Title: I`m quitting Soldat
Post by: Lobasuu on August 20, 2007, 04:10:16 am
That`s it. After about 3 years of playing, I am finally quitting Soldat. Not forever, but for as long as I can, anyway.

Soldat is, in my opinion, better than ever before. BE really works, I haven't seen a single hacker since 1.4.
The reason why I am not going to start soldat.exe for a long time is quite simple: it is one hell of an addictive game! I have never, ever played a game for such a long time. Thanks to the awsome community it has such a huge variety of different gamemodes, so one can`t possibly get bored of the game.

For example, up until now, I played trenchwars, Rambo (I just got into that, it was great), race maps, Leo`s inf/ctf, Ctf_Worldtour, knife only, climb maps, Toumaz`s Fistbox (that one is also brilliant) almost daily! It didn`t really take that much time, maybe 2+ hours a day or so (but occasionally a lot more), but I still felt as though I could do something far more important.

Don`t get me wrong. I don`t think computer games are a waste of time, definitely not! It`s just that Soldat is a hard game to play 30-minutes-a-day, since it is hard to leave after both terrible loss (revenge is sweet) and a wonderful win (always a pleasure to play with a good team), so it does take a lot more time than an average offline game.

I will still visit the forums, who knows, maybe I will start posting more and become active, but you will not see me on Soldat for a while.

I also play almost 3 years. After i got a new flat and had to wait for more than 3 month to get my DSL back (still have no DSL > FUCK ARCOR! [btw]) i thought many times about why i like to play this game so often (I played it also aprox. 2 hours a day). It was a good lesson.

It's a shame when people run away from Soldat because they think it's a step to 'getting a life' etc etc. Sure, you can and should 'get a life', but that doesn't mean you have to totally quit Soldat. It's all about balance: Soldat is never a full-time job unless you are one of those hardcore clanners that have time to burn.

And more focusing on your situation, maybe you could try an online RTS, as the end of the match feels more decisive.

Zomg, I was just typing up exactly what you said. You covered my points.

Some people like to call it "quit" some call it "retire." My mate has retired but he still mucks around on Soldat when he's feeling bored or just needs something to do, he's still good at the game and he hardly plays it. I think it's just stupid to leave such a great game forever and never come back to it.
