A couple things:
1) The old forums are still up, but are not currently locked. I did this because I want people to be able to go into "edit" their old topics, so that they can copy information off the old forums and into threads on here, and not have to retype all of the formatting tags
2) These forums will get the forums.soldat.pl address once we're settled in a bit, and when we don't need the old ones any more.
3) Please refrain from posting in the old forums
Report any problems or bugs in this thread. If anyone has a hard time finding their activation e-mail, please check your spam filters.
Credit for everything pretty that you see needs to be attributed to:

I claim no credit for the new forums, except for hosting them ;)
More things to note:
- The Active Topics page is still in beta mode. Elephant hunter is still modifying it to work 100% right.
- The BB Code used in posts here is different than the old forums (not entirely, just some). The BB code used here is the standardized version used across all major bulletin board systems. A guide can be found at http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=57
- The stealing of other peoples' nicknames will not be tolerated. This will result in a permanent ban
- Spamming, as always, will not be tolerated at all. Just because these are new forums does not mean you will get any special chances
- your "Personalized Picture" is your avatar. This is set by clicking on the Profile button (look up) and clicking on Forum Profile Information
Below is the Q&A/FAQ from the old thread. The tense is wrong ("will" instead of "do") but it still has a lot of good information
Q&A:
Q: Will the maps section be more, um, organized? Ex. will there be a poly crap section, a so-so section, and a sexy map section?
A: We are trying to make improvements to how the mapping sections are handled, but no changes have been made or decided upon yet.
Q: I only hope no one takes my nickname.
A: Anyone who takes another person's nickname will severely regret doing so
Q: Gonna have some sort of user rating system in there?
A: May have both, either of none of: post count, forum karma
Q: Is the url going to be http://forums.soldat.pl/ ?
A: Yes. There will be a time (probably the first month) that these forums will have this address, and the new forums will have a temporary address. After that time, these forums will be gone and the new forums will have this address.
Q: Are the new forums going to be hosted on windows or linux?
A: Linux
Q: Will the bash pit be here?
A: No, bash pit will be gone. Anything worthwhile will be in the lounge.
Q: Will the forum mainpage be back?
A: Some day
Q: Will ranks be around?
A: Yep.
Q: Will the contents of these forums be archived somewhere?
A: Hopefully, though it may not be available right away
Q: Same signature/avatar rules?
A: Yes. These aren't forum-specific, they're just general courtesy rules to help people with slower connections, or those people who are only allowed to download a certain mount per month
Q: Same moderators?
A: Yes.
Q: What about banned people, will they still be banned?
A: No, everyone gets a fresh start unless they come back and do something stupid.
Q: Will forum names be unicode-capable?
A: I believe so.
Q: sweet.
A: Yes.
Q: Will the forum have attachments?
A: Yes, attachments are allowed on the new forums. I've got the server ready to handle a lot of attachments, that way they can stay hosted for a long time

A: Wait and see the new forums before complaining about anything. You guys do this with every new Soldat version before it even comes out. Just have some patience.

Yeah, they are new, but they still have a "Soldat Forums" feel to them. Are you saying you going to be getting rid of the old forums altogether or are the old forums still going to be at oldforums.soldat.pl (or whatever the adress was)?

the new forums will most likely be taken offline completely. Any valuable threads should be moved over by their original author some time in the next week or two

I thought I saw somebody mention that the old forums were going to be archived. It'd be nice to have them saved somewhere.

it will be a while before I can make the archiving utility for the old forums. Give me a couple weeks to worry about the new forums before I need to start dealing with that

Good job guys. I'm sorry to say that without a bashpit, lounge, or will to deal with anything but expected stupidity I'm probably going to end up dropping out of the forum scene altogether.

the forum software rocks anyway (haha).
It loads much faster, not just because of the new server, also because e.g. the forum index in this forum has 6,6KB and in the old one it was 63KB, which is almost as ten as much.

yep, that is one of the things I intend to try and have tweaked, though not for a bit. We have bigger things to worry about currently, most importantly just making sure everyone comes here and doesn't have any major issues

Yeah! Teh new forums! Although I'm not quite active on soldat anymore due to some music I'm working on, I'll try to watch these new forums closely.

Everything is looking good so far, I like profile options and smileys. Backround colors are a bit too light IMO opinion though. Took me forever to receive my activation email. Oh and about signatures, you're only allowed 300 charecter but that includes the BB code so you can't realy have 300 :-\

there is a section for the beta testers, I just haven't added everyone to it yet since people are just starting to register. How in the world am I supposed to add you the moment you register ;)
As for what Keron said about behavior, I think we've already left that behind. It appears as if everyone here feels more at home on these new forums, and they know that it'll be better for everyone if irrational behavior is a thing of the past

File uploading is already here. When you're posting, click the "Additional Options..." link below the message box. Very handy. :)

but still "Maximum attachment size allowed: 512 KB" :(
i'd suggest changing the top like 5 links too that aren't really forums and making them smaller...they take up too much space as it is now IMO.

The new forums look great! I hated the old search function, as you could only search one forum at a time, but the new one totally pwns it.
It'd be nice to get some different forum themes to choose from though.. :)

If you're speaking of the previous forum, it's not going to be there forever.
In fact I think it's locked now anyway, so that means you can't post there.
Although FLAB mentioned that there may be an archiving utility for the old forums so that we can keep the good mapping/mod/ect. topics around.

I was wondering about that myself. I looked everywhere and still couldn't find it. It might be a feature which hasn't been enabled or implemented yet.

Yeah, it might be disabled. But then it shouldn't show in the profile...

That's not necessarily true. For example, the display name feature (which allows you to change the name other people see you as) has been disabled, but the registration page still says it's available as an option after registering. This could follow the same idea. I'm sure we'll know more about it in the coming weeks once things settle down.

I noticed with the ranks, there's only one "Major". The rest are "Major(1)". Will this be fixed? Or will it be the first to achieve the rank that gets the pretty one (Xurich)?

There's actually quite a few Majors (http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?action=mlist;sort=posts;start=0) now. Major(1) is the rank underneath Major. It's a pun on Soldat adding a (1) to the name Major if there's more than one in a server. It's not an error or a bug, so there's no need to fix it.

Can I make a suggestion about the forum? Yeah it's a lot better then the old one, but the ranks (of how much someone's posted) is really confusing, and a bit random. I mean, soldier is higher than a major?
Well, I suggest the forum uses real army ranks, so it makes a bit more sense. I'm in army cadets, so I know all the ranks, from lowest to highest (you don't have to use all of them):
Private
NCOs:
Lance Corporal
Corporal
Sergeant
Staff Sergeant
Commisioned officers:
2nd Lieutenant
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Lieutenant-Colonel
Colonel
Brigadier
Major-General
Lieutentant-General
General
These are the Australian Army ranks, so they probably differ from the American system, but anyway here it is. ^^

If you were around Soldat back in 1.2 and 1.2.1 and all other versions before that, you'd know that the default player name used to be Soldier. In 1.3, it was changed to Major. Thus, Soldier is higher ranked than Major, which is higher ranked than Major(1).

Everyone in Soldat will always think of Major as a "noob" rank so even if they did change it, it really wouldnt ACTUALLY change anything
