MODERN SPECIAL FORCES MOD
Under Construction

Long time ago I started making Modern Special Forces mod, a modern weapons based mod. And it's my first mod. Now I'm near to finish it and I need some opinion about my weapons. Because I'm not very content with everything.

Some weapons need more color and shading, but otherwise I was very positively surprised. There are not a lot of newcomers who actually make something good-looking. First time I come here in 2 weeks and I instantly found something iteresting ^^

XM25 - the only weapon that looks good. Rest is medium quality. More shading and they would look good.

I really like that AT4... but some of those weapons rememebrs to me to other modder's weapons, like the XM25 (Tahel's bow in Land Warrior)  or the MP7 from Dairy's BF2 Mod... they just look like i'm not saying that they are, i need to see it sure

If is that one Milkor, is a 6 round grenade launcher. And don't add those bullets on interface guns, or just do it as variant.

Can you shade a little bit more the clip of the S.A.W?

I'd say they all need more work, but the current state is not bad at all. Their forms are mostly very good, and the overall layout does not have any problems. Remember: You can always improve.

For example, the Steyr Scout is a bit too dark and G36 needs a more "metallic" shading imo. They are both good looking, but could be better.

I've always liked working on a project a lot more than actually finishing it (This shows: 4 incomplete and 0 complete mods ;))

I know it's mostly plastic and I didn't mean to make it look like it was made from metal. The correct term would've been "add more contrast". I did not chose my words well.

I think they still need more contrast. They were just examples, not the only weapons that needed upgrading. You've got the outlines and image-bases right, but you need to put more attention in coloring ;)

Remove the green background. You are saving the images as png afterall and it will help us see the guns better(at least I do).

Use more contrast on the darker guns they will look better IMO.

As you can see I have many problems in making scopes that's why there is no scope on Steyr Scout.
How could I make the L96 scope better?

J, not many people reply on the mod announcement pages, as I sorely found out. I like your mods though... They remind me of some decent work not seen here in a while... and I don't even produce mods this appealing :)

I have found it very difficult putting scopes on small weapons and still have white space underneath.  I suppose it depends on what the image requires, but if you want a realistic scope, have it on a larger gun.

Tavor haves too man black lines, try to use similar colours to the weapon, the same with A3

Neither. A few people don't admire FMBM's style of using single-pixel-width details, that's all. In the end it's all at your discretion; FMBM turned out some really successful mods anyways.

Uh... some countries still use FN FALs as far as I know.

EDIT: Aww, damn... why'd you get rid of it? Can I get a link to the FN FAL picture? I wanna see what it looks like.

Everything looks pretty good to me. A few things to mention though... That MP5/10 you have is an A5, not an A3, unless they gave completely different #s to the 10mm versions of MP5.

 Jackhammer and USAS are both shotguns, what's the HK21 doing in the same category??

What is a B&T MP9? Looks like a Steyr TMP to me.

Also, your HK53 is too short. It looks like an MP5.

well FN FAL is too old for this mod I think and furthermore it was just added when I had only a few weapons done and didn't know what to add moreover I didn't like the shading.

With Mp5/10 and HK53 you're right I think. I'm gonna fix that.

Jackhammer and HK21 are in the minigun category coz I wanted to make some different weapons for people who like auto shotguns and people who like machineguns more.

B&T MP9 is a modern over-worked version of the Steyr TMP by the swiss company Br├╝gger & Thomet which bought all the letters patents for this gun.

OH shit, my bad... I had the HK 33 and HK53 confused... It was fine the way it was the first time... I just double checked modern firearms, and apparently the HK53 is only 10mm longer than the MP5... I apologize.

Your FAL looks good, except it's technically not a FAL. it's a carbine version modified by USA. I woudln't mind seeing a FAL, but it's your mod, and you've aleady changed it.

Yes it's HK53 but I'll keep the newer about 2 pixels longer version coz I like it more.

But I won't add the FAL again it was just a transitional added weapon 'till I had added better and more modern weapons.

If it's going to be used as an assault rifle... How about that? It's decently accurate and powerful, but it's difficult to control in long bursts, kind of like a real one... so you can't just spray like a crazy bastard and get all kinds of kills.

Hm... I think I'm gonna add this one as a ruger replacement but the assault rifle idea isn't bad too... but I guess it would be better as some kind of tactical sniper rifle coz of the scope and the bipod.

And about the M14-EBR, I'm not gonna add this weapon coz I tried to make one for several times and I failured already at the outlines. This gun is just so ugly that I can't make it suitable for Soldat.

With pixel art, "less is more," and a lot of details shouldn't be done with outlines since you're working with indivisible┬  ... pixels. So you should square off the back like the 416 but use a value gradation to cause an illusion of the bulging stock. If you've ever seen that illusion trick showing a white square and a black square with the white square looking 'bigger' even though they're both the exact same size... yeah, it's based on that principle. With that said, you've emphasized the iron sight way too much. You should look for what makes the gun feel the way it does [make it 'feel' like a Berretta] instead of trying to include every little itsy bitsy detail because you're going to get ~mediocre results [with your current method].

I think your guns look perfectly fine. In fact, they look better than most I've seen around here. One thing you might want to change though, on the Heckler and Koch retractable stocks, the piece that actually touches your shoulder isn't supposed to be flat.

Magus86, Go have a look at REAL shapes of REAL firearms, sure... They will look like they have all the bits but those bits just make the gun look to big.

Didn't say they were bad at all. Just consider it a friendly exchange of experiences from a fellow modder. Most are pretty nice anyways [did I say any of them needed total reworking?] but of course everyone can expect to become even better as time goes by -- don't rush it, but I think there's no such thing as 'the last word' when it comes to quality. :D

Yes I'll have to over-work the AA-12 but I think I won't change the MAG-7. I like it.

And about the configurator, yes I'm gonna use ivan's configurator but a friend of mine will change it a so it works with Soldat 1.4.2 (or mayby 1.5) and add a Rambo Bow- and a Flamer-slot instead of the gosteks-slot.

DAO mag lighting is wonky. I mean, you can get away with it on the Bene, but having the light look as if it's coming directly from the side on the DAO mag makes it look, well, it says to me you're inexperienced with how lighting works [you can keep it like that and most people won't notice it, so don't worry too much]. Lighting usually comes from the top, so you might want to shift the highlights up a bit. Overall you just want to make the shading suggest where the light's coming from.

Just a tip to maybe mull over.

I dunno if its just me but somehow the jagged non anti-aliased stock comming out of the back adds to the shape ;\

I like the new sniper rifles aswell ;o┬  but they need more inside detail. the shading contrast aint very good

If I were you I'd do something about that steyr.  Doesnt look right

Seriousley re-do that steyr..

The buttstock is fine but the barrel starts just in front of where the handle is, and the holding grip thing is right infront of the handle.┬  also you need to tilt the joints on the scope backwards, and move the front of the scope so its directly over the front joint and the back end overlaps the back joint.┬  make the top of the body flat, there is no need to raise the scope there.┬  and the handle, make it kind of curve backwards at the very top.┬  ┬ hope that all makes sense.

the PSG1 - fix the magazine.┬  (the line where the gun meets the magazine should be straight or lenghten the mag by 1 pixel)

Yes but everything becomes relative when it comes down to Soldat-sized. While the mag is not straight, you need to make it straighter so it resembles the overall characteristic more.

as for the G36, I'd probably shorten it a bit so you could lower the thing on the top (by 1px) cause it looks slightly larger than it should.  either that or make the rest of the body larger to fit it..  but this is realy subliminal.

There's a long period of time I didn't add anything since the last few weapons because I used this time to make the weapons and didn't upload them.
Most of the work I'm uploading now was allready done for a week or so.
If I wasn't doing this so fast then it would take years to finish this mod and btw I don't think that there such a thing as the "perfect mod"
And why can't I fix the weapons after I uploaded them?

Btw there are many similar weapons eg I made 6 different MP5 type weapons that's not much work when one of them is done
