons must instantly change on pickup/drop, this would still be great. So it would have a graphical glitch, big deal. At least it works.

Yes it will. You keep the Glock. It was discarded onto the ground, so there's no reason it would magically transform into your team's counter-version of that weapon.

I think thats fine. I think if you pick up the other teams weapon it should become your teams counter part. This would stop a team from using weapons they aren't supposed to have.

I don't like that idea. In real life (using for example WWII) if you were an American G.I. and you shot a German you could take his weapon and it wouldn't turn into an M1 or a thompson :P I think it's very unrealistic and unbecoming in my opinion.
I think shooting an enemy and being able to take his weapon that is different from anything you can get on your team is very appealing and would add more to the atmosphere that is the soldat we all know and love ;)

Well this is an OLD suggestion....but I don't forum surf a lot, and I was inactive last school year...   So, I give this a 100% approval rating from Suburban Ninja!

Hmmm....we need to think though, since we don't want to put so much work on MM....how should this really work?

Some suggestions I have...

Gfx/Sfx/weapons.ini
Option A:
Have two different weapons graphics and sound effects, but keep it so that each set of weapons has the same weapons.ini to balance gameplay!

Option B:
Include 2 different sets of weapons.ini to diversify the gameplay of soldat, allowing for a more unique experience.

Think of more ideas!

Enemy weaponry!
Option A:
When picked up, make it turn into the corresponding weapon from the person's team.

Option B:
When picked up, the weapon will act normally but will be lost upon death.

Option C:
When you pick up an enemies weapon, the corresponding slot will change to that weapon.

Option D:
When you pick up an enemies when, the corresponding weapon slot will change to that weapon for a duration of 'X' amount of deaths.

Think of more ideas!

Well, that's all I could come up with for now.  I have to go do other things.... -.-"   See ya all later.

It has no sense to have only weapons-gfx and txt for other teams. I still think there should be different .ini at least for magazines capicty.

Umm, after much deliberation and considering both sides, I disagree for a simple reason. The dark side of random mods. People would probably abuse this and you couldn't find a normal server even less than now. Besides of this simple fact, i would agree.

He never checks this section of the forum.

This is an awesome suggestion.  Would really be neat to see teams with different weapons using mods that has modded weapons for each teams.  Complete support.

I kind of doubt that; it would require some serious twinks to the program. And it'd make modding a bit more annoying for people who don't want to implement it.

...meh. Still, it's not that I don't like the idea; I'm just sceptical about it being implemented so soon.

I don't think this suggestion wants seperate weapons.ini  files too... Just Weapon-gfx, Gun Interface, and Weaponnames.txt. Once again i support this.

Weapons.ini is, in my opinion, the most important one by far.

This might've been asked allready, but I couldn't really see it anywhere. How would the weapons GHX react when you picked up a weapon from another team? Would it switch to the 'friendly' interface, or would it remain the same?

I reckon it should remain the same. It'd be interesting to know how many people grab and use other peoples' weapons. :D

Not if you just copy and paste your weapons folder =p

Or you could simply leave it how it is now. If you only have one set of weapons, it automatically uses them for both teams.

I don't  see why this feature would bother any people. A very small number of servers use custom.inis
Umm, after much deliberation and considering both sides, I disagree for a simple reason. The dark side of random mods. People would probably abuse this and you couldn't find a normal server even less than now. Besides of this simple fact, i would agree.

how would that be abused? I know many modders would make more mods and maybe try balancing the game more and stuff. You don't need to be so pesimistic

If this will get in we'll need a new configurator program for some mods that has more than default amount of weapons.

I support it all the way. Will make things more interesting and some clever people might do something awesome out of it.

This would be amazing- hello covenant vs marines!

Although I don't like the idea of a different.ini file, I think it would just make balancing impossible.
