Title: 1,000,000th Computer Help Question!!1!
Post by: a-4-year-old on April 04, 2007, 09:57:12 am
Since the lounge is the Mecca of all computer know-how, My computer is (almost) as good as it was the day I got it, except for a few things...

Other then the faulty **** hardware that the company (note: never buy from Ibuypower.com) gave me, this decided to pop up today (see attached)

So, heres what i know:
It was probably caused by me shutting it down incorrectly, (you see, when you select "shut down" in windows, it doesn't shut down, it restarts, but when you shut it down manually, pressing the power button or flipping the switch, everythings all wonderful)

I know yelling at it won't help

I don't know what program the error is refrencing

As soon as this is posted I'll find out if restarting helped.
Just get the same message when i start up.

I would suggest a 12-gauge....

But seriously, your best bet would be a new computer. Those sort of errors come from broken CPU/Motherboard's

I took apart a computer and managed to access the motherboard. You have no idea how much precision is needed to build a properly functioning motherboard, let alone the proccessor that have been embedded in it. Don't try taking apart a computer unless you have anti-static gloves or something anti-static.

the Case of all computers has a paintjob that deters static electricity, so when working on those things, I hold the case.

I won't take it apart, but i figured it would be a harddrive problem, figuring it is talking about relocating a dll

I was planning on a new computer for vista about a year after vista launched

Like I tell everyone with computer problems. Hit it with a hammer. If it still doesn't work... hit it harder.

No no no, you've got it all wrong. Kick the computer, THEN hit it with a hammer. Sledgehammer, if possible. If all you see is a mass of dump, contact the garbage man to come and "fix" it.

Here is the answer, everyone else is wrong:

http://it.slashdot.org/it/07/04/04/1256229.shtml

it is indeed a problem caused by your sound drivers in conflict with Microsoft's hasty patch for the very bad vulnerability going around.

If the article linked doesn't suggest anything, then you have no choice other than to wait for an official fix

edit: and so you know, that patch was released yesterday.  Your computer probably downloaded and installed it overnight since Microsoft released it as an urgent patch.

Is there any problem with kicking? Of course not.

Car not starting? Kick it.
Refrigerator not running? Kick it.
Nose not running? Kick it. (Might result in a nosebleed.)
Computer not working as you wanted it to? Kick it.

I was wrong about you, I thought you would have some shameless Linux advertizement, but instead you actually helped me! Now I'm off to turn off auto updating from microsoft! :D

You have to yell at it to get the attention of everyone around you, then attack.

Right. I'll keep that in mind the next time my laptop decides to crash. What if nobody's around?
