Title: Soldat Lobby widget for Opera
Post by: Aquarius on June 27, 2006, 11:49:51 am
This Opera widget shows the list of Soldat servers. It has many options to filter the list and of course you can join a server by clicking its name.
You need Opera 9 browser (http://www.opera.com/) to install and use it.

Download it from here! (http://widgets.opera.com/widget/4451)

WARNING: because of a strange bug in Opera 9.0, server joining won't work if you have "soldat" protocol saved in Opera preferences. If you have "soldat" protocol already saved in preferences, go to Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs and delete it. After clicking a server name to join it a "Unknown protocol" window will appear, simply click "Yes" and do not check "do not show this dialog again" option!

AWESOME.
Great work Aquarius.

Edit: The flip button is buggy.
Sometimes it won't work, sometimes you need to doublick.. and last time I was stuck at the config pane and couldn't go back to the server list.

Pitty Opera sucks anus hairs, make a FireFox extension =\

My thoughts exactly; this is an excellent idea but poor choice of platform. FireFox FTW.

(+10 points for including [eC] server in the screenshot)

Well, if speed is what you want, then hands down Opera wins.

Aye I'm not sure what your problems are with opera? Could you be clearer on that Enesce and chrisgbk?

Sometimes it won't work, sometimes you need to doublick.. and last time I was stuck at the config pane and couldn't go back to the server list.
It's more general problem. Widgets don't catch onClick events if another window is selected. So you have to click the widget before you click the button, if the widget is not selected. Maybe they will change this behavior some day... and I don't know why you were stuck, it has never happened to me. But you can just reload the widget (F5) if it will happen again.

Looks and works great!!!

Not by the widget, it simply uses links with soldat protocol to run Soldat. I think it's possible to modify path used by soldat protocol in Windows registry, but I didn't try it.

Is it possible you could make a standalone?
The possibility is very small, don't expect it, sorry.

can you make a konfabulator version?
I don't know how to make konfabulator widgets. But if someone else wants to make it, feel free to use the code of my widget (but I doubt it's compatible with konfabulator).

I was wondering, could a feature that shows the servers ping be implemented? (or is it already there?)

I'm not sure, it would be hard... But in the next version I want to make an information about location of servers (country/continent) so you can filter out servers that are far away from your location.

Nice widget, good job.
As for pinging, I don't think JS has any built-in method that allows the scripter to do that (unless if the Opera widget system adds some extra functionality and methods). I guess that one0 way to do it would be to use Flash and ActionScript to ping a server, but that would basically need a complete rewrite of the widget in Flash (unless if only the ping part was a Flash object, I don't know much about Flash/ActionScript though, so I don't know if it's possible to pass parameters to flash via HTML).
Anyways, this is a great addition for Opera, looks and works good.

Excellent, ty.
btw, 'open source'-label is trendy but mozilla/firefox has a long way to go before it is in par with opera.. at least when it comes to speed and functions

Yes it is, either POST or GET (movie.swf?ip=127.0.0.1) :)
