...Noob. A part of computing since 1980, used since the Vietnam war.

Do yourself a favour, turn the console off in Soldat. No more chat.

wow, I've never heard that one.  But I can say that I've been called a noob for using every single weaon at least once.  Apparently, every weapon (including nades) is cheap and noobish to someone.

Yea, instead of turning off all chat, you can type /mute <player name> or /mute <player slot #>

to get slot #'s press f1 then /.

It seems that when you get good with a certain weapon, you become a "noob". It should be noted that I think only n00bs (people who play like newbs even though they're not, unwilling to learn and change, i.e. flag campers who don't go after the EFC, people camping on Alpha in inf mode, people doing excessive ammounts of close-range M79 shots) seem to use the term "noob". It seems to be an all-purpose insult whenever you get killed to some people. As opposed to calling them something accurate (i.e., nade spammer, sprayer, camper), you call them "noob". I find that unimaginative, bland, and conforming.

Chakra, I would turn off the console except sometimes I need to know where the EFC is going, even if my teammates only say it about half the time. And don't forget the hilarious conversations that occur sometimes.

Nice idea Zamorak, I'll do that next time someone types something every time they kill someone.

from wikipedia
Quote
Some forums have banned some of the more common spelling variations ("newb", "knob" , "nub", "noob", "no0b", "n00b", "nib", "nibblins", "Frodo Nibblins","fruity noob", "newblet(s)", "nub sauce", "nubz", "nubcakes", "nublich", "nubzorz", "Niblit", "nob", "nab", "naab", and "nublets") in an attempt to reduce flame wars.

Wow never knew there was that many!

Quote
This has, of course, led to more variations, such as "s00b", "ch00b", "fr00b" and "gl00b". It has also led to numerous character-swap versions such as "n()()b" and "n|_|b", both of which are used to bypass a swear filter.

Just when you thought it would end!

I really cant stand them either. Every god damned server I go to I  get called

"stupid bitch"
"Barretard"
"Nub"
"Noob"
"Nob"
Or even "Deagle sprayer" (wait... Is that even possible??!)

atleast once. Its so very, very annoying. >:(

Its the great tragedy of their irony and ignorance that gets me annoyed, as the ones that shout "noob", "runner", "sprayer" etc are normally the ones that truly don’t have much skill.

I only ever call someone a noob if they are the sort of people that say "pwned", "noob" etc every time they kill someone as if the fact that they killed someone just once (and often quite cheaply) means that they totaly own them. When I do call those sort of people noobs after killing them, I feel good as I've shoved them into place but then I feel all dirty for going down to their level.

Then theres also the case of the player is new or at least acting like it, then I might say noobie.

I call people noobs most of the time to piss them off :D
Title: Re: "Noob" -Getting out of hand?

Some people call other players noobs sometimes because they actually are noobs. They go around, holding the mouse button, and spray their shit everywhere without aiming. They randomly lob grenades at groups of teammates because of one enemy in the middle of them. Then, there's the people who are so fed-up with dieing and too compeditive that they get angry when an enemy kills them. They find the flaw in their non-perfect kill. That would include medic pack healing, spraying, grenade lobbing, camping, and the like. Come to think about it, there really is no perfect kill.

well, i can't complain about noob healing because i use a barret so that nobody can steal my kills!  Secondly, it is annoying if you're attacked by a machine gun and instantly eat up all the available health packs of one area.  Someone should make a suggestion stating that you can only pick up another health box 5 seconds after the previous one has been taken.

lol

I find the term 'n00b' used by those who are in second place or lower, talking to someone above them.
In mine eye, there is no such thing as a n00b. If someone camps I use steyr to bink em, if they are getting close shots with m79 I stay away and own with ruger. IOW, the only noob is the one saying it.

"Noob"  Because of it's over usage I don't even think of it as, "A newbie (also spelled noob, newb, or n00b in the leetspeak of internet culture) is a to a particular field, the term being commonly used on the internet, where it might refer to new users of a game, a newsgroup, the World Wide Web itself, or an operating system," but rather as a common article such as "the"  ::).

Well, ever since I started playing modern games(soldat included) last year people I noticed people calling each other noobs.
I have noticed a increase in use in soldat though. But even in halo 2 on xbl people are always calling eachother noobs for the same reason in soldat.

Really people should just concentrate on the game and focus on their actions.

In every game that has an online element, there will always be hackers, legends, and people who call other people noobs.

Now maybe the reason noob calling is increasing is that, more people are capping, camping, and healing more often? And there are more people who think this is nooby? :|

I had a game once, where a guy named 'hi' joined just before i capped. He immediately called me 'nub xrayz'. Then he got the flag and got killed. When i got the flag he said 'my cap'. I dont ever give the flag to someone else because its their fault they got killed. So i capped, and 'n00b'. Then he started rambling on about how crap Australia was at sports and how good NZ was, blah blah blah blah sux blah blah. This idiot had every single person telling him to just shut the fuz up.

I think that if you think about calling someone a noob, think of something else. calling people noobs so common that i dont think people give a shiz if they get called a noob. Say something else goddamn it.

Man, i hate those people who call you a noob because you repeatedly kill them with the same gun (it's generally the M79, but sometimes i have been called noob for using the Ruger, too). So when you switch guns and p00n them some more, they still complain and call you a noob! Geh!

maybe server owners should put a n00b variation slay script so people don't use it as much ^_^

like fractured has a n00b/nab/nub/noob autoslay script, but you can still use no0b or n0ob ^_^

chibi put a script on some of the fractured servers that automatically kills anyone who says noob or kurwa (due to polish invasion ~_^)

It means 'f**k'. Notice how they use it everytime they die, lose, or the enemy caps. I've heard it used to or does mean 'b**ch' too.

If somebody starts insulting and whining about what they don't like I tell them to exit the game. Stop playing it. If you don't like it, why do you annoy yourself and others. Just exit. It's that simple.

I'll make a spectacle of them, making it my goal to kill them with every weapon in the game.

"Sorry, I thought you'd have a chance against the AK. Didn't mean to kill you again. Must be another noob gun. I'll  try another...
Hmm... I got you with all the primaries and secondaries. I guess they're all noob guns then? I'm confused. What should I do to kill you but be less of a noob about killing you? Please let me know! Thanks! :) "

Really, people like that are annoying, but I think any of the other whiny comments -- "lagger," "hit," "wtf," etc. -- are just as bad. You were beaten. You're not as "leet" as you think you are. Accept it.

Just try sometimes ignore ppl like that : "Zomg u fucking nab healer" "Die u fucken polak" "OMG U NAB FLAG THROWER" ro whatever. Just try to imagine that some ppl have been born by an alien and arent worth of your attention. kthxbb close the topic pls.

I guess the whiner would stay away from medpacks if he got shot? I know if I get shot badly, I try to find a medpack, because it's the SMART thing to do.

In real life though, would you really keep hunting someone with two GSW's in your chest? I sure as hell wouldn't.

what i hate is when people call flag campers (aka defenders) noobs.  You'd be surprised how hard it is to take three people down with a barret, two nades, and a knife/socom.  Barreting deserves to be one hit kill, it requires aim more than any other weapon besides maybe the ruger, and we people call me a camping noob, its generally becuase they and a couple people came at me and i killed them all.  I'm playing my part in the team by keeping the flag in the base, and racking up kills (often more than most people) while I'm at it.  This requires much more skill than a noob could do.

If you get called a noob, i beleive that atleast 70% of the time it would be because you keep owning them and they cant beat you, which frustrates them and alot of the time leads to them accusing you unfairly of hacking, even if your honestly not.

I disagree. If you're flag camping, then you're basically just putting yourself in a position where you can pick off the enemy the moment he touches the flag. That's very simple to do; any idiot can hide and shoot an instant-kill bullet at someone that he can't avoid. Camping is part of the game, sure, but to say that it's a skill exactly? No. Any new player can camp well; there's nothing that really separates "good" flag campers from "bad" flag campers.

Noob's as much out of hand as it ever was. The word is misused and misunderstood. Frankly, it's a stupid word, that should just sieze to exist, along with the people screaming it out loud.

However, your statement makes a little sence. You can't do anything without being called a [insert word, that's pointing back at your lates action, here]-noob. However, the word 'noob' is not the problem. The general idea of ingame right/wrong is.
