Everywhere in Soldat I see, I see a handily quick separation between the newbs, noobs and the pros. But nothing more complicated than said skill system ever arises, and out of sheer boredom about what to do with Soldat.
What we know is that there is a variation of a player's skill in Soldatering, and that some skills cannot be put into one of the less definitive categories I mentioned before. Here I present you the levels:
1st Level: A boring newbie to play with or against. They will use jets and fire weapons separately, not together. Will often stop, shoot, and miss their targets. Slow movement is apparent in all starting Soldat players. Will not notice predator mode.
2nd Level: A step up from the newbie level, but not much more skilled, although movement skills has increased. Not pro. Any average Soldat players, or old pros at their weakest, can take care of these second levelers. Will notice predator mode after invisible player has repeated misses.
3rd Level: Almost quite pro. Movement skills and aiming skills are a lot better, and these guys can fire guns and jet at the same time. Still not strategically intelligent, as CTF may be quick to point that weakness out. This is your average Soldat Joe. Will notice predator mode, but will sometimes miss.
4th Level: Your typical pro. They'll usually have high scores, or good K:D in-game. CTF and HTF skills would be smoother now. Speed and power is dominant in most typical pros. 3rd-levelers will have a pretty difficult time taking them out. Players in pred mode will be noticed and shot down before the invisible guys take their first shot.
5th Level: Middle-level pro. This is the part where guys of this level can easily deal with two enemies at once, and still cap the flag. Players level 2 and lower would be sure to avoid them if they value their own lives. Invisible players are no problem for them.
6th Level: Higher-ranking pro. You'll see a lot of these people in very skilled Soldat clans, and they'll kick, punch, nade, burn, and gun their way through weaker Soldat players to get the big title. Unless you have backup teammates [in CTF], do not approach these guys. Will notice predator mode amid several explosions.
7th Level: Highest possible level for a pro to get, before they ascend to the Godlike level. Nades will not work, autos and sniper guns will not work, and a whole bunch of people after one 7th leveler would need a bunch of bodybags to follow soon afterwards. But they are, after all, human, and can be taken down with impunity. Players in predator mode will stick out like a sore thumb.
8th Level: God. Soldat skills at their finest, and also the height of the moment that you need to quit Soldat and get a life. You can take down these guys, if they actually really exist, with a couple of level 7 players teamed up against the 8th-leveler.
9th Level: Unheard of. Hackers with many arsenal of hack tools at their disposal will lurk on this level, but they're dishonest players. Honest ones are nowhere to be found in this category.

Nice level table ;D
I'm on the 3lvl :P
"Almost quite pro" 8)
-
Not a bad table, but you describe the level gaps as pretty huge. True that there is one big break between casual players and clanners/gatherers, but after that the next big leap in skill is with the best clans ( check top 20 of SCTFL ). Otherwise everyone can have a bad day, or others can have better days when they can take on even stronger players or get mauled by 'lowly' enemies. And then we haven't talked about how most people tend to have a 'weak' map, where they'll just play whack, no matter what (:
-
It's possible that 6th and 7th players will be very good in any default map, or any given new maps that are really good. Those are the guys that can cope with tight spaces and huge spaces, as clearly demonstrated in ctf_Ash, where the 'fortresses' provide a sanctuary for spawners and other people that like to take advantage of tight places, and the wide-open space around the fort is reserved for cappers and people that are comfortable with wide spaces.
-
Yay ;D
I'm somewhere between lvl 7 and lvl 8 ;D
but then again I play in realistic only.
-
Level 6 skill for me. I rarely ever find a good challenge.
-
Yay ;D

Looking at SRL, and knowing that you don't clan... you might want to re-think that ;x
By that, I'd be suited as a level 6, a seven on the better days or when hitting 'the zone'.
-
That's a pretty accurate table.
I'd say I'm a level 7 - 8 when it comes to non-realism CTF... but that's pretty much all I play.
-

Why? I've never had problems with clan players. In realistic CTF i'm normally taking down four players each time. But I play in public but clan players are just like everybody else in skill on pubs.
btw don't look at the stats on LRS..I often fooled around like killing myself with the knife and m79 several matches.
-
i'm around 4 or 5
if i really have a good day, then 5~76
-
5-7, I am a clanner/gathertard but I at least know where I am at. Demonic has it right. This topic will end up making me laugh my ass off.
-
blackdevil, it's not the clan tag which makes people good. If I join a public, it's like playing botmatch, relentless of the enemy being Soldier_pl or [1337] soldier_pl. The very best of each gamemode form a tight clan community: in normal mode this means around 12-16 clans ( with there being several 'tiers' in this group aswell ), in realistic there are less. To name them, WG have the best players, then come DN, rsk, SadEX... anyone else would probably hit six at best on Blue Ninja's chart.
-
That's the thing. If I was to meet a good clan member it wouldn't matter because they can only play in organised team matches. It isn't really showing their skill real IMO.
Of course I can't really rate myself but I've been playing for a looooooong time and I have gotten very good if I may say it myself. I haven't bothered in trying to join a clan as I don't feel like wasting my time too much on the game.
-
8
-
Trust me, it's not about organised matches. Soldat is still a simple, 2D game, and us clanners don't rely on our teammates that much, we're good because we can take on multiple people on our skill level, which means no mercy for a common pubber. There seems to be some mystification on how clan wars go... it's just ctf, with every man for himself, except that you know what to expect from your teammates and it takes much more effort to get the flag than in any public server.
-
I left out the part about noticing players in predator mode. Added it to the chart.
Long ago, my skill level was 6. I blew enemies away, dodged nades, and had the strategic genius to take out the whole team neatly and systematically, and the intuition to pick the route with the least enemy resistance.
Now, thanks to major differences in the soldat versions and my being out of pratice in some REAL servers, my skill level is 3. Sunk like a brick.
-
OK, Demonic. I maybe ain't so good then.
But If you ever feel like taking on a newb then come and ask me ;)
-
I'm probably the 3rd one. You could also have mentioned how long approximately a player should play the game to reach certain level.
-
Really nice ranking!
I guess im a lvl 4 guy, or something down there..
-
Soldat is in it's concept and idea, not a roleplaying game, and it really shouldn't matter how long you should be playing the game to earn some experience points. Experience does not come from time, it comes from the mistakes you made, the mistakes other people made, and the speed of your learning abilities.
So, in theory, a guy who has really quick learning skills and yet never played Soldat in his entire life, picks up the game, learns at a fast pace, he might supposedly reach level six before the year is up.
-
4-7, depending on how seriously I want to play at a given time.
-
im sumwhere between a 3 or a 4..depends on the alignment of the planets bt who cares about that..the chart is kinda irrelevant bc like demonic(coolest guy evar) said ppl have weak maps and ppl r better with certain weapons and r good with different tactics with thier strengths and weaknesses...like my GREATEST weakness...friggin m79..i cant dodge it or bink it...so im a little out of luck sense i use hk or spas. nice chart though
-
5-6, just that I don't get paid :-\
-
Well, not considering my extreme lag 90% of the time from my elite dial-up... i'd say im about a 4-5... though i do have some level 3 moments from time to time.
-
Pretty sure I'm a 10. Guaranteed
-
somewhere between 1-1
-
i'm somewhere around -1 - 0 =(
-
Im prolly a 4 or 5 D: when I actually concentrate (which is hardly ever)

Right, playing pubs sux. It's so easy...

Lol. :D (oh, in 1.5 where Steyr is $#@!, you'll pwn with your ak :P )
I'd say that I'm around 6 - 5.
-
These are a bit messed up... the situations in them don't entirely make sense. That being said I guess I am a 4 or 6 on a good day. Definetly not 5.
-
I'm probably somewhere between 4 and 5, not 6 since I don't do clans.
-
Stupid quotes (not working) on a Mac.. well Safari browser anyway.. I guess I'm same as KorrupT, level 4 - 5 but definitely also have my level 3 moments/days. At least my connection is faster.. but not by much because it's Shaw Cable.
I also don't think I will ever go beyond level 5 simply because I am more of a casual Soldateer due to my busy lifestyle.
-

It's not all about intelligence and understanding the game though, but its a very big piece. You wont be the soldat campion if u aint able to hit ur targets. And thats the thing that needs the most traning and experience.
-
I was 8, used to pwn at TW. And like it said 'get a life'
-
Nice table Blue-Ninja, a great read and very specific descriptions for each skill level.
-
7-8
-
Ok I'm serious, 2 - 3, 1 if I'm having a bad day, tired, or not concentrating.
-
im 8
*strokes my long e-penis*
-
Judging from the descriptions I'd probably say 5; I'm more of a casual player.
-
5th level i think...
-
I'm 4-5.
-
I am D... Like Drizzy ;D. Good but not much. I have the guts to stand face to face with bests players even if I know that I will die but I am not giving up until he dies. And I am one that developed LAW and than Steyr levative techniq :P. Although I am modest: even if I say "I am a lawgiver" or other stuff like that I don't say it serious (like most of things that I say)...
And remember that real "Teh Pro" is the player that plays for fun (Soldat isn't his life), sometimes helps others (weakers or newbies if they don't know what to do), is kind etc. I am trying stick as much as possible to that definition.
-
just to suggest, I'd like to see some kind of number on the ranks. like:
Level 1: [Insert Text Here]
Points: 1
Level 2: [Insert Text Here]
points 1.5
Level 3: [Insert Text Here]
Points: 2
as in here a level 2 can take on 1.5 (own points)/1 (opponent points) = 1.5 Level ones
example: how many Level 1 can a Level 3 take on? 2/1 = 2
would make it easier to judge :).
-
Some people here think way too much of themselves ::)
Lately I am 6 I guess.
-
I gotta agree with Outcast, and I'm 6 as well.
-
I'd say 4-5.
-
In my good days, I'd go anywhere from 3-5. It was really depending on what sort of mental state I was in, but there were times where I couldn't score a hit to save my life, and others where I was damn near untouchable. Hitting five was something of a rarity, but it would happen. Only in trenchwar, mind you.
-
Hm, I'd say 5-6 for me.
The predator part is...wierd...Once you get good enough, hopefully you aren't still playing in servers with bonuses enabled.
-
i saw on youtube about the "soldat veterans". would thay be in like lvl7~9?
-
Being a "vet" don't determine if ya suck or not; it's all about being long in the runnin'.
-
5-6 on my good days.
-
In the veteran clips on youtube, it's pretty obvious that they cut out almost all the parts where the REAL players die, and all the parts about where the miss people with knife, law, etc., etc....
-
im an lvl 8

CTF is most played gamemode = CTF skills matter more than just killing the opponent.
Who cares about how much kills you have; helping your team is much more important than camping around with barret.
-
Lol some descriptions are overdone.. e.g. lvl 7:
"and a whole bunch of people after one 7th leveler would need a bunch of bodybags to follow soon afterwards."
You have to be a total noob to not be able to beat someone 3v1..

obviously you've never played R/S.
-
I'd rate myself with number four, since I don't want to overrate myself. ;)
-
Ziem is right, TW, r/s, realistic, public players who's never played a CTF gather or clan war shouldn't go that high.
I was about 6th level, i had a month break, now i won't even bother to play gathers because I will only destroy the game - arround 3 or 4.
-
I don't think hardly anyone here has any idea where they rank on that fucked up scale.
-
I'm even worse than newbies, I'm a Zero Level. :(
Zero Level:
A cowardly player who strives his best to survive no matter how shameful his tactics are perceived. Hated by everyone, "fecking die already!!", constantly accused of hacking, and gets kicked out of games very frequently. His only goal is to one day end a game with No.1 and zero deaths.
-
Yeah, such as those who rank themselves 8 and higher, especially a ridiculous 10. :|
-
Been a 4-5 lately!
-
xurich, you are the (self-proclaimed) best player ever...don't feel you have to take it easy on those around you!
-
Thanks for the build-up, man.
-
Yeah, such as those who rank themselves 8 and higher, especially a ridiculous 10. :|
oh yeah? how come
-
I'd say i'm somewere around lvl 4.
-
Most of us dream of becoming lvl 8... XD

Thats what you get for trying to make a name for yourself in pubs.
-

He's also the best-worst player. He has to keep that title too man ;<
-
I'm Level 3 lol.
I phail.
-
5... sometimes I suck, sometimes I PWN.

I do have my crazy moments, but I'm no legend. As you grow older you realize that name, reputation, levels, it really doesn't matter. It actually clouds us from really enjoying the game, from truly having fun and being able to laugh at our own silly stupid mistakes. It's a game, don't take it so seriously. I prefer pubs because there's more people, it's convenient, and it's more fun when I'm not fecking running like a little girl from a bunch of well aimed autos/minimi's.  ;D

I agree. Sure, I want to play good and win. But what's the most important thing in the game?
It's to have fun.
I play the game to contribute to the game as a player. I don't give a crap whether I play well or not, as long as the other players and I enjoy ourselves and I provide a good challenge or greater fun to other players.
-
I joined clans for the fact that I can play organised matches.
-
I joined clans for the fact that I can play organised matches.
You need a good clan to play a good match. When everyone in my team is running around just to kill someone, game sucks. I expect teamplay from my clan. (That's why I'm clanless atm xD)
But... as a clanless player you still can play gathers ;)
BTW. Most ppl who "own" in publics are #@$% in gathers/clanwars.
-
I like your table Blue Ninja it kind of reminds me of Bleach. Menos, Gillian Arrancar ect ;D
-
6 or maybe 7 sometimes. Funny seeing all the randomers think they are like 8 or whatever :/
Just read that ouchy n outcast thought they were 6 so there is no chance im a 7 D:
-
I jump from 7th to 6th and sometimes from 6th to 7th... depends on what kind of day im having... (sometimes i go lower than that)
-
lvl 9
pls dnt ban me
Damn you! I was going to point out that nobody had yet said they were level 9
You've ruined it for everyone.
-
"Igonorance is bliss" [retard]
-
Well my lvl is over 9,000 :D
-
Level 2, Level 3 for me. Considering how long I've been playing for, thats bad xD
-
Well my lvl is over 9,000 :D
The numbers have no significant value of how good you are besides representing its respective description.
-
Well my lvl is over 9,000 :D
ur pwr lvl is ovr 9 thousaaaaandd?!??!
-
DBZ? Anyway, I'm either 5 or 7 depending on my mood or mode. Level 5 on deathmatch, realistic. Level 6 or 7ish on CTF and HTF.
-
i just noticed, my level was 6~7 on one of the CTF server. what was it, Splash Game and then some thing then 100. i pwnt many people. and in 20 min, i can raise myself to rank one
-
id call myself lvl 6 or 7. i can pwn those gods. /pwn. not hard
-
0
ORLY?
Thats what i thought
-
I now enjoy fighting against level 4 or so players. :)
-
Between levels 5-6 for playing, between levels 2-3 for predator noticing which I don't really think should count for 'skill level', since I rarely play with bonuses :/
-
If there were a level between 6 and 7 I'd put myself there. So 6.5 I guess (When Im not having an off day)
-
lol @ all the random noobs puttin' them selfs at 6-7.
I'd be a 4.5 imo.
-
Two years of playing = Rank 3.5
Crap.
-
Im a level 5. When my ruger skills really decides to show, level 6. Because im hitting in every fucking ruger shot then, and thats quite hard to survive for other players..
-
lol @ all the random noobs puttin' them selfs at 6-7.
I'd be a 4.5 imo.
Uhh Bootz? You'd be higher than that, you know it you modest f*****t.
-
ahaha, nah not rly.. I have my days but meh :p.
-
lol @ all the random noobs puttin' them selfs at 6-7.
I'd be a 4.5 imo.
Lul. I rated myself when I was Playing TTW and i pwn, and R/S pwning.
-
I'd be around 4... got there not long ago though
-
lol @ all the random noobs puttin' them selfs at 6-7.
With over 5 years of soldat experience that is what to be expected.
-
There should be a ranking system in soldat like in BF2 :) Never gonna happend but you can dream. :D
-
You have the k/d ratio and the amount of gold medals you have to tell of your skill ;P
-
lol @ all the random noobs puttin' them selfs at 6-7.
With over 5 years of soldat experience that is what to be expected.
Im talking about the ppl who have been playing for 6-10 months.
-
well, im 5-7, sometimes less on bad days, which, finally are less and less. Im much more consistant too. That has alot to do with things. And I did get a lol outta some of these people rating 6-7. Because ive played with quite a few of these people, and I would rate them with about 3s, sometimes less. I dont feel like mentioning any name, to avoid flame wars.
-
Although this is not a bad attempt of classification, I cannot help but to say that there is a bit off with your level system. Priority with the ability to act upon it is important too. I say that there is something off with it because, if your skill system is correct then on days I tend to waver between 3 and 7 not always by choice. And this is not entirely dependent upon who I am playing with or against. Rarely to almost never on 8 and I purposely, at times play the part of 1 and 2.
I guess the skill system still needs work. But for the moment, I guess that this will do?
-
7-8 in pubs :D
5-6 at cws,gathas
-
7-8 in pubs :D
5-6 at cws,gathas
?
Your skill is always the same.
And owning noobs on publics means nothing.
-
I'd say I'm stuck between 3 and 4. I just need some practice, I haven't played much at all recently.
