Post by: Dascoo on September 13, 2007, 08:13:34 pm
Okay kids. I know someone made a thread a million years ago regarding what instruments you play....so rather then bumping that thread, I'm just making a new one....so what do you play, and how well do you play?

I play Bass guitarĀ  ;D

I am good at making strange noises with most anything I touch. My buddy hooked up a WAH pedal to a keyboard and we jammed out once... that was classic.

I've been playing bagpipes for a little more than two years now. Aside from what you may think, it's a cool instrument (and one of the hardest to play, physically and rhythmically).

Here's an example of the sheet music I go through: The Camerionian Rant (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v24/IrocZ500/?action=view&current=Picture11.jpg). I would've scanned it but it's being uncooperative...

I hated marching band. Every form of authority is completely anal, and it's not fun to be in uniform in the middle of August for 6 or 7 hours at a time.

Real intruments I've played on are drums, piano, guitar and bass but only in music classes(and I had one performance in front of 200+ people). Bass was my favourite :P

Total bull**** ;) I know 2 persons from my school who have started playing guitar alot later. The other one is 28 years old at the moment, started playing when he was 25, and the other one is 23 who started playing at the age of 20.

It is not when you start playing, but what you start playing. For example if you strat playing songs from abnds like Iron maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, and such, you can play them for like 6 years until you can say you know something. Or, then play some Jazz. Once year, and you will learn alot more than with 6 years of rock/metal. ;) Though, the numbers are out-from-the-hat, but you should get what I mean. Sure the jazz is alot harder and more technical overall, but with that you also learn the techniques.

Oh, and I do not play anything, though I have a guitar (Or actually 2 guitars, electric and acoustic). I play the electric whenever I am bored, so once a month for 5-30 minutes. I can not play almost anything, but I just open some tabs and try to play them. After a while I get the feeling that "This aint for me.", and then I start doing something else, and whoom, I am not bored anymore. :P

At the moment my main instrument is guitar but I played bass earlier for some years and can play it also. Piano I can play still even though haven't played it seriously for many years anymore. Violin also but that I wouldn't count as playing since I can play only few basic things.

electric guitars
classical guitars
electric bass
greek bouzouki
tin whistle
irish flute
uilleann bagpipes
bodhran
ukulele
banjo
fiddle

I play them all pretty well, and I play a fusion of traditional Celtic folk music, black metal, drone doom, and dark ambient music. (http://magmell.llsc.us/ - http://magmell.llsc.us/manoffamine.mp3 + http://magmell.llsc.us/track8.mp3 for something more classical??)

I used to play a bunch of other instruments like the Tenor and Bass saxophone, but the ones above are all that I play regularly.

I've been playing guitar for about six years now. I've got an electric, 6 string acoustic, 12 string acoustic, and a classical guitar. I payed for most of them, so I've sunk a lot of money into it. I'm in a band and we play blues rock, classic rock, and progressive rock. I can pretty much play anything you put in front of me.

I can also play drums, but I'm really bad at it, and I'm learning piano. I do most of the songwriting for my band, so all of my time outside of school, parties, and Soldat I'm playing music.

I can play the electric guitar better than anyone else in the world that ever existed or will ever exist.

Including Mar77a.

I can kick your ass.

I'm quite a beginner with the Irish Tin Whistle. I know such classics as Danny Boy and am learning The Silver Spear as well, it's not 100%. Not bad for having a whistle for about 2 weeks, eh? n00bface has got me intrigued enough to try to get my hands on uilleann bagpipes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF3fW4Nox9U) which sound amazing and are also a traditional Irish instrument (not to be confused with Scottish bagpipes).

Link leads to a sample of Uilleann Bagpipe playing in which Seamus Ennis plays for your enjoyment. He is commonly known as the god of the Uilleann pipes.

Glad I got you interested in the Uilleann pipes, krypt!

Here's a couple of other sweet videos - I'm learning both of these songs right now.  Doinna is the easiest of the two, but the embellishments are a million times harder than what Mikie is doing in Downfall of Paris.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0KQTv8qvkE - Doinna
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF8uHVu4Res - Downfall of Paris

Most emotional instrument in traditional folk music for sure, as Doinna proves!!

Here are my pretty pipes :)
