Laser Guy, they're not. Not even close.  Not only does the menu image NOT show different attachments on the gun, the proportions are completely different.

Here, lemme show you, the last image in each set is a simple resize.

PaFel thanks, I'll include that now.

It's okay.  That's flattering, if that's the case.

Front foregrip is too short because I don't want the gun to touch the letters at all.  This can be fixed if I remove the letters or change the name to M4A1.

I love this gun, but it's kind of tall.  I had to cut down some of the scopes to make it fit in the space.  I hope I won't have to do that with too many other weapons.

1. Too sharp stock.

2. bollocksy Picatinny rail or what ever is that under the front grip (in every).

Rest is good as it is :)

The one in the Spec Ops kit in BF2:SF is a G36, but fully black. The one you have here has a few brown areas on it.... so confusing. Personally I like the fully black, but thats my own personal taste.

The one in spec ops kit in BF2 is G36C and the ont in speco ops in BF2:SF is as I good remember G36K. The brown you propably mean is transparent magazine that shows how many bullets you still have. And it's standard magazine. Haven't seen all black mag for it yet (except the drum one for MG36).

All the pistols are now done.  These were really fun to do and although I've done all these guns before in the past, I think these are my best attempts so far.  I especially like how the 1911 turned out.

Honestly the hardest part is trying to make that mess of yellow pixels look like the words "Desert Eagle."

I would like to have a configurator for this but I'm not good with coding that stuff.  If anyone knew how to make one of those configs and would like to help, please do.

I love them. Not much in bullets, but it backs a punch ;)

Btw Papasmurf... Does that Colt come with the LAM attachment? (like the S.W.A.T version of the gun) Coz that would go nicely with the silencer ;).. and even without the silencer it would look SEXY.

Im not the one who should talk anyway. I just like your weapons and It was just my humble opinion.

For me its much better. But I see there one pixel on the right side which is still too bright for me. But thats matter of taste. I find it more realistic if that side should be darker a little bit.

Agree with Dairy. I just atched my M9 and it's good wisible.

Imo it should look like:

|darker|as is now|darker|

:)

Btw: Mk.23 - normal but LAM is damn awesome!

Btw2: DE could be more shiny. :) But that's only my opinion.

I don't like the gun in game but i found it a fun challenge to make.  It has some odd proportions and curves, which forces me to use anti-aliasing more than I would like.  Still think it turned out okay tho.

I really enjoyed making this AK.  I've done way too many ak type variants in the past and took all the best parts for each of those, applied an excessive layer of anti-aliasing and came up with what I think is my best ak so far.

It's a refreshing change to do the left side of the weapons, which normally have completely different characteristics from the right side.

Frankly, TBC, you'll never see a laser line from the side in real life unless the laser was aimed through a cloud of dust [due to how the photons in lasers are collimated], and since Papasurf seems to be aiming for [no pun intended] a very realistic effect, I think the laser line would be somewhat counterproductive.

lol don't take it so seriously.  Hey, you got what you wanted right? cheer up, mate.

EDIT: didn't want to double post.  I've started on the SMGs, which are proving to be quite challenging.  They are smaller than most other weapons, but can't be made too small.  But they shouldn't be the same size as the other weapons either.  It's a dilemma that I'm still working on.  Finished the ak-74u and the mp5, pretty satisfied with both.  I'm sick right now and vacation's ending so updates are going to come slower.

Underslung weapons on assault rifles add 25% more awesomeness.

Which brings an idea to mind: How about a custom M4A1 with an underslung XM-26 MASS?

Finished the last SMGs.  I like the P90, but don't care much for the Uzi or the Skorpion.  They're not bad, but I don't like shapes that I got stuck with.  They're both tall, short weapons, which doesn't translate well when given a limited number of pixels to work with.  Oh well, I still think they look fine, and the P90 balances it out.

It fires ammo that's something betwen rifle ammo and pistol ammo (It's 5.8x28 as I good remember). Newer seen it called rifle. Everywere it's called smg. :)

It's referred to nowadays as a PDW (personal defense weapon) I think.  In the game, it's classified as an SMG.
Title: Re: Call of Duty 4 Concept (Skorpions, Mini-Uzis, and P90s)
Post by: Espadon on March 03, 2008, 04:41:41 pm
Correct, the P90 is considered a PDW. As for the definition of PDW,

Quote from: Wikipedia, article "PDW"
A personal defense weapon (often abbreviated PDW) is a compact firearm with increased range and better armor penetrating capabilities than a pistol, machine pistol, or submachine gun, while being smaller than a full-sized assault rifle or carbine. PDWs otherwise share many of the characteristics of submachine guns and are often classified as such, though they utilize armor-piercing ammunition which makes them more effective, forming a sort of assault rifle/carbine/submachine gun hybrid

Due to the fact that PDWs generally fire small-caliber rounds and are usually quite compact, few people seem to try to make a distinction between PDWs and SMGs.
Title: Re: Call of Duty 4 Concept (Skorpions, Mini-Uzis, and P90s)
Post by: PaFel on March 04, 2008, 02:21:57 am
Ok. But most of PDW's are SMG's eg.: MP5K PDW, MP7, Hk UMP.

Shotguns are not fun guns.  They have very little detail but have odd shapes and proportions.  Still, they had to be done.  Not terrible, but a bit uninspired.
Title: Re: Call of Duty 4 Concept (W1200s and M1014s)
Post by: gunit565656 on March 18, 2008, 08:37:10 pm
Um.. The HK UMP is not an PDW because it fires the .45 ACP.  Also (can't remember where i heard this) the definition of a PDW is the caliber of the ammo is bigger than a pistol but smaller than a rifle.
Title: Re: Call of Duty 4 Concept (W1200s and M1014s)

Isn't that what he said?  Also, please take all PDW related discussion elsewhere, although I appreciate the needless bump.

There's a slight difference between caliber and velocity and type of bullet. But yes, back on topic; are there any more guns on the way?

And RPG-7, FGM-148 Javelin, FIM-92 Stinger. Man, if the Jav can be modded to be like the real one...

I finished two out of the three LMGs and I'm pretty satisfied with both of them.  I especially like the RPD, it's one of the brighter guns I've done which really makes it pop I think.  I used color correction on a lot of these (great graphicsgale feature) which helps make them more closely resemble their in game hues.  Also, I fixed the skorpion a bit.  I don't have a comparison image but I think it looks better and cleaner now.

Done with all the guns already?!!!
The guns are all sexy.

Maybe you can start on the interface now or do the weapon-gfx.

I can't tell if I should envy you or love you. It'll probably be easier to love you.
I LOVE YOU! Damn, that is some sweet anti-aliasing.

Anyway, if you want, you can make me work on developing a new Soldat mod config program in Java. I'll need to find some way to scan for file names, but I can copy files and make a GUI.

i hope you include sfx and weapons-gfx in the final package...if you could package it with one of those mod config progs that would be even better (for selecting weapons, ex m4 silenced or m4 red dot to show up in interface in game)

love how it's turning out, been waiting for a cod4 mod for awhile now.

oh yeah, for weapon-gfx, if you could make the guns as distinct as possible, that would ensure its longevity in it's usefulness as a replacement for normal soldat gfx.  it's extremely important to me to be able to tell the difference between the guns, although i understand it can be difficult when guns in general are pretty monochrome.

a problem with most mods ive encountered is that its difficult to tell the difference between guns because they have similar colors and sizes, so i end up getting killed by someone who i thought had a different weapon.

edit: hows the progress? i hope you add the metal ping sound for headshots and the sound cod4 uses for hits, that would be awesome.

Now, I know I'll get my balls slapped off for nerco'ing this thread, but seriously, Papasurf, can you release this? And about the knife, how are you going to get a screen shot if a melee of it is just a white blur?

Stasi, watch what you say, because in CoD there is golden 'camo' / skin for some weapons i think
Title: Re: Call of Duty 4 Concept (Primaries Complete)
Post by: psyl3ntshad0w on May 04, 2008, 05:54:00 pm
yeah gold camo is unlocked for those 5 weapons after doing all their respective class challenges...

ex. you do all the assault rifle challenges, you get gold ak skin

I swear I need to find some way to get a good manip program onto your hard disk so you can be free from those colored background panels.

RPG-7 moved up one pixel so the warhead doesn't mush so much with the text.

Nothing aside from c&p'ing the pictures and removing the backgrounds.

Considering that this has been here for over 4-5 months, this should be a good mod.

You cant have perfect quality by simply removing the background, the outlines are Anti-Aliased so they are actually blended in and fused with the outline :P  you could draw black outlines on them with a pencil tool, thats all you can do
