Title: The Map Scrapyard
Post by: Rambo_6 on August 28, 2006, 12:39:15 pm
This is a thread where you can post all of your failed maps, or maps that you couldn't/didn't want to finish.

By posting them here, you agree to let anyone take and modify it, and possibly release the map if it's fit for release.

I'll add your map to this post when it is posted  ;)

Some rules:

-Don't post your map if it was made in 5 seconds, or if there is no possible way it can be salvaged at all.
-Don't post other people's maps for them.
-Please post all scenery/textures used with the map file.
-Make sure to include a screenshot of the map.
-Feel free to take any of these maps and give them a facelift.
-The map can be incomplete. It should have taken more than 5 minutes though.
-Please give credit to the original map maker if you decide to post the modified version. ;)

The maps:

Nice topic idea. Now I can post all my cr4p maps which ph41l3d m1s3r4bly. :P

ctf_Dread looks pretty cool, actually. Seems like it could have Kampf-like, arguable gameplay.
ctf_Fodder = M79 <3 And what's up with ctf_Badland? :P It really is a bad land!

Awesome idea! Dread looks really awesome. I would love to play that one sometime.
I remember playing Zahn on a public server some time ago. It was quite a barretfest at that time. :P

I think i might steal zahn and do something like that I think the middle house would be good for stratiic gameplay @_@

Title: Re: The Map Scrapyard

Not right now, no. Skool just started so I myself have no time to submit my junk. :P Don't think the Scrapyard is a bad idea, tho'; I've never seen such a thread before, and I think it could be fairly popular given some time for development. :)

As long as most of the submitted maps have some sort of quality that makes them fixable.

I have a few more maps, i'll post them when i get the chance.

Maybe I can complete Jungleshrine :) All it really needs is a ton more scenery, anyways. Linky, Avarax!

Title: Re: The Map Scrapyard
Post by: Keron Cyst on October 02, 2006, 06:59:53 pm
Okay, I got Jungleshrine. Thanks. (knowing me, though, I probably won't release a finished version until next year xD)

@Boxo: I can't seem to find the problem either. ctf_Zahn still busts PW even after deletion of all the waypoints and recompiling. :-\ Perhaps I'll look more into it later.

EDIT Okay... somehow, deleting all the waypoints, all the spawn points, and almost all the scenery finally allowed ctf_Zahn to be PW-compatible. :P Do you think you can work with that, Boxo, or should I experiment a bit more?

EDIT #2 Found the problem. Here, PW-compatible ctf_Zahn (http://h1.ripway.com/Keron%20Cyst/ctf_Zahn.PMS); had to scrap some bad scenery, and all the waypoints except two (okay, that action was on my own, but just because they were t3h suck ;D). The map's overall a bit small IMO, but otherwise good. Nice scenery manipulation.

Triple-post, you mean. And FYI, if no one posts, no one cares. A thread will never be marked read unless use the Mark as Read function on this section.

There is a (http://forums.soldat.pl/Themes/Soldat/images/english/modify.gif) button in the top-right of your posts; use that instead of multi-posting ;)

Here is a very barebones map in not even a prototype stage. It's called "Beachhead" and was supposed to be a DM map styled like Lagrange but with an Omaha beach-landing atmosphere.

I don't think it deserves an overview-preview. :P But it is fully waypointed if you want to use it... needs a lot of scenery-work and many more vertex colors, and more spawn-points

Here's a map, small jungle based DM, but I never got to finishing it, if anyone wants the polywork have it, it need spawns and scenery. It's meant to be a defaulty, light jungle based theme. Feel free to finish it. (it's really small, like 1v1 sized)

Oh, and give it a sexxy name. ;D

Here: It's sorta unfinished. The polys, textures, shading are all already done. It's the scenery, spawnpoints, waypoints that's needed and missing. Spent quite some time on it, also.

Here are two maps of mine that I attempted to create. One is a ctf map (the first one) and the second one was going to be a city style map but it didn't work out the way I wanted it to. So, if anyone wants to mess with these, go ahead. I believe the ctf map was in the first mappack/maps I ever released ;D.

Ctf - my first attempt at waypointing:

Post by: Kavukamari on April 26, 2007, 10:25:26 pm
okay, I need final touches (bridges, scenery, spawnpoints, shading, that's all I need) done on this map (it's attached)

Name: AncientRuins
Creator: Kavukamari/ *your name could go here*
Type: deathmatch
Texture: potato.bmp

for bridges, I have what I want marked out here:
for scenery: think desert ruins, maybe cacti (cactuses) some broken pillars, desert bushes, don't put too much though, I don't want to over croud the small area we have to work with, and keep the scenery small)
for shading, just make it look realer (more realistic)

just so you know, the light for the shading should come from the top left

can anyone complete this? (no noobs please, I want my shared map to be good)

multiple people working on this would be good, so I can see if I like one person's work more than another

I've got another map for you guys:

Name: Cavernous
Creator: Kavukamari/ *other person*
Type: Deathmatch, Teammatch, Rambomatch
Texture: potato.bmp (again)

I actually did the shading on this one, I've included the only peice of scenery I put in: a bulldozer (at bottom with map) I put in some spawnpoints and a collider (for the dozer) and all this needs is MINE STYLE SCENERY (bulldozers, shiny things underground, a mine house AT THE TOP, big drills, you know, that sort of stuff,) and some dm-type stuff (health, nades, powerups, etc) AND WAYPOINTS!!!!!!!!!! it needs WAYPOINTS!

anyone want to try it?

Hot Gates looks like a really nice map, actually... something like Storm (an old, flat DM map that was somewhat recently taken out ;_;) or a trench-war.
Title: Re: The Map Scrapyard
Post by: The Specialist on August 13, 2007, 09:45:00 am
It might be one of the few of my best works. :-\  Here is what it was supposed to be.

The far left ledge is a cliff and I was going to add a sea and wrecked ships.  In the movie you see a hundred Persian Warships be thrashed by lighting and 300 Spartans were standing on the cliff watching it.

The flat area by the little hill on the left is Xerxes' camp.  I was going to add some ship backgrounds, a lot of crates, tents, etc.

The central part of the map is the battle-ground.  I wasn't really going to do anything with it.

The area next on the left side of a wall is the Spartans camp site.  I was going to add some mountains and you can stand on it to imitate the scene where the Arcandians are leaving and the Spartans stand there watching them and Leonidas says "Tonight, we dine in hell!".

The wall is the stone wall the Spartans built to prevent Persians from flanking them.

The right side is just land and I'll minorally add scenery to it.

Just to give anyone who is going to finish it an idea of what it would be like.

Who knows, if no one is going to give it a try, I'll finish it myself, even though I'm on a map-free vacation. :)

Lovely. Looks fine and sounds good.

I'll take a turn to spam you guys with never-to-be-finished-by-me maps, some utterly worthless to me and of course, to you as well. There are a good amount.

Alien football ship

Berserkers deathmod test

Haelstrom Maze  (http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p124/flyingpeanuts/HaelstromMaze.png)

Icy ghost ship

Little port town

Beware of the map's names as they don't quite correspond to the ones in this list. No screenshots yet because photobucket is down I believe. Will upload those soon. For now, be content with only the maps themselves. They contain the textures as well.

Edit: Most of the maps were crap, so I deleted them. The giant tree one did require some thought when I was making it so it can stay. The Maze thing is crap, but I'll still leave it there. All the maps are still in the mappack for download, but they don't deserve to be seen as options.

EDIT: I can't find the file in your mappack...

Hmm, truly sorry about that. I meant to take the file out because of want to finish it, but I forgot about it here in the scrapyard. I will do that now, but if I do not finish this soon, the project is yours Niko, and nobody elses unless you yourself decide not to do it, or fail in the attempt ;) (unlikely).

Here's a map I intended to make 18 months ago, but never finished it (too much work in life). It was meant to have a junglish theme with lots of sceneries. Of course the texture and the colours weren't even definitive.

That is a very nice map GluLm, I'm going to finish it for you.  Based on the layout, it'll make a good Hold the Flag map.

Doesn't look like a good HTF map to me. A good HTF map can be played as DM. In other words, the spawns suck. CTF indeed might be interesting.

Anyways, here's my final scrap heap. Not all maps have screenshots (actually, not even half):

This is an unfinished map with a multi-texture. Maybe someone will find a good use for this, because I'm not gonna finish it anyway. I wanted to make a trenchwar map, but you can use the PMS to make a normal CTF map if you add some upper ways. There is no sceneries in the map.

I'll use that texture if I can't find a better one for an upcoming map of mine.  I'll experiment with that map and see what I can do with it.

These are some crystals I made for a Zombie Base update that I decided didn't really fit with the map. Nothing horribly complex, but I figured they may be of use to someone. Saved as a Polyworks prefab file.

Hmm nice...This isn't much of a thread to comment on maps though... Hmm, lemme see. I know I have some unfinished maps somewhere, that I won't finish...

Here's this map:

Edit: I hope not too many people wanted to use this map :-\... Well, I took it down because I may want to do something with it later. Still, Laser Guy gets first dibs and he can work on it ;).

If someone wants it, and has a good idea, it's theirs to finish. It'll take me a bit longer to upload it... Meant to be capture the flag. When I first made this map, it was with the intention of making a nice happy map. I almost imagined Fabreeze, if anyone has ever seen Fabreeze... I wanted a nice map where Soldatens could frolic. That was my original idea.

Original Topic (http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=17016.msg195241#msg195241)

Then, I had this idea for an epic zombie map. Zombies spawn in the caves and fields and then parade into the town that you defend. If you fall, so does the city. That was my idea. Currently, it's still all polygons and unfinished stuff. I have no intention of actually finishing it now...

Same goes for this map. I'm sorry but I don't have the upload ready. If anyone has the dire want to at least have the map to say that they will finish it, please request. It'll get me moving faster ;).

My latest disaster.

I would post the sceneries, but i can't find them in my soldat folder and the whole scenery folder is over 25 mb so... You'll just have to get them yourself.
Sorry.

Use SMP (http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=14081.0) for packing maps, it finds sceneries automatically.

Yes, you should definitely finish it.  I can see a lot of potential in that map and it really looks amazing.

I don't see anyone ever being able to use this, but...

A large tank-ish drill I decided to scrap made for a map I'm updating. It uses 96 polygons and 6 sceneries. The size is so large since I originally wanted people to be able to go inside, but I decided that'd take too many polygons. It also doesn't really blend well with the intended map, and I don't see it doing the same for anyone else's. Maybe someone can strip a part from it for use.

DM_Moon looks nice for some fast action albeit it's outer layout is too simple.
The block-shape ruins some of it in my opinion.

Try using some crevices or something to spice it up perhaps? [retard]

You don't want a flat bottom for a DM map. Ever. Even Arena2 is at least kind of hilly for some variation. Provide variation!

Make the boulders smoother to give a more natural feel. A good rule of thumb (though perhaps a bit exaggerated) is this: "If I can count the # of polygons used to make the boulder just from a screenshot, it's probably not enough." :P The top-middle I can see about 8, no?

Zombie, I really like it that you've put a lot of work into that map.

The thing about that map is, wow the dimensions are sooooo loooooongcat. And that the amount of black polys under that map is not needed. Just put some black blank sceneries underneath them and you'll be fine. :)

Also, that the custom buildings you've made for that map needs some darkening. You don't need that much polys for the water, just have two, put over the whole area where water should be, and put it in the back, as well as the pillars, in that order.

And, ah....why am I talking about your map as if it is really finished. It's good, and it's a shame you had to dump it. :( Hopefully, the poster above me would pick it up and finish it.

Since Im leaving, I might as well leave these to you guys. You can probably do more with them then I could.

No credit required if you do make something out of them, cause my name would leave no room for your name.  ;D

All maps were made in mapmaker+.

Bye.

- Asbestos
Hawaiian lava themed map. Not enough of these out there.

- EpicBase
A building in the middle of a DM map. It didn't exactly work out, because of mapmaker.

- Delano
Technically it's done, but it sucks, so thats why its here. Smaller version of DM Gorge.

There aren't really scenerys which fit this blueish theme. Something with dust and some of these fade scenerys may fits.

Anyway, what I forget to ask, what do you think about the design of this map?

It's a bit too open, and I'll make right spawns higher than left ones, because left seems better
