Had this problem too...it's that those windows are spawning off-screen. I think I reinstalled Polyworks to fix.I am afraid it's not possible. None of the windows are stretchable/resizeable in PW (could be implemented in the next update).
Anna, Polyworks is such an amazing program that if you were selling it I would buy it no question! I just got this version...everything is 10x better than the standard map editor, but one thing that bugs me is the scenery window. First, is there any way to make the BMP filename list longer (vertically)? Or, just bigger altogether.

i cant get the scenery window to open i checked, the file said true for the show thing and it doesnt exist.

p_vol: The volume that the polys take up. Tis may be difficult to calculate, due to overlapping polys :\(p_count*1000)/p_vol
p_count: Number of polygons in the map.both of those features are already implemented. Typing while the scenery list is in focus will let you find sceneries that start with those letters. To see the list of scenery which are currently in use, click the arrow in the corner of the scenery window and click 'Load Scenery' (this will change in the next version though).

I had one small suggestion for you Ania. I'd like to be able to resize/move the mapmaker window using my mouse, so i can tailor it to suit my needs. I wonder if that's possible. As of now i can only choose to make it fullscreen or half size centered. :P

When I see changes in Polyworks, all automatizations.. autolights, in future probably autotexture etc.. I think: 'what about all great mapmakers, when any unexperienced newb will make beautiful maps with that tool' .

hm, whenever i try to apply the lights nothing happens except that the "show lights" box becomes deactivated so the light sources dissapear. i applied various depths but it doesnt work
It seems only english versions of Windows will work fine with this new version. My ini files are being written with french values now and that is most likely why PW doesn't recognizes them. My current fix is to set the ini files as "read only" but that sucks. :>Same problem with german Windows :(
I'm using russian version of windows and don't get this kinds of problems...
New scenery list is better then old one, but it still needs some improovments. It's too narrow to show full names of sceneries. Also it's too long and always go off screen limits...
And another bug: Error occurs if you try to refresh scenery list and then try to clear unused sceneries...

I have the same problem as states above, except I didnt change any options except my soldat directory, fresh install of PolyWorks ;)
I have a problem.. The scenerys are green and bit of invisible, and when i go to play the map, they are there green, too. How to fix it? When i installed it, these were normal, now they aren't.. Help?

Does anyone have just 1.4.0? I can't get 1.4.0.5 to work, I get a bad filename or number error, and it doesn't happen my my older version.

It sounds like some of you need to read the FAQ. I'll try to answer all your questions anyway.
@people getting a bad file name or number error or a path not found error: Try changing the Dir entry in the Preferences section in polyworks.ini to your Soldat directory. If you extracted PW to your desktop, try extracting it to a different location.

2. My scenery window is not displaying any scenery, even when I click "reload scenery list". When I open a map I have previously made, the scenery of that map will appear in the list but again, I cannot reload the scenery and when I try and use any currently on the list I get an error: "Error clicking scenery. Element not found". I've checked all my folders and everything looks to be where it should be, but it still does not work.
Can you change the size of coliders?

Ok, To fix your problem, open your polyworks folder. In it there should be a file named polyworks.ini. You want to open this with wordpad, and the first thing you should see is this:Code: [Select][Preferences]
Dir=(this should show your soldat directory)
If the Dir entry is not the location of your soldat folder, you must change it to be that. (Default: C:\Soldat)
If that doesn't work, you should try re-installing in different places, and make sure you haven't installed it onto the desktop.
i installed polyworks on my school library computer...heres what happens:
i start the app...i only get a black box with grey bottom and top bars and error message "bad file or number"...i click ok...then i get something like "object variable not set or with block....blah blah"....that message doesnt go away even by holding alt+f4....only ctrl+alt+del and end process can quit the app....whats wrong....i would like to map during school breaks and/or after school since i have nothing else to do around here =P

@Kinky noob: Make sure your colour setting is either 16-bit or 32-bit (control panel -> display -> settings tab).
@numgun: I think that happens if you try to undo after doing clear unused scenery. I should probably clear the undo history after that function is used to make sure it doesn't crash.
When I'm mapping I save every few minutes and also make backup copies of my map so I end up having several versions at different stages of completion. Even I don't trust my own program ;)
@mortal_soldier: Try Window -> Workspace -> Reset Window Locations.

@Windows Vista users: If you're getting an error that says one of the components is missing or invalid, you can try registering it like this:
Make sure you have administrative rights.
Go to C:windowssystem32, right click cmd.exe, and click "Run As Administrator."
Type in regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx (or whatever the name of the files is).
edit: With version 1.4.0.16, if you get the error that says:QuoteDirect3D initialization failed

do the above procedure with the dx8vb.dll file (search for and download it if it doesn't exist on your computer).

The Display panel went missing, and I can't find it...
It's kind of stupid, but I'm serious about this. The Display panel is G-O-N-E GONE.

Found a bug: When I try to open the newest version of PolyWorks, I get an error message that says, "Error Loading; Error Setting Directories; Bad File Name or Number."Â Meanwhile, all that loads is a black background with green borders and sparse text on the bottom, the entire program doesn't respond to anything and cannot be closed except by using the Task Manager.
Coincidentally, I only downloaded the new version because 1.4.0.10 freaked out whenever I attempted to open a particular map of mine.
I think this is because I forgot to clear my settings from the polyworks.ini before I uploaded it ::)
You can try redownloading it (make sure it's not cached) or change the first line in the ini to your Soldat directory and clear the next two lines.

Thanks, that worked. However, my original problem is still there. When I try to open this map (http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=652.0), I get the error "Error rendering in Direct3D," and under that error is either "D3DERR_INVALID CALL" or "Unknown."

I have a problem with a map. Perhaps somebody can help me.your computer can't host maps too well, it has to do with your router/firewall.

The problem is: Wen the map was play on a server You can connect it an you can see the map. But in few seconds you will be disconnect from the server with the advice: "You have the wrong card version". But it is the right.
The next problem is that the Card is bigger than she should be.
I think the problem had something to do that I have in a older version make to many collision points. I have remove the points but wen I play the card all the point was in the map. So I have move the Horse along left from the points. Then I can play it on the Computer with out the collisions points but now the map was so big and unplayable on the server.
Please help - I don't want make the map new. It was very much work.

I've got the exact same problem. Tried getting the latest directx, and it still doesn't work. And, I already know I'm not missing any of the .dll or .ocx files.
Bummer, I really wanted to try mapping again.

In theory it would let you sketch a map so you can create some ideas then align the polygons to your sketch. Unfortunately, there isn't much options for the sketch tool to make it useful, and it crashes when used after a few seconds. Try to avoid using it, as it's better and safer to sketch and load a compatible image file from some outside paint program.
