the length of the hair at the front imo, they should be as short as on your sides, just go to a hairdresser instead of letting your mom do it, moms never admit the failure in these cases (at least mine)

Just go to a a mall hairdresser and get something short and simple. Maybe you think it's scary or it'll look worse than what you got now... But as long as you don't get a reverse Mohawk I can't see how you could possibly get something worse than now.

I too had a hard time parting with a split bowl cut back in the '90s.

It's not too horrible. I say shorten the top and the bangs and make it kinda messy / spiky.

I really appreciate the advice, but I'm trying to get a job and employers probably won't find that look attractive.

Actually you should let your hairs a bit, just a bit, longer to hide ears. You look like you're going to army or some kind of skinhead.. You can shape your head with ya hairs y'know.
