This has been a furious debate at my school for a while. What do you guys think?
I think Pirates, 'cause they have scurvy and they get the ladies in the end! :P However, ninjas would likely win in a fight.

That's only half true. Ninjas commonly used small boats to carry themselves, weapons, and toold over bodies of water.
However, Ninjas were often relatively poor, and so they had cheaper swords than the Samurai. If a ninja killed a Samurai, he would take the Samurai's sword, simply because they are better.

I think Ninjas are cooler because they just are. Think about it, They're stealthy, black, they have cool swords and (back then) advanced technology, awesome ninjtsu (ninjutsu...) skillz, and they're just cool. Oh, and they have mysticle powerz. They can disappear and whatnot.

The ninja and pirate are facing each other and are about half a screen's distance away. Who will win, the one with the projectile or the one with the melee weapon?

Nonsense. Pirates have rifles. Besides, the ninja would have to get that close first. And pirates work in groups, how else are they going to move the ship. Ninjas work alone because it's a lot harder to hide 10 people than it is to hide one.

Uh, both pirate pistols and rifles were reloadable. The japanese eventually made guns too, but THEY were one-shot guns. Also, how would the ninja's colour make it harder for the pirate to hit it?
P.S: Shuriken. So, according to you, they suddenly defy any laws of physics that wouldn't let them hit pirates?

I am most definately a Ninja. Seriously, i am totally Ninja. i have 2 black belts in Karate (seriously, i have a 1st dan Black belt and a normal one), plus I'm Ninja-Captain of my school (as voted by me and my group :D).

Well, let's see if you can relate any of the following qualities to both ninjas and SWAT teams.
Stealth, good reaction time, intelligence, strength, thinking fast in fast situations, knowledge of what might occur while working and knowing in what situations these things might occur in, masting the use of used weapons, etc
And as for CIA (NOT based on movies - these are based on those sneaky, betraying facts):
Stealth, strength, excellent melee combat skills, good reaction time, mastering or getting the hang of most weapon types, being constantly ready for the improbable and impossible, etc
For my and your entertainment, I went and looked up some ninja facts on Wikipedia. I'll quote the cool and plausable stuff.
Ninja has two meanings. Originally, Ninja were said to be agents of espionage and assassination in feudal Japan in legend and popular fiction. Revered by some as the world's first special forces, some modern practitioners of budo ninjutsu argue that ninja were used primarily as spies, not assassins, and this appears to be borne out by some historical records. It is popularly believed that the ancient ninja were peasants, forbidden under law from studying the samurai swordplay techniques because of feudal Japan's caste structure, but more likely they originated from a variety of castes.
Another idea supporting the absence of a ninja outfit and any specific weaponry is that, if caught or seen, they would have been identified as enemies. This would only result in capture, torture, and probably a very slow and painful execution. Thus, these spies and assassins were far more likely to be disguised as samurai, priests, or peasants or when situation dictates, dark green, blue or dark red outfit which offers better camouflage to its surroundings. Ninja boots (tabi) have the split-toe design to improve gripping and wall/rope climbing. They are virtually silent.
Ninjaja also employed a variety of weapons and tricks using gunpowder. Smoke bombs and firecrackers were widely used to aid an escape or create a diversion for an attack. They used timed fuses to delay explosions. Ōzutsu (cannons) they constructed could be used to launch fiery sparks as well as projectiles at a target. Small "bombs" called metsubishi (not the company) were filled with sand and sometimes metal dust. This sand would be carried in bamboo segments or in hollowed eggs and thrown at someone, the shell would crack, and the assailant blinded. Even land mines were constructed that used a mechanical fuse or a lit, oil-soaked string. Secrets of making desirable mixes of gunpowder were strictly guarded in many ninja clans. Other forms of trickery were said to be used for escaping and combat. Ashiaro are wooden pads attached to the ninja's tabi (thick socks with a separate "toe" for bigger toe; used with sandles). The ashiaro would be carved to look like an animal's paw, or a child's foot, allowing the ninja to leave tracks that most likely would not be tracked. Also a small ring worn on a ninja's finger called a shobo would be used for hand-to-hand combat. The suntetsu would be held against a finger (mostly middle) on the palm-side and when the hand was thrusted at an opponent, the longer piece of wood would be used to hit the pressure points.
Many of these ninja spoofs pit them against pirates and ask the question If a pirate and a ninja were to fight, who would win? Modern ninja are also often (paradoxically) depicted as both redshirts (when they are the villains of the piece, and in particular when they appear in large numbers) and as nearly invulnerable opponents (when they are the heroes of the piece, or when they appear as a single foe to be overcome). A good example of this paradox in action can be found in the American Ninja and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, where the protagonists (ninja) easily defeat waves of enemy ninja on multiple occasions.

I actually saw a program about this on discovery not too long ago. Turns out there are actually some connections, but not nearly enough to make a direct connection. The main tactic for a ninja is diversion - to put the enemys attention somewhere else, and then strike. As is it for SWAT, you take the advantage of a suprice attack, but that's about that. If you call this a connection, I'll say a kid stealing handbags from old ladies is as much a ninja as SWAT are.

What are you talking about? Pirates use the ATI radeon Z920990, while Ninjas use far less superior video cards, Nvidia 22222, which in my opinion sucks.

Having this as one of those random brotherly conversations, me and my twin came to the conclusion that- One Ninja is cooler than one Pirate, but Pirates are better overall as they make a career on what are basically huge road-trips (well, sea-trips) filled with heavy drinking, owning merchants and solders, plundering ships and towns, all with loads of ship mates on a ship full of cannons. Plus its one of the few occupations where having a large beard is cool.

C'mon, if pirates honestly went on land ninjas would take them apart. They know martial arts with all kinds of weapons and pirates just learn sword fighting if they get lucky enough for someone to teach them. :P Also, the guns they had were single shot so they'd have to carry a whole bunch of 'em to get multiple shots, thus (probably) slowing them down.

They technically can't "Dodge" bullets, but they can run fast enough so that the Pirates miss, and Pirates can't dodge shurikens, nor run really fast (Compared to a Ninja), so they are sitting ducks.

Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Educate yourself about the movies, the "pirates of the carribean" movies are fairytales, there are much better movies on the subject: crimson pirate, numerous movie versions of treasure island, Captain Blood etc. I suggest you watch some old, MGM era pirate movies, because they are great action-adventure flicks

lol, unless I've skimmed page or something I've not seen any pirate-promoting posts which talk about modern[/b] pirates nowadays who raid military shipyards, ride small motorboats attacking other ships with grenade launchers, machine guns, etc.
Well, in that case, Pirates also outlived ninjas. They win for length of life and adapting to the modern day world.

The only thing ninjas have going for them is an awesome platforming game; pirates have two awesome movies, due for a third. Pirates win.
Another thing to contemplate, if a pirate becomes an undead, cybernetic, or anything else, its still a pirate. But if a ninja gets zombied, digitalized, or something, its no longer a proper ninja. Another point for pirates.
