God I love the first version. Downloaded it last year, still play it from time to time. The F2-F12 keys are really interesting in that version. They control waypoints and stuff. Experiment, but make sure to back up the waypoint files first.

Yes... It makes me sad. I thought "great! I've found what I looked for!"...
At least this one (http://www.metaftp.com/?t=searchresults&PageId=0&QStr=Soldat&OrderType=1&OrderDirect=1) works...
It would be nice if someone posts links again.
But you can find version 0.9.4c on Soldat homepage (download -> other).

Oh, and I don't agree that upgrades are useless. At least not all of them. For example some maps disappear in newer versions, like Storm and ctf_chernobyl (and when you use upgrades you still have them).

As for me it is 1.2.1 the best version, it was sufficient to correct a mistake and it was in order to best, yeah it is necessary to play 1.4.1,At the beginning I didn't like 1.4.1, now I already got used, and it is well.

I still remember the day when I downloaded and tried Soldat after a few weeks of its very first release.  It still surprises me that I've been playing Soldat for this long to experience all of it's changes and its community.  I'm probably one of its oldest players and I never even been active once in the community for more than 5 years. :o

those file upload sites suck.  All versions are archived at http://static.soldat.pl/downloads, I'll update as many of the links on the first post as I can.  I don't know if every single one is archived on static.soldat.pl.  If anyone has any of the missing ones, please e-mail them (as attachments) to admin@forums.soldat.pl, or post them as attachments to this thread (this would be better than e-mailing them to me)

I've only updated a couple of the links to be working right now.  Please attach versions to your post if you notice they are missing from http://static.soldat.pl/downloads

Please only upload the original ZIP files that were distributed.  If we can't find anyone who has the original, then I'll request that someone zips an old install or uploads their own homebrew zip.

As players, we receive the biggest credits for keeping the game alive by not just playing, but also giving suggestions as to improve the game. If there is no game, there cannot be any players. Likewise, if there are no players, there cannot be a game.

Therefore, do we really need more credit?

I always keep all of the versions of the programs and games I download. I then burn them to disk and store them if I ever need to rollback. There's also a few handy websites that do the same.

Well I'll definately see what these early versions offer.

I wasn't such a sf surfer at that time.
I only started to surf the forums after MRP(mikes realistic playgroumd) failed..

Hmm. I can't count, for how many years I've been playing Soldat. In my memory are two inconsistent facts.
I remember that started in about half of primary school. It makes 9 years of playing. Moreover, in my old notebooks, from about 2003-2004, are some Soldat fan... ergh... "arts". :P
On another hand - the oldest version I remember I played is 1.3.0. It makes only 7 years and end of primary school. It is impossible, because I'm sure I started a little bit more time ago. Or... maybe it was 1.2.0?

In compromise it makes about 8 years of playing, and I keep this version. It makes a looong history, loads of memories, of nice players, quarrels with neokids and noobs...

Thank you very much, everyone, for these nice moments. And have further fun ;)

PS
Sorry for my English ;P

Any idea what to do if Soldat.exe won't run for an older version of the game? "Soldat have stopped working. You may search online for a solution to the problem."

Hello,

I don't remember which version I started with, it was during my engineer degree, and it started on 1997.
A friend of mine and I use to play Liero on the campus' computers. Good game also, but 2 players on the same keyboard was totally messed up.
Liero on-line was not realesed, or at least we weren't aware of.

So my friend find out a similar game, 2D shooter with online capabilities. He didn't play much but I got totally addicted. I considered registering the game when at a time main features got available under a license, afterwards it got open again despite some extra but not mandatory for gameplay features.

Should start on 2002/3, 1.0.4b??? dunno, can't remember.

I spent longer hours playing in the past, now just play from time to time. I just has it installed on my old desktop, so just play when I come to visit my parents.

Great moments playing online, meeting some friends, or even training with the clan.

 :'( :'( :'( (so excited by memories)

So grateful for this! Just installed a load of old versions to find an old Soldat desktop icon that I have burned into my memory. I found it! It's so, um, iconic?

I have wanted to do pixel art of it on my sons Minecraft plot for a while now, and without this thread it probably wouldn't happen (I can't access the wiki) - so many thanks, FilesLikeABrick!

Of course during this process I had a play around on the many versions I installed. Just wow! I first installed Soldat in 2002 and it was glorious to revisit those old memories. The intro music gave me chills.

For some reason I can't get the intro to play in 1.7.1 which is a shame. I only moan because I care.

If any are interested then the plot is on mc-central.net join the creative hub and type /p h Stalkid (I will message in the shoutbox when it is done.)

Anyways, thanks for all the memories and to the community for keeping such a great game going for so long. Here's to another 15 years of this amazing game! <3
