connection timeout
« on: June 17, 2007, 01:53:32 pm »
This happens in every server I enter, sooner or later.
Everyone suddenly stops moving and at the upper left corner of the screen it says connection problem like 10 times. Then it says connection timout about 10 times, and eventually i autoamtically come out of the server. Can anyone help me? ???

Sounds like you have one of a few ISPs that block certain size packets that prevent soldat from working properly; if this is the case, there is nothing you can do except complain to your ISP.

Do you have wireless? Because you might just have a bad signal.

it might not be my ISP because i can play other games online. I get disconnected sometimes, but surely not as often as when i am in a soldat server. Many times I enter a soldat server and ten seconds later I get a timeout. On other games I can play for hours and I dont get disconnected

Try running this from a command prompt, post results in this thread.
Code: [Select]
ping -l 1 forums.soldat.pl
What if this is not the case? What can we do about it?

Not a whole lot, since it's not a problem with Soldat; it would be any one of numerous other problems. If you catch me with a PM when I'm online, I can arrange a test and monitor your connection to one of my servers, and tell you what is happening that is causing disconnects.

It says "1" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Why can't it be a problem with Soldat? In 1.3.1 everything works perfect. Since 1.4/1.4.1 this problem appeared. (couldn't play online in 1.4 though)

I can play (sometimes, not always) on most servers on 1.4.1 but after a while (can be 5 to 10 minutes I guess) some packets seem to get lost and boom I get disconnected.
Hopefully I think this is related to this topic. It's probably linked to the problems we get in lobby request window where servers show 9999 ping and don't respond to join request. I have to request several times to get actual latency and ability to join a server. When I get this problem, I also noticed the connection to alb.u13.net stays open. I have to close them manually and re-request servers to avoid errors.

Here's what I get pinging soldatforums with 1 octet:
Answer from 67.106.77.193?: octets=1 time=139 ms TTL=49
Answer from 67.106.77.193?: octets=1 time=138 ms TTL=49
Answer from 67.106.77.193?: octets=1 time=138 ms TTL=49
Answer from 67.106.77.193?: octets=1 time=137 ms TTL=49
Stats Ping for 67.106.77.193:
    Packets?: sent = 4, recv = 4, lost = 0 (loss 0%),
Nodes: Minimum = 137ms, Maximum = 139ms, Average = 138ms

I'll PM someday about this issue.

I think it has something to do with the patch. Ever since 1.4, I started having these problems more often, and 1.4.1 just seems to make it worse :-\

Copy/paste the command to make sure it's right.

And just send me a private message on the forums if you want to arrange a time for testing.

Your ISP is blocking packets of that size; nothing can be done aside from you complaining to your ISP, who most likely will not do anything.

Alternatively, you could attempt changing ISP's, but that's not up to you, most likely.

Would increasing the connection speed or changing the modem help?

My friend and I have the same ISP, and we both play Soldat, but his one does not get timeouts. Can you explain why our ISP  would do that to me and not to him

If that is indeed the case, then it's more likely to be a hardware/software problem on your end; either from some sort of strange firewall, or perhaps a firmware issue with modem/router. The number of possibilities is very large, and the chance of fixing it is very small.

I have an idea. Go to your modem/router config page, then click the WAN button, disable your  modem/router firewall, download update for your firmware from your modem/router manufacturer, save the settings and give your router/modem a full reboot. Go to the test page of your modem/router and do some ping packet tests. If your using a Modem I recommend Upgrading to a router cause modems suck and they break down alot!

You use your normal internet browser, such as Firefox or whatever it is that you are using. Then you have to find out what the ip of your router is and type that into the address bar. You'll need a username and a password to get access to the config though, so make sure you have that.

I believe the address is usually 192.168.0.1

I found out my IP address, typed it into the address bar, and it said:" We can't find (my IP address). "

Sorry if I'm asking alot of questions, but I'm no computer whiz. How do I find modem's IP address? I have it set to automatically assign an IP to my modem.

you can find it on your modems/routers instruction booklet.

If your using a D-LINK Router/Modem, the config ip is usually 10.1.1.1 or 10.1.1.3

If you can't figure out what your router's ip is, post the model that you have on here and someone will figure it out.
