Title: /settaunt
Post by: DePhille on May 20, 2007, 11:04:56 am
Hi,

I was thinking of a /settaunt command. It should allow you to change your taunts in-game. This could be handy on clanwars when playing on a specific map.
You could use /settaunt_1 EFC LOW! to set the first line in the active taunts file to the specified taunt. Another idea would be /settaunt_a EFC LOW! which will set the taunt for key 'a' to a specified line.

Other sugestions:
/loadtaunts taunts7 -> Loads taunts from file taunts7.txt in the Soldat folder.
/savetaunts taunts7 -> Saves the current taunts in taunts7.txt in the Soldat folder.

this is plain brilliant... DePhille, you're a genious.

Thats what we need to improve Soldat. Lots of little but important things like this
I think that it should be maping by the keys, not the lines. Would be a little confusing if you had to count those lines and numbers

Nice idea...But being the negative creep that I am I can't stop thinking of the abuse it'll create. Think of all the personalised hate/love messages you can launch with it.. /settaunt_a Toumaz j00 g0t pwnt! ... brilliant! Alt+a,alt+a,alt+a....ad infinitum.. Handy for everything else though. Thumbs up !

I was about to suggest those myself.
Id really need this since avarax's hexer stuff needs all that spells to type, and taunts would be nice to have, but I dont want to discard my old taunts.ini
And Im too fat to move it manually.

This mean that you can have several diffrent taunts to switch between on one key?

Title: Re: /settaunt
Post by: DePhille on May 21, 2007, 02:14:15 pm
Thanks for the nice comments and support :).

It'd be very handy for clanwars. For equinox you could add "EFC camping in the salad burger" (the salad burger is the center block with the horizontal way, looks like a salad burger :) ) and so on. Also, Avarax's hexer mod is indeed also a great example for the use of this command.

n2j3: I have to agree, there will be abuse ofcourse. But I think the abuse will be less than the gain, if you catch my drift. Also, I thought there were spam preventions. There was this period where everyone was using ASCII logos with taunts which would spam 4 lines of text. I think anti-spam system was added. If not, I'll leave it to someone else to suggest :).

Possibly. You could, theoretically, "/settaunt_L /loadtaunt taunt7" to switch taunt sets on the fly.

This is a really good idea DePhille.  I support this.  Also you should create a poll to see who supports this.
Title: Re: /settaunt
Post by: DePhille on May 21, 2007, 03:19:35 pm
Well, the poll is a good idea but I think the five stars combined with the amount of posts this topic has already makes it pretty clear. I wonder if it's going to be implemented in 1.4.1 or if we have to wait until the version after that. Or even if it'll get implemented at all. We'd need some more support from the beta-testers and the like.

Post by: ramirez on May 25, 2007, 06:29:36 am
Good idea, but I'd rather have it as "/settaunt a EFC LOW!" (that is /settaunt # taunt)
Why should the taunt key be part of the command name? :P
Title: Re: /settaunt
Post by: DePhille on May 26, 2007, 03:43:14 am
Well, I think that's easier for Michal to program.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me if the key's in the command or not, but if Michal wants to implement "/settaunt # taunt" instead of "/settaunt# taunt" or "/settaunt_# taunt" then it'd be better, indeed.

Post by: Clawbug on May 26, 2007, 07:55:46 am
I can not understand the idea behind this. :/ At least not for the /settaunt. I have no reason to set my taunts ingame. ;_;

/loadtaunts is kinda unuseful imo. I see no reason to have many taunt files really, and setting taunts ingame sounds stupid for me, I think /savetaunts is stupid aswell.

I still wish this was implemented, maybe someone finds this useful. :o

So I support. ;o
Title: Re: /settaunt
Post by: DePhille on May 27, 2007, 05:48:56 am
Well the idea is basically the ability to change your taunts in-game, as you metioned already.

/settaunt # TAUNT
THis one sets the taunt for key # to TAUNT. However, it's in the memory, and not saved in the taunts.txt file. If you'd wish to save it in the tautns.txt file, you'd have to use /savetaunts tauntfile, where tauntfile is the filename of the taunt.

/loadtaunts tauntfile
This loads the taunts from tauntfile. This could be very handy to switch taunts. You could tie ALT+A  to /loadtaunts taunts2. If you press ALT+A, Soldat will load the taunts from taunts2.txt . In taunts2.txt, you could tie ALT+A to /loadtaunts taunts3. Then again, in taunts3.txt you make a referance to taunts4.txt and when at the last file, make a reference back to the first file. This would enable you to browse trough different taunts in-game. For example, you could set up taunts for specific maps.

The goal is, as mentioned above, to be able to use specific taunts for certain maps. You could enter some positions where the EFC (Enemy Flag Carrier) is camping, so your teammates know where to find him. In Voland, you could add a line "EFC Camping on roof" for example, which can't be used in let's say ctf_Death2. Also, since the popularity boost of Avarax's Hexer mod, you could simply add /ofs by typing /settaunt a /ofs.
I agree that this function is mainly useful for those playing clanwars or heavily addicted to Avarax's Hexer mod, but I don't think this requires too much work to implement, and it's a nice add-on.

As far as I know, this suggestion made it into the beta-testing forums.
However, I'm not sure since I'm not a beta-tester or don't have moderator access to the betatesting forums.
Thanks for all the support, keep posting new uses or tricks for this command if you find any ;).

Instead of making rotating taunt files you could do it an easier way. You could set for instance ALT+L to load the same file in every taunt file you have. That taunt file would be to load the taunts you want, you can set ALT+1 for one map, ALT+2 for another map, etc..
So let's say you have a taunt file for the map Voland in ALT+1 and Death2 in ALT+2, all you do to load it is pressing ALT+L ALT+1, or ALT+L ALT+2..

Well i guess it's not easy to explain but it would be very easy to use :)

Would be very nice if you need to make/change your taunts to suit you and test it without restarting Soldat.

But what I'd like even more is the "load taunts" command. I have to keep several different profiles with setups for MMod, Last Stand, and other game modes, which is quite annoying. Loading other taunts from ingame would make my (and probably others') life so much easier.

Big, fat and shiny F12
