As far as stats go, what do you prefer?
« on: June 30, 2006, 03:51:13 am »
I was playing around U13's site and see that it ranks the top ten based on their K:D ratio. Personally, I've always gone for points, since I want my team to win, and that means capturing the flag. A good K:D ratio can be had just by standing back and letting enemies come to you, barret camping, and/or spraying. The same goes for kills. A points-scoring capture, however, will require confronting a number of enemies while making two trips across the map, and that is something that impresses me more, at least going from faceless statistics.

So, what do you prefer and why?

I prefer high K:D.  When I have a high K:D I think its good help for the team, say I take out 2 guys on my way to there base for my one life, which makes it seem like my teammates will have a better chance to get in and score.

Definatly high K:D for me. A high amount of kills just means youve been playing for long. And Points (you mean CTF right?) could mean that you got lucky by grabing the flag via a poorly defended low route or even just "stealing" a teammates flag after dieing near the cap position.

I have more respect for the person that has 15 kills and 1 death than the person who has 80 kills and 70 deaths.

I go for points myself. K:D-ratio is as much as useless and only gives you unnecessary bragging. Also, having high amounts of kills isn't that important but it's always fun to have tons of them.
Oh la la.

Hmm caps imho are the most important. Its good even if ur K:D is like 0.3 plus 2\3 caps (what happens quite often when playing 2x def and 1 rush tactic for example @ Ash or Run).

Points. Only points matter (or flag caps in CTF).

There needs to be an option about "For the Team!" for people who play to support the team (yes, this is different than playing for Points)

I believe they should give you all information at those stats:  kills, caps, total points (caps x 20 + kill (the way it's in the game)), deaths, (suicides?), and k/d ratio.  It should be up to the reader to interpret that information!

The problem with any statistics today (especially in the U.S.) is that, while it displays correct information, it gets interpreted differently - basically the people presenting these statistics are trying to misguide the people by forcing them to interpret the statistics a certain way.
Can't think of anything original to put here...

I'm just going purely from the stats available in Soldat and U13. Teamwork has no Soldat point spread tied into it, so it's worthless here. :) I do find better teams are generally made up of people who across the board do okay, rather than teams where one or two people score tons of points and the others are listed in the single digits.

K:D doesn't reflect skill, nor does amount of kills. So, neither.

I prefer the least amount of deaths possible. I really don't care how many kills I get, as long as I die below 15 and have more kills than deaths, Im usually happy.

It does represent skill, unless the player has been doing every lame trick in the book.

I LOVE defending the base in ctf with my m79, so im really a kill person, but when i need to attack im all about going out with a blaze of glory so to speak, cause with the m79 the reload time is so long you will die most of the time unless your point is to get the flag and leave, so I just get infront of a teammember and kill off some people to clear a path.

But when you come down to it, it doesnt matter if you died a hundred times to fifty kills. A high K:D ratio isnt going to win that cw match as well as getting 8 caps and dieing a million times. A ctf match is all about the caps, as long as i get them, i dont give a **** if i die. Anything to win.

Hm well that is your opinion. If I got lets say 20 kills and only 5 deaths, then I would be really proud. And even if we lost, I know I pulled my weight in camping and defending the flag as best as I could :P

K:D for me. Anytime i die with only one (or none) kills for that life, i chalk it up as a wasted life.  But when i have a crappy game, im just happy to have more kills than deaths lol
Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

Most kills every map is what I prefer. Deaths don't matter. Deaths are a vital element in soldat.

I dont care really for the value, only during a Death Match is the time I care about my ratio.
Otherwise, the teams effort comes first before the player.
Winning matters during ctf or inf, not your points.

In team games, i think that getting the Objective is more important than your K:D ratio. But in anything else, K:D ratio is the best.

Yes winning is important in CTF and INF, but taht doesnt mean i just run into huge firefights, i play it smart so i can die less, so i can support our team MORE.

Yes, but sometimes supporting your team means being a meatshield for an FFC. Then you get the worst of both worlds -- no flag to score with and a high death count. Of course, a good player will still have some kills, but having to stall approaching groups of enemies isn't the best way to boost one's stats, though it's for the good of the team.

I think anything above 1.3 or so K:D, is respectable.  It shows that you're most likely gonna take 1 or 2 people with you every time you respawn.  A defensive person is more likely to have higher.  "Flag Returns" also should be considered a valuable stat.  It shows that not only you can kill someone..but you can also kill the right someone at the right time.  :P
