Title: NR-Service (Nickname Registration)
Post by: EnEsCe on June 09, 2006, 01:12:15 am
(Repost from old SoldatForums)
NR-Service Releas (Nickname Registration)
NR-Service is designed to help you protect your name from Imposters, and protect your precious server stats!

How it works:
Your client connects to the NR-Service central server (Hosted by U13), after your client has been validated your client will send a packet saying "REFRESH" to central server, NR-Service will then update its records of your IP allowing only that IP to join any of the servers registered with NR-Service with your gamename! (Note that 'Soldier' is already being used)

Please make sure you read README.txt if you have any issues or queries.

Huge credit goes to FliesLikeABrick for hosting and general support, I probably would have ditched this project if it wasnt for him.

To Register + Download NR-Service: http://nr.EnEsCe.com (http://nr.EnEsCe.com)

Download NR-DynIP V1.0.0: http://EnEsCe.com/NR-Service/NickAuthClient.zip (http://EnEsCe.com/NR-Service/NickAuthClient.zip)

Join the NR-Service Network: Join Network Form (http://dyn.u13.net:7080/host/nrserv/)

Reconnect Server (If NR-Service isnt connected): http://nr.EnEsCe.com/resetserver (http://nr.EnEsCe.com/resetserver)

Forgotten Password? http://nr.EnEsCe.com/resetserver (http://nr.EnEsCe.com/lostpassword)

All but one of the links are broken. :( Can you give a list of the servers that currently support this?

NR-Service is down, because its hosted by FliesLikeABrick, so untill he comes online again and starts the server back up; it's down.

The problem is that dyn.u13.net now points to this server.  ted.u13.net points to the server you want it to go to.  you can use the IP instead, but I would highly reccomend using ted.u13.net instead so that I can update it when my IP changes.

Sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully the clients all use an enesce.com CNAME to connect instead of dyn.u13.net

Hmm.. Yes I had change the passwords but now they're back to the ones I used when I registered. Service still doesn't connect, also there are no working links to register a new server.

yeah, all of the links on http://nr.enesce.com need to be updated to ted.u13.net

Well, the link to the registration form is http://dyn.u13.net:7080/host/nrserv/ which, of course, doesn't work. But link http://ted.u13.net:7080/host/nrserv/ also doesn't work. Which is then the working link ?

Ok I have VNC back, I just had a quick look and it seems to be attempting to connect, but timing out. Ill look into it tomorrow, for now I must sleep.
Oh and nr.enesce.com has been redirected to ted, it just takes awhile for your browser to refresh it...

Leo: none of them should be :7080, they should all be :7081.  Also, everything should be ted.u13.net

Enesce, the links in the html at http://nr.enesce.com still need to be changed from dyn.u13.net to ted.u13.net

NR-Service is now connected to your servers Leo.
Links fixed in HTML.
But Flies, the webserver you had running on 7080 is down, thats where I had the join network script and script to email registrations >_>

ah, er... oops? :-/

I was going through that box the other day and cleaning a lot of stuff off the hard drive, I completely forgot you used the webserver on there at all (nothing else used it anymore)

Do you want me to set it back up, or can you get some kind of work around going?

Ok you 2, just tell me when this works as I want to use the system. I changed host and the script I used before stopped working.

I'm very sorry enesce, but I deleted the whole wwwroot because I had been sure there were only scripts in there from back when I used to run a public server on windows there (the stats drove the scripts etc).

Unfortunately since that machine is windows, I never was able to set up a backup system for it.

What happened to this?

I couldn't play soldat for almost a year because my video card was failing and couldn't handle it. I finally upgraded a lot of hardware on my PC and reinstalled soldat.

I found an old install of NR-DynIP for Enesce's NR service but it won't work gets connection errors.

Was this scrapped or something else put in place to replace it or what? What happened?

NR-Service was closed down a very long time ago. Since then, there has been lots of scripted versions released (Search on SoldatCentral) (http://soldatcentral.com). The next version of Soldat will feature global nickname protection, though.

Thanks for the quick reply! Good to hear it is being implemented into an upcoming version.

Have you thought though of gathering logs from popular servers to create an IP database to match Nicks up with IPs to prevent people from registering as many as they can--stealing them from other people?

Or would people who registered soldat have an earlier chance at registering them?

It wouldnt be useful as the most people have dynamic ip addresses.
There is an option for registered users to bind their name to the account (so protecting them from getting stolen)

Hence why there was an auto updater. :P
