I'm doing some remakes of default maps like Lagrange (Did it - SunnyPath (http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=18179.0))and Bunker. They are good maps but them looks (In my opinion) ugly. So i decided to do some map remakes like X-Tender's Airpirates remake. I ask (My ones)if they will be added in future versions of Soldat. Because they are the most played maps- (Must look ok, the mapmaking is an art)- So I decided to remake some maps (Most poor looking) from Arena to Veoto.. (In my free time) Respecting the original layout. IF they will be replaced by the original ones. I can see our maps (Very good ones, better than the defaults) never will be played in any server, and that's cruel, because we spend a lot of time doing them and nobody enjoy them.
SO post your opinion. If you want support me or not. I'm working on them now, i like it, but if you want a remake of every map somebody must support me. I promise they don't will look ugly ;).

If you only intend to improve the looks of the map and not the layout, it would be nice if you made the remade maps as playable as default ones. For example, see VTT's ice version of Arena 2, which can be played as the default map (by replacing the .pms file)

That's what I want do, because the polygons/sceneries looking is horrible for my taste. Nobody will play my maps so i'm sad. I love mapmaking buy nobody enjoy it. I respect the layout, I only change the looking.

i hate the airpirates remake. old one wasn't good either but i prefered that one. it has more of the soldat feel to it.. soldat = medium maps, not highq like all the new ones in my opinion..
but still, if you want to remake them just do it :)

Like TBDM said, if you want to remake them, go right ahead. I'd love to see better looking maps. You'll get the support once we see the results.

If you want to remake default map, it's alright.
But I don't think they should replace any current map.
Adding them though is another problem.

I asked Keron a while back asking if I can help him fix some of the maps, he allowed me and I made back-ups of some of them I think has the worst condition and I sent it to him through his email. He said I did a nice job with some of them but it wasn't what he was looking for.
The only thing that I don't like about how the maps have changed is the addition of new scenery like the ones in Bunker and inf_Outpost, it makes the maps look ugly. But I did appreciate how polygon bugs were fixed and waypoints were revised. MM, Beta Testers, and Keron would most likely not accept your copies of the default maps. There really isn't a point to do this, just a waste of time.

I like how Bunker looks, what I don't like is how you can't get on top of it...
Really I do like how the default maps are, I like the looks and layout (though cambodia's lower section needs to be shrunk).

The Specialist, there was never new scenery added to Bunker. What you see, except for the polygons blocking the roof (too many people abused it), has always been there.
You may remake any levels if you want, ~Niko~, but if you want them to get into the next version of Soldat they may not be treated any differently than as if custom maps were being added, and may be even stricter (like in looking to see if you fixed any gameplay problems and other facets that could have been improved in the originals).

What about the smaller bunker.bmps on the sides of the map.Ā Weren't they added?

Niko, remake inf_Undermine. That map was a great infiltration map, but it had a few too many polybugs.

I like how Bunker looks, what I don't like is how you can't get on top of it...
Really I do like how the default maps are, I like the looks and layout (though cambodia's lower section needs to be shrunk).

Agree, some maps need theme, example arena, i think it can be a forest or things like that :D

Well firstly I want to see one of your remakes on a custom map. If the others and I like it, I guess you'd have a lot of support. Just remake one, post it up and let us see.

A custom map? Which? I did the Lagrange remake (http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=18179.0) and was very very well.

Those have always been there. The ONLY changes there have been in the past are what I did into v1.4, that you can find in the Maps Change-log. I never added any scenery to Bunker if that's what you're implying; I only tweaked the waypoints, a few colliders, and some polygon structure.
That Lagrange remake is actually pretty nice, ~Niko~... I just don't like the sun at all. It makes the screen too yellow IMO :P But that's just my personal preference

I've must have remebered wrong then, they should be removed eitherway because they are unnecessary and makes the map look ugly.

i dont support you because well, so what if their ugly, their original maps that began when soldat was first started. the original maps are part of soldats history

Yes, leave the old maps alone. The new langrange doesn't look bad, but it lacks the original "soldat" feeling... ehh... as most of the "Beatiful" maps do... Btw, new Airpirates sucks! >:E

Actually in my idea, an example of a true Soldat map would be something of default quality and it would be something like Krab, Langrange, Tropiccave, inf_Abel, ctf_Ash, htf_Arch, and etc. Not maps by VirtualTT for example who uses a massive amount of scenery and uses a bunch of dark colors to hide all of the polygon bugs and connects polygons by the edges. That's why I love the map maker Chakapoko Maker, I believe his map making style is what creates a true Soldat map.

Agreed. Chakapoko maker is the best one out there. His maps are legendary not to mention himself aswell.

I don't support you if this would replace the default maps... Your remake of Lagrange differs a lot of the original look. Your version isn't bad (I liked it ;)) but I don't think the look of some default maps should change drastically...
Players are accustomed with this "ugly" look of soldat. You should attempt to the big number of players in all over the world which dislikes the X-Tender's version of Airpirates.
As you've said, mapmaking is an "art" and Soldat propitiates many "mapmaking styles". Like paintings... From the default and simple look to realistic. And the default maps has a look which certainly was important to make this game popular. If you change this you're taking a serious risk because you're working with something that was already estabilished by the players.
I think maybe some little improvements (disrespecting polybugs fix and waypoints) could be done; like adding more color on the Arena's polygons, or adding some trees (just a stupid example, I like Arena as it is).
But it should be done by Michal and/or the original mappers.
All the mappers has your own style.I have my own, and you have yours.Ā Chakapoko's has his own, VTT has one which is a lot different. But they still great mappers.
For example, I like maps which are a kind of realistic but not too much... A kind of mixing between realistic style and the default maps (like Desertwind). But I don't try to do maps like Desertwind, my idea is always to create good maps with something different and new. If they're good or not I don't know. I just try...
So, if you work on some new ideas for your maps, you certainly will be a better mapper and have more success. Your maps will starts to be played and maybe, some map by you could be an official map on the next versions... :)
But if you want to make the remakes, go ahead. At least it could turn into a good mappack.

It is as if you did not want to go beyond what a map can offer, besides a good enjoyability, have an atmosphere that fits with the rest of the landscape, it seems to me to be really stupid that you don't want to go beyond what it might do. In addition only I am asking for your support to develop a new generation of maps very different from what we had seen before, maps with shades, effects in the sky etc... I Believed that it was going to receive more support and I am taking a disappointment to me. I do not ask them that they make them you, simply that support me when this does reality.
Did not you want to change the weapons looking? The interface? The graphics? The enjoyability? Why do not we change anything that in a future everybody will enjoy?
I hope thrilled that you change opinion, up to the moment I will continue with the project.

Soldat wouldn't be soldat with the new maps. Keep the realistic looking maps for TW and other realistic modes - That's where is their place.

I'm not against the "new generation of maps". If I was, my maps would be totally defaultish. I just don't agree with radical changes on the look of all default maps.
I would like to see some maps with different look as default of course... But new maps, like htf_Erbium and Factory. Together with the old maps as they're.

Niko, try to make default maps look good using just default scenery, textures and without multi texturing - That should give them fresh, new look while keeping the old style ;)

No, you don't will see me making a non-multitextured map. And default sceneries don't give me enough variety to do a full sceneries map with my style. The trees are ugly, I'm using VTT's vegetation pack and they work very well. I don't will do any map without any custom scenery, like VTT's vegetation pack or RIR's sceneries (Both very essentially)

to be truthful, I don't like the way the new lagrange plays, remove the polys on the bunkers and boxes and make it easier to move around and I'll be fine

Actually i kinda think bunker looks cool. Lemme know when your done with those maps. I might host them for the arcade madness server.

The bunker looks cool. It's just that you can't camp there no more :P. The layout is the same but I love the added stuff. Maybe the sun is a little too much.

Make a list of who's doing what. I'm doing Voland and maybe inf_moonshine afterwards. ctf_ash, ctf_b2b, ctf_viet(has that had one?), ctf_run, ctf_snakebite, and ctf_maya all definitely needs a bit of an overhaul. I'll leave laos out of it, I think the remake is overly different though.

I agree. Ash is in ruins, need a change, it's a very played map. I dunno which will be my next remake, do every map remake will need months... if someone can help me, with resources or making them, please tell me. I hope he don't said my bunker sucks. :D. How goes Voland? Any sugerence to remake a other map? I got 4~ hours or more today... I can start with the layout today. I'm looking for the most "ugly" look maps.

hey niko, the only reason i registered was for you, and these map remakes better be good :D, one thing though, make sure there are CAMPING areas, some of the previous posts say they have been removed... (gutted :| ). Sorry for all those players out there that think campers are noobs, (and they are), but camping is a fact of life for soldat and these maps MUST have them ok. Cheers!

Niko, ffs, if you're making a REMAKE make it a REMAKE, not SEQUEL. Keep the original style... Bunker doesn't look like a bunker...
Btw, i'm pretty sure somebody already did remake of b2b (b2bpretty, i think it was Avarax, but i'm not sure)

Why everybody don't likes my maps?? I do them realistic, so there it is!! The sky is of the color which it is!! and the bunker is a lot better than the last one, (the last can't be used to camp) It's rewaypointed, and I will doing more maps, but if nobody want them I don't will upload them, like demonic: Nobody does constructive criticism (Only one or two of a lot of people). In this map you can camp like in the other one, It's COMPLETELY THE SAME LAYOUT. And I removed every possible polybug with a new technique of my own. CTF_Ash coming soon. And MM should add some on these maps... I think.

It's not that people don't like your maps, as Mastadi said, you're not exactly remaking them, you're sequelling them. The more a map is re-made the more the "Soldat feel" is lost. Your maps are fine, they just differ quite a bit from the originals.

My main suggestion is to not change too much, so that the gameplay style doesn't change, but it looks better.

I was making ctf_Ash, but was boring... Now I am remaking ctf_Lanubya with a awesome 4-textures multitextured. If i want it (As possible) in the next version must I use default sceneries only? Lanubya will keep the jungle style themed.

Hopefully this map will be an improvement. If you don't get the support you wanted, just make a ~Niko~ mappack. I'm pretty sure you'll get a decent amount of downloads.

I'm doing the layout, but when i am going to add sceneries a get bored (I am lazy).
I will contact with As de Espada and I hope he will help me adding sceneries and do the mappack...
