Title: access violation at address 0053da72 in module 'soldat.exe' read of address
Post by: Crazy Ninja on May 03, 2008, 03:02:47 am
Hey guys, I know there was a thread created about this just recently and was locked because the guy was thought to be hacking the game which supposedly created the problem. While the guy might have been hacking the game, I am not hacking and I'm getting the same problem that he has. (I don't really play online even)
The error doesn't come up at all during gameplay. After every match though, instead of showing the scoreboard and everyone's stats the pop-up comes up with the error. After I hit OK a few times, it will just skip the scoreboard and go right into the next match. While this problem doesn't take away from the actual gameplay, it's become really annoying and won't stop. The problem started after I had downloaded the patch for v1.4.2. I tried reinstalling it and that still didn't get rid of it, so really any help you guys could give me would be great.

Try messing with your font settings for Soldat. You can find them in your Soldat folder, under .\Txt\fonts.ini

Yep, didn't work.

Try messing with your font settings for Soldat. You can find them in your Soldat folder, under .\Txt\fonts.ini

And that's where the problem was. I was able to compare the fonts.ini file to the fonts-help text file that was also in there and was able match them up and correct the wrong number. Works good now, thanks for the tip SpiltCoffee.

No problems. Although the number isn't really wrong, it just happens to be that, for some reason or another, the bigger fonts take longer to draw and end up causing the program to do something funky and cause an AV.

Try making some of the numbers smaller, specifically the value FontConsoleSize.

I recently figured out a way that worked for me to get rid of these access violations.  I have the resolution set at 640x480 and used the resized the window to 100%.  Maybe it only works for me but you can give it a try.

i don't know why this happens to some people but it's really annoying when you're trying to play the game for the first time and you can't, even when the solution is changing some fonts in a text file.

i mean, most of the time the person wont bother in trying to find the problem and instead will uninstall the game before even play it.

hopefully new versions has this fixed (or with a font number that works for most of the people).

thank god i pursue instead of uninstalling.

Okay, first off, turn off full screen, and enable resize at 100%, using the settings that were given to you (they're on the first page), and it should work.
It seems to not be able to handle the text when it is resized, so Soldat freaks out.

I have that problem after playing Soldat for +3 hours. I have reinstalled Soldat (more times than that other person that did 5 times), changed my font, tried a patch install (installed 1.4.2 first then installed patch to 1.5.0), some of the other things mentioned in this forum. AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!

Before I get that message, my keys suddenly don't work and sometimes my screen goes partially white. It is NOT an ATI card problem cause I'm using a NVIDIA 8600GT 1GB graphics card.

Does anyone know how to stop these initial problems?

My guess would be either outdated video drivers or an overheating video card \ CPU (as for the screen going partially white).

Umm, most of these acces violations, especially the .dll ones come from screwed reg keys. The the txt file thing helps most people, just saying though, dont get cracked reg keys its bad news 100% of the time.
This coming from trying to help a friend who downloaded one. He had to do something to do with his system i dunno what but i think he lost ALOT of data

If a bunch of people just started getting the same error at once, it's probably a buggy BE update that caused it.

Don't necropost and read the above replies, and use the search function.

Thanks, after trying several other methods this setup ended up fixing the problem enough to play the game. However i was able to make the FontHeightScale to 70% without getting the error.. Anyways thanks for all your guy's help and keep up the great work.   :)

My guess would be either outdated video drivers or an overheating video card \ CPU (as for the screen going partially white).

The graphics card has excellent cooling and all of the latest drivers for it. The CPU is only 1 year old and it has been serviced twice due to RAM Errors. DirectX drivers are also up to date. Lets hope this issue gets better when I try to install Nvidia CUDA Drivers to improve the performance of the Graphics Card and the system itself.

All the errors are becoming worse as it is nearly impossible to start soldat without any errors.

I've played soldat since 1.2 and I've never ever had this before, but today I finally got there "access violation" error messages... in menu...
If it really is related to some font.ini values the question is... how bad can the code be if it fails in font loading :D

From my experience, and how you're describing it (ChronoSniper777) - a line is too long to be displayed. May depend on your killer/victim's name length.

If the line is in the console, first, you get AV messages until it moves upwards out of your screen. If you press T or / then, the whole console is shown, so it appears again - giving you AV messages until it totally disappears, which can take a while.

A tip for now: After the AV's disappeared the first time, don't press T or /, but use F5 a lot of times - until you're sure the line is gone from the console. Then you can talk again.

I changed my fonts as well, made FontConsoleSize a bit smaller. The values differ probably from system to system.

That sounds like an exploitable security hole.

Not sure if this isn't fixed already. Didn't see anything like that on the bugtracker  (http://bugs.soldat.pl) so i guess it's fixed (if it's not on the bugtracker it doesn't exist). If someone still gets it. I guess then it has to be on the bugtracker.

hi.

apparently, whenever people try to play ctf_Dropdown on our freshly updated 164 gather servers, they randomly receive loads of access violation popups like in the screenshot.
So far, Ive only heard of this issue on this particular map - but from a number of people.

I haven't had time to test or mess around with this yet, so I cant give any more helpful info at this point. Still, any ideas? Is this just our servers or a general problem?

This bug happens to most or even all of the players after couple of minutes of playing Dropdown. I think it's the only map where this bug occurs.

Single player games look fine though.

I'm getting this on ctf_dropdown too.

I'm running my own private server to play with friends over lan. I'm using a fresh install and running the regular server.

I have soldat running in 1366 x 768 resolution and is registered (im also using Dead Honeys Mod Pack). My friend is running 1366 x 768 unregistered. Having registered seems to change the text and interface size yet we still both get the error. I have tried to change text size as has been recommended previously but it didn't work. I have never gotten this error before.

Here are screenshots of both registered, unregistered and my soldat.ini.

I've had this bug happen myself, both online and offline on ctf_Dropdown. We'll look into it.

For now you should remove Dropdown from your map pool until we release a fix.
