Flamer
« on: December 04, 2006, 10:04:16 pm »
Ok I love the flamer in soldat, I think it should be on the weapons list. A secondary I say. I worked with it a little and I think I got a good thing going here.

[Flamer]

FireInterval=8
Ammo=50
ReloadTime=20
Speed=90
BulletStyle=5
StartUpTime=0

Full support. Flamer shouldn't ONLY be Flame God, because then you can't use it in R/S, and that's no fun. Flamethrowers bounce off things, so that's an awesome tactical weapon.

Why can't you use Flame God in R/S?  There can still be powerups, right?

Nope... realistic mode has no powerups.

Secondaries are fine, you have long range law, mid range socom, short range knife and direct contact saw, what's the point in adding the flamer?

I wouldn't want it as a secondary. Long ago I posted that it should be made a primary, with its settings adjusted for balance, of course. Seems silly to have a new weapon in the game but limit it to a bonus item that hardly sees use. I feel similarly about the bow, too.

Is there no way to weapon mod a flame thrower as a primary without just making it a gun that sets people on fire? It's not the same if the weapon does't whip around deathy fire. :)

I agree, the flamer should be one of weapons you can get at each death (with new balance of course). But not bow. It would make rambomatch sensless.

No, cause the point system and overpowered bow settings wouldn't be carried over with the bow. I'd love to see it, at least. I'm not crazy about having four autos with minimal differences among them when there exists more varied weapons locked away elsewhere in the game.

I see. So what would be rambo's weapon? Same bow with different statistics?

Oh. you want to have two rugers with minimal differences! ;D

@topic: if the flamer would have higher range, it could be primary. if not - secondary.

The current Rambo bow is two overpowered bows in one -- you have the arrows and then the M79-ish flaming arrows. The Rambo mode is also designed so that only the bow holder gets points for kills. Having the bow available as a weapon in other modes would not negate the mode in anyway. Even then, no one plays Rambo mode as it is. :P

I'd love to see the bow take the place of the Barret as the mobile one-hit straight shot. Force the Barret into a LAW-style crouch or prone position only weapon with higher damage so that it can kill from a distance like a sniper should be able to do. The bow would have slightly less range than the Ruger but be an instant kill, though highly binkable and having roughly the Barret's reload/delay/etc. carried over to it. At least that's how I'd like to see it done. :P

With the correct balance I could see it as a primary. The maps balance out the game anyways so it wouldn't need too much work, it would just add something new to the game. And Mr. Domino, aside from the 4 autos all being very similar I agree with about everything you said. The bow would make a nice addition to the list of guns as well just as you explained it.

Of course these would be big changes in game-play for clan wars and gathers but people could get used to it.

well to put my two cents in..

I think if the flamer was put in, (and i think we should fix the minigun's 'locked potential' before we add a new gun), it should be a primary, and I think it should be gun that spreads out its fire a lot, weakening its damage.  Maybe spits three multidirectional flames each shot?  It would take the role of the multi-man killer, it spits out damage fast, it just can't focus that damage on a single person.  It would be unbinkable, but since it's flames have limited range it would be very balanced by longer range guns.  In tunnels it would be more merciless than the mp5 when the flames all focus in.

You could consider letting the new flamer detonate m79 grenades midair, but i dont think thats the best way to rebalance the m79.  im sure pretty much everyone knows my opinion on that by now.

Mr. Domino: You convinced me.
popsofctown: detonation of m79 granades makes 'splash' damage. if flamer has little range, its user would be hurt by the granade anyway.
Or not?
