I have seen lately that alot of people simply don't spell correctly and barely know grammer.
I think a good idea to solve this problem is to get a spell check mod* for this forum.
discuss...
* please note, when I say mod I do not mean Moderator. I mean mod, like a php script that autospellchecks, or a javascript that checks while you are typeing.

I'd rather that the members just learn a bit more, become less lazy, and the problem fixes itself
-
An' waddabout me who whatfor types understandably, but not always in propper english?
-
I dont think he means automaticly.. But a button or something that will correct your misspellings ?
I'd have to agree with Flies, if you dont know english.. learn it xD (not that MY english is so super)

How about, if someone says the string " u " (that's space yoo space), they get a warning. Same with " ur ", " plz ", " sry ", and some others.
Grammar nazis to the rescue!

Grammar Nazis (I guess the correct term would be NAZI party members, but it's slang, is it not?) to the rescue!
:P
I support it. Either that or a minimum intelligence quotient requirement.

I like being able to identify the dips with ease...
However, a spell checker would be nice as long as it's not automatic, and not one of those sh*tty ones that always catch contractions.

To be honest, I think some of us are taking this SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar) thing a bit too seriously. I never even thought anyone cared about shortcuts like u, thx, plz, sry etc etc... until this whole thing exploded into these forums. I can't read 3 or 4 different topics in a row, without reading a spam about someone's bad spelling or whatever... (Yes, I do it too, but only because everyone else seems to be).
We're all intelligent enough to understand what these people are saying, and these shortcuts have been used for years, so can't we just tolerate it, like it's been tolerated for so long before?
Not that I'd mind if some sort of system was introduced, but to be honest, I think it's a bit over the top.

Lol its "grammar"
I don't mind if you misspell one or two words, as long as I know what you are trying to say,
just don't pull a ds_dude \/ \/

I was also thinking that 'alot' should be two words... correct me if I'm wrong. ???
Well, at least it proves his point... hehe.

How about we just throw all the grammar Nazis into a fire and let the rest sort itself out? Half of them make grammatical/spelling mistakes themselves, and the rest of them are just annoying and unneeded. I also think some of them do it just for the postcount.
inn other wordz; there usless.

I think having a spell checker is a good idea. And maybe a script that requires people to actually use punctuation in general at least once before they are allowed to post.
Off-topic: Is this just going to become a grammar/spelling-correction topic soon?
-
Well Firefox (and I'm sure Opera has an equivelant) has a spell-checking extention, you could always use that.
EDIT: I think this is the Firefox extention (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1022/).
-
Spell check is a default feature of SMF, although I don't think many people would ever use it. But I'm wondering why it was disabled at all.

it is on and in this version, but it says "may not work on all servers."
I will look into what needs to be done to get it to work

I recompiled php with the necessary changes for the spell-checker to work, enjoy ;)

Edit, it works!
