Title: rawr
Post by: -Vis- on January 30, 2008, 10:08:52 pm
Finally got around to learning how to use transparency via GIMP a few days ago. Opinions on my new siggy? :) At first I thought the shadow was a bit much, but if I reduce it, the pixellation around the image becomes more apparent. Looking at it now, I think it looks cool with the extra shadowing.

Stabby stabby wabby wabby (I'm a sig maker failure but, maybe make it seem less perfectly smooth at the blade like rusted dry blood or something? Yes Shadow makes it pwn... Maybe put your name at the outside of the image that isn't rigged with transparency...)

I cried tears of joy.

I think it looks awesome with the glow effect. Yeah, it'd be bad ass if it was dripping blood and looked like it'd been used in a violent manner, but that might be too distracting. Only thing I don't really like is that the VIS text reminds me a lot of the VHS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHS) logo.

Pff. Well maybe I'll remove the text. But it'll look a bit plain, so any suggestions as to what to replace it with?

Also, the perspective camera (from the 3d render) makes it look a bit longer than I'd like, so I think I'll shorten it just a tad. After all, it's a knife, not a sword. ;D

So much better than your older one. ;D

Yeah I wanted it back, but I knew it was time to get rid of that big black box. :P

Removed the text, and shortened the blade slightly.

I suggest you put the VIS text back on the knife, just use a different font. Maybe a violent / aggressive one and make the text shiny gray or white.

I think it's freaking awesome, mate. Definitely a keeper! Good work!

Shut the hell up jrgp, leave it like it was Vis. Trying to make it "bloody" would make it look retarded.

Yeah I don't really want the blood (wouldn't know how to make it look good anyway :B).

I'll mess around with some fonts, see what I can find.

Thanks for the comments. :)

i dislike the grip.
cutting edge of the blade also needs to be a bit bigger i think...seems to small.

I will, but I'm looking for better fonts to use.

How about making it look like the letters were gouged into the knife, instead of being written onto it?

Also one thing that has always bugged me is that there is no sharpened surface. No black knife will have a black blade. There is a small strip of silver on the blade from when it has been sharpened.

Hmm.. yeah! Vis, wasn't it like that at some point?

Maybe a serrated part of the blade along the blunt side.

Actually it was, but only a little, because the anti-aliasing made it look funny if the inscription was too deep.

Also one thing that has always bugged me is that there is no sharpened surface. No black knife will have a black blade. There is a small strip of silver on the blade from when it has been sharpened.

I know what you mean, but I'm not interested in aiming for realism, so I don't really care much about that.

Maybe a serrated part of the blade along the blunt side.

There is no blunt side (who says there has to be one? :P), but I have considered this in the past, and I agree it would look pretty cool. I'll see what I can do with it.

What I meant:Very sorry for the crappy glow, I use paint.net thus, Have no method of removing that while magic-wanding.

Aye, it could do with some bluring, as you can see the pixels on the edge of that glow.
