Title: Alpha drops the ball (Waypointing question)
Post by: CrashMan on May 13, 2008, 02:28:14 am
I was experimenting with waypoints on inf_Rise (I made a seperate file for my experimentations. In the new file, I completely erased all waypoints and made my own from scratch.), and I managed to get Alpha team to scale the tower and up to the white flag.

Now, what I want to know is if bots will ignore waypoints once they come within a certain distance of the white flag, like they do when grenade kits or bonus items are around? Because that's certainly what Alpha bots seemed to do in my test-plays.

As you can see, I have my waypoints set up so the bots fly up to the top, go right, then walk left along the platform to score.

They'll get to that waypoint that tells them to jump, fly up a little bit and go get stuck on that slope next to the flag for no fathomable reason.

I'm guessing it's something to do with the bot ignoring waypoints and going "FLAG FLAG FLAG! GO TO FLAG!"?

The alpha flagcarrier is lured to the white flag. Bravo is only lured if the black flag is taken, from what I can remember.

Yes, your presumption is correct. You need to give them more of a vertical boost so they don't delude themselves too soon and get stuck before they have enough vertical space to get past the ledge. Put the jump wypt. closer to the ground one so they gain more velocity (by jetting earlier). You don't need the "Jet Left" wypt. either; just set "Jet." Momentum will have them drift leftwards. You might even want to help them a bit and set "Jet Right."
