I used to think it was possible until I saw that you had to execute a application, so how would you execute the application via FTP or remotly? like how does enesce soldat server hosting work?
-
Its not likely.
But if your hosting has no idea what its doing there might be a way around it.
-
how?
-
Your have windows or linux hosting?
-
I don't know xD
-
the short answer is "yes it is possible if you have PHP or CGI access"
the long answer is "yes, but your host will shut down your account once they see you doing something like this, and even if you get it working it'll run horribly because web servers are very bursty and not intended for running things like game servers"
It isn't worth your time. If you want to have your own Soldat server, rent one.
-
I have those things and my webhosting is just startig so it won't be busy and he's a nice guy I'm friends with him, so plz tell me how.
-
or use your home connection. I do aswell. Ping is good for european players but thats where it ends aswell. 10 mbit...
-
but I want it to go on all 24/7
-
Use shell() (http://www.php.net/shell).
<?php
shell("nohup ./soldatserver > /dev/null &");
?>
Make sure you're in the same dir where you extracted the zip. For more info, read http://devs.u13.net/wiki/Server .
-
thanx but how do I do this? maybe PM me, thanx
-

thats too mch money, my hosting is only 2$/month plz tell me how, plz!
-
Mike, you won't be allowed to. Your account will get suspended swiftly and it would run like a chicken on gravy. Especially for that price.
-
For that price you shouldn't even try to run it. I'm sure you have bandwidth and space restrictions as well.
You might be able to host a 1 slot server!
-
lol thats where everyone is wrong, as I said I already talked to Ian and he said its ok, the only thing I'm having problems with is getting him to host the .exe file and I have Unlimited bandwith and space!

Then if he is your friend you might as well just ask him for a shell account on the server so that you can run it properly. If he's not giving you that, then he apparently doesn't want you running programs on there.
-
You can NOT run a dedicated server at a shared host, it will lag horribly. Try it and you'll remember my words ;)
-
ill try it

ill try it
You, sir, are an ass. you came here asking whether or not to do it. EVERY SINGLE POST in this thread said "it is a bad idea, it'll get you kicked off of your post, and it won't work well, even if you can get it working."
If you knew you were just going to say "he's my friend, I'm going to do it anyway" WHY did you even come here to ask for our input on it?
-
He only wanted to know how to do it...
-
I got a question, Can I run a Dedicated sever and a small website (clan site) from 1 machine. (old one I will get working... Hopefully)
-
It's possible. You can run several services on your machines, it's just limited by the power, RAM and stuff. You should try to use a smaller HTTP Server than a full apache. Try lighthttpd, if Apache consumes to much resources. I think more important is your internet connection.
