Title: New Soldat In-Game Music!
Post by: Krypt_ on May 15, 2007, 11:27:34 pm
I know this is a very small opinion of mine, and as thus can be overlooked, but since I've been playing (ver. 1.0+ or so) I've always denied myself my mp3 folder rights (being registered) and stuck with the classics like Gore and Necromance.

I'm not saying that this is worth doing. Most players these days listen to WinAmp or whatever else they can to escape the oh-so-original tunes provided to them in-game.

I simply am asking that new soundbytes be created for the default gamer. Anything catchy and kickass that will make me game on my comp for hours on end with that "defaultness" buzzing in my head. In my opinion, soundtracks for movies make the movies what they are...so why shouldn't the in-game music make/or improve soldat so people hear the music and say "ohh yea! Soldat!"

Again, something simple and basic. (Pardon me if it's been suggested before, on a search i found zilch  :-\) Maybe MM could cook us up some catchy beats for a future version?

Hey, this is a good idea. Its like me in love with the Command & Conquer soundtrack and I feel like "YEAH! RED ALERT 2!".

Support.

I don't listen to music while playing, and I'd rather see effort spent on bug fixes than on new music.  If you're all registered already, how hard can it be to find music you enjoy?

F12!

The music called Battle, i think, come back! It was in one of the oldest versions of soldat and it was PURE (don't mistake for puree) PWNAGE!

Lol! Nice choice.
Personally I too believe that music can make a game, but with soldat not so much. Find some music that makes you feel "SOLDAT" and play that is my answer.

However, this would be nice to unregged players >.^

Yeah that's a great idea *f12s*.

I'm regged and I only ever listen to the defaults. Gore and Necromancide ftw!

Use these, just replace the original files.

[Edit] And a tip: Find the Unreal Tournament .it tracks. Just awesome!

Wow... and that's how you get banned :]  Your supposed to be registered to use the in-game Mp3 player..

y0da, I like the idea. But what I'm getting at is that I don't want to replace the original files, but rather expand on what is already there and and add more to immerse the selected player even more within the "sounds of Soldat" (im calling it that from now on)

The problem I see with this is that if this feature were enabled it would most likely be for registered users: given to them along with the "mp3 player list" option. I propose that if this were implemented that it be kept for unregged users as well and included in both versions.

The reason being that by having the default tunes, you can set the stage for the player and create an effect that keeps them coming back for more + it also supports the maps and gives more of a feel for what is going on in-game rather than your WinAmp blasting Britney Spears while you see heads fly. (@ all you Britney fans...my apologies)

"sounds of Soldat" = fits various maps + puts you into a zone of adrenaline + immerses you into the world designed to emulate the late 1940's during WW2 ---> Vietnam jungle/combat styled theatres. (not sure if those time frames are correct)

A vietnam vet came to my class today (would you believe it?) and told us that he still remembers the sounds of the Shinooks flying overhead as he manned his m60 on ambush. He voiced his opinion that the sounds of the time: "just hearing those shinooks and hueys flying overhead after my 1 tour I served, I returned to 'the world' and heard a helicopter almost 1 week later. The sound brought me back to the time, and also scared me shitless. I will never, so long as I'm alive, forget that sound...it is ingrained in my brain now. I still remember losing my men so long ago..."

He continued on but it really impacted me that such sounds really do have an impact on us as a people, why not bring that same effect to the virtual world through Soldat?

<end rant>

Yeah but just make sure the music fits Soldat like umm.. doesn't affect your gameplay in a negative way.

I like this idea, but I really prefer the music I listen to in Windows Media Player while playing soldat. I think fixing the weapon balance and bugs is more important, but if the devs have time, i think creating a new song or two would be a good idea.

This is a GREAT idea.  Could a Trance/Techno Mix/Remix be included? I really enjoy killing the Trance/Techno, it keeps me on my toes.  Keeps my brain working and my eyes going.  Though, a new, 'Dark' themed song would be nice, and maybe another 'Killer' themed track.  Those would be awesome... =)

i support this, cause the classics are good but we do indeed need more music that in the end will make you shout soldats glory on rooftops (maybe)

and yea i miss the very old song Battle

At least Gore, Bloody Soil or Necromancide are not made by MM. They are made by music group called BSG.

But he has good taste in music. xD

Also, my mp3 ingame doesn't work either, even though I'm registered so I'm stuck listening to Gore, Bloody Soil, Necromancide....which isn't that bad but they get old after a while.

I can barely play with no other applications on...I tried playing with WMP and it lowered my FPS by a lot and lagged when I played, I also downloaded Winamp thinking it would be different but no, I guess it's just my crappy comp... :(

I'm registered ad I never use the in-game mp3 player. I just use winamp with hotkeys.
But for new music I don't see this happening for the next version...

I got in contact lately with Marshall Anderson (original creator of Soldat music), maybe he can do something more in the future.

In the meantime here is battle.it (use modplug tracker), posted for sentimental reasons. It was in Soldat before Gore came in.

And mp3's don't work for you cause the player works with M3U playlists not mp3 files!

The soundtracks for soldat are really intense.

And might the "Save Me" track from UT 2000 fit in?

To anyone, who doesn't know, what it sounds like, it's some pretty intense techno.

And Michal...I have a feeling "Gore" is a version of "Razorback" without the drums. It's another soundtrack from UT 2k.

Cheers Michal for the semi-new tune. It goes great with the gameplay! Please try and stay in contact with Marshall, I'm sure he wouldn't mind coming up with various new songs for us soldat-nerds to enjoy! :D
