Title: When player leaves, s/he dies instead of dissapearing
Post by: jrgp on April 17, 2007, 04:14:19 pm
Currently, whenever a player leaves an online game, s/he just disappears.

I think it would be interesting if, maybe, when someone leaves a game, the player automatically executes /mercy and falls dead, but not actually add a death and lower the KD for that person.

Also, I think this should be a tern-off-able client side option.

So, what do you think?

You're pretty much basing it on the fact that players are often too disappointed after failing to kill a player before s/he leaves. It's pretty funny, since that it is just the player's luck.

the only problem is the flag, when you leave the server and you had the flag, it's automatically returned

Depending on the 40-second mass-respawn rule, it could take either half a minute, a few seconds, or immediatedly auto-returned the flag.

I don't like this, you are punishing their scores just for leaving the game?

boy, all these dancing avatars are lame.... but anyway, this idea is all right. It'd be better for ctf, but in dm and tm, i think its funny when people disappear right before you kill them. If they died, it would just confuse whoever's shooting at them "why didn't i get a point for that kill?" As it is, its an in your face way to leave the game. Wait for someone to start shooting at you, leave, and then laugh as you frustrate them! Even better, do a good bit of damage to them, then leave.

That seems to be a good point.

What? No, thats the exact opposite of what I am saying.

I'm saying, when you leave, the server just has your body let go of anything it's holding, including the flag, and drop dead.
Yeah, the flag might as well be auto returned when the Soldat falls dead too.

Hmmm. While I like the idea I also see that it would be confusing to see my target die before I shot them up.

But then, I would realise that they had signed out and get over it. So I support.
It wont affect score at all The Philanthropist

BTW, It shouldn't be a client side, it should be server side. Stuff like this just isn't client side (unless it is just an animation of a player dying then it has to be server-side because the bodies have to have locations on the server. Also because bodies effect bullets and create blood sprays which also need locations on the server).

hey, what about not dieing, but teleporting out, or being "beamed up", out of the game? with a nice animation?

Hmm, maybe he^ is being an ass, eh?

On topic, I think this idea is great. If it makes it that small bit more realistic, I think we should go for it. As long as it dosn't delay the release of Soldat 1.4 for tooo long.
