NOTE: Not a discussion on the balance itself, just a poll on whether or not people prefer 1.2.1 weapons over the current balance (that being 1.5b)
I prefer 1.2.1 over the current beta balance myself.
-
Defenately 1.2.1
-
not after all this time has been spent on the new balance.
-
1.2.1 but with delay on the barrett!
-
Yes, I fully agree with the 1.2.1 balanced weapons. With the new hold-3-seconds-to-shoot Barret and LAW it can get a tad annoying when trying to track soldats in your line of sight. Yes, patch 1.3.1's weapon system prevented this camping rampage from occuring (and making it harder for less skilled players to aim...) and to me, I lost my love for both the LAW and Barret because of this. I don't prefer to camp, but when you're up against an m79 user at point blank and you're stuck there with your Barret holding down your mouse, he has all the opportunity to blast you into oblivion.
I know many will agree on the new balance in part because it goes against campers, amongst other various aspects of this which tend to rush the chances the enemy soldats have to survive in the field, but I have to say that Soldat, at least to me, has always been seen as a fast-paced game where strategy is pretty much moot, unless of course you are in a clan-match of sorts or a teammatch in which you want uniformity in the players, but that is besides the point really.
Otherwise, I have to say that I would stick for 1.2.1 only for the soul purpose of bringing back the fast-paced frag war that was by far my favorite Soldat.
On the other hand, there could be an easy fix for this (if there is already, just ignore me, i'm rambling... :-X) if you could change the weapon balance of your liking per server or per game...giving the community of players their chance to engage in whatever fast-paced combat they desired. I think this idea was already implemented though...not entirely sure...can anyone give me an answer on this? Thanks.
*end rant*

These poll options are a bit stacked.... :P
I like the new beta balance, and see no reason to change back to an old balance out of nostalgia.
-
Both are flawed. I prefer 1.1.5 :o
-
What are the main differences between the two weapon balance versions?
I never really understand why people hate the weapon balance for 1.3.1.
I think they're fine.
-
1.3.1 balance is the closest thing to perfection.

Touche, I like the 1.3.1 weps.

Both the 1.2.1 and 1.3.1 weapons are enjoyable, but in terms of balance, I think that the current version is a bit better. I've seen several people say that even if 1.2.1 was unbalanced, it was just more fun, due to the quick pace and simplicity of it (though I don't find delay or bink to be very complicated myself). It's been a long time since I've played with the 1.2.1 balance, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but one thing that jumps to mind is the unceasing horde of barreters who, if skilled enough, were nearly unstoppable. Of course, anybody who is very skilled with a weapon should be difficult to overcome, but in 1.2.1, with certain weapons, it was nearly impossible to win unless you forced yourself to use the same weapon as your opponent (and happened to be better with it).
I would like to utilize my own skill in keeping somebody from killing me rather than relying on the off chance that he or she will miss his or her shot, and the 1.3.1 balance provides that ability more than 1.2.1 did. As Mancer said, the 1.3.1 balance is the closest thing that we've had to perfection thus far, and hopefully the 1.4 balance can improve upon that even further.

since soldat is aimed for people who wanna relieve much of the stress, the weapons should be easy to use. weapons in 1.2.1 were easy to use. Now soldat weapons are becoming harder and harder to use. 1.2.1 was funniest to me
-
Ahh, the topic about the "new weapon balance in 1.3.1" should be dug up again. It was full of people saying that the new balance is ruining Soldat's gameplay :).
As for my opinion, I got used to 1.3.1 but I still think weak weapons should be made stronger instead of strong weapons made weaker.
1.2.1 was a very good balance too, except for the Barrett and Desert Eagles.
Grtz, DePhille

2 words: Knife, Law.
1.2.1 ftw!
If I remember correctly, 1.2.1 had much less hit reg problems/overall bugs then 1.3 or 1.3.1
-
1.2.1 was better than these new balances.
-
Both are flawed. I prefer 1.1.5 :o
heh, agree
-
i already did... 23 to 22 for 1.2.1
-
That's the most unclear result, which I've ever seen in a forum poll xD
-
i think ctf is a lot about strategy in soldat, as ctf is in every game that features it. this id the only mode i play for now, and i enjoy it. the idea of an instant-firing barret seems highly unfair to me, but here ill say the same thing as i do about our presidents: everyone always makes fun of the president, and they make fun of the next one too. no one's ever gonna be happy, or at least nto everyone will be, with the current situation.
-
i consider 1.3.1 well-balanced. faster gameplay is fine, but imho the game was dominated too easily by using the barret and the LAW.
though having slightly lost some pace soldat 1.3.1 evens the weapon specs really well.
-
How is it unclear, it clearly shows that 1.2.1 weapon balance was best based on the poll result.
Currently as of this post:
Yes, It was the best balance! 29 (52.7%)
No, I prefer the slower gameplay. 26 (47.3%)
Anyway I prefer 1.3.1 it's better IMO.

Defenately 1.2.1
+delay barrett longer m79 reload.
