dont know if this is a bug or version change, or just me.
But i used to be able to switch to knife just as I spawned, and hold F immediately and throw it
Now there seems to be a bit of a delay, which really sucks because it means i have disadvantage against spawn killers now. But after i spawn it is perfectly fine.
anyone know what I am talking about?

They took that out...dont ask me why but they did.

They changed it because people could throw it while they were still invincible , thats just p o l l y ics

I agree with you dizzy. It seems ike the beta testers aren't objective enough. Majority of the people playing soldat aren't in a clan and don't take it so seriously as clanners. I'm starting to think that clanners play soldat because of an obligation and not for fun anymore

I try very hard to respect thread titles.... since my post became about much more than the Knife thing, I chose to remove, edit and repost it. People who are only concerned about the 1.4.2 knife thing deserve to find their topic and not get tangled up in my semi-related rants.

well does that mean that i now have enough invincibility to get out of the way from spawn killers?
i remember jumping as soon as i spawn near sawers and they'd still catch my feet anyways, idk i guess its ok

Well now I notice that if i press q and then f without even waiting for my knife to show I can throw it and itll kill them if it would be a hit. :D

It looks as if it's like that but it's really lag that's causing the illusion. Try it offline and you will see that you can't do that.

Balancing issue aswell. EVERYONE uses knife already. Without that, MAYBE someone can change to use LAW more often, or Socom.
Everyone disagrees with this feature, since 70% of people use knife. :|

I agree with Clawbug, knife is already very effective. I'm a law user, but im not complaining about not being able to kill someone right when I spawn. If you look at the stats on a major server, you will find that many many more people use knife than any other secondary. This kinda goes along the lines of the barret a couple versions ago, where they added delay. It was the most used weapon, so it had the same effect.

the knife-only side of that change:
you spawn - you wanna throw because an enemy is near you.
what happens? the enemy is happily throwing at you - your knife just drops lowly down because you threw too early, his knife happily cuts off your ass... you just have no chance to throw back.
and what's the reason for this change? if someone is in your base ready to spawnkill you the i think it's good if you have a small advantage. AND: the invincibility is not THAT long. for real it doesn't help (me) anything..

So what? Let him spawnkill. I haven't been spawnkilled in public servers since 1.1.5 at least not that much I would think it as lame tactic, or would even bother to complain about it.
Same goes for clanwars, sure it is annoying in maps like ctf_Voland, 1 enemy just spawnkills and 2 others run the flags, 1-3 easy caps.
Knifes advantages over others, and now people whining that they can not kill spawnkillers with it, oh come on! ;(

This update dosent help against those lame spawn killers and that sux. but yeah, i can understand why they did it. i have no problem with it. i just play on and have fun.

The only maps that spawning really affects are close ranged maps, the key one would be ash, and probably nuubia. While voland is bad, a fast throwing knife wouldn't help out there, because you wont get killed as soon as you spawn, you just get trapped up there. I personally don't see any problem with this change with the knife. It barely affects people, and only in certain situations.

I like that feature taken out, being spawnkilled with knife like that is one of the most irritating things in the game imo.

I guess it gave knife-users too much of an advantage over any other secondary users at spawn. Spawnkilling's part of the game.
Offtopic: a bug was crawling across my screen and I thought it was just some cool thing on the forums.

As a previously hardcore active clan member, I can vouch that this was a great idea. You arent supposed to be able to shoot or be shot at during that 3 second invincibility, this includes knives.
MM Made this change all on his own, without any influence from beta testers.

Yeah I agree, no one else could do it so why should the knife users be able too? Pretty much is just common sense.

ok cool, because yah killing the enemies just as they spawn was really useful, and usually not many people know how to use knife just as they spawn anyways from what ive seen, its always nades nades nades
so i guess i dont really have to worry.

plus remember guys if it comes down to it you too can spawn kill back!
