Title: Weather Effects
Post by: -Zombie- on October 03, 2008, 03:32:27 am
Well i thought that it would be nice if the weather effects were behind everything, even scenery that is in the background. Becuase, say you make a map, and it's snowing or raining or whatever, it rains inside the building. It looks kinda wierd. :P

Only a minor change that will make the inside of buidings look better. I'll post a screen show too show you what it looks like.

but how the hell did you manage to get rain on the bottom floor, not the top?

I don't know, just something to do with the rain spawning and me pressing printscreen i guess :|

Seems like a valid enough suggestion. Frankly this should've been fixed some time ago. i'm gonna go ahead and support this. "F12", as your earthly peops say.

This is well understood. How can it rain inside a building?

F12.

the rain effect is just a BMP moving around, like snow/dust.

but yeah it'd be nice. but would it need a mapcode change?

Instead of that, have the rain collide with the ground, so then it wont be able to go inside the buildings.

and we would see it splash on the roof :p

f12, though i support Xxypher suggestion a bit better, because for example in bushes scenery the rain would just go behind it, which is kinda lame imo

Rain should have a random depth, which I know is an easy thing to do in C++.
But yeah, support me.
But the random depth would work good for making the game a little better, so all the rain doesn't just land infront of the scenery.

I have to agree.

It was always bothering me that when I was in a building or anywhere inside of something it was snowin'/rainin'.

F12

but, if you have a maps with polys around it., how would the rain get in the map?  it would have to be an open map.

Sure, good Idea, I'm gonna go with F12 too.

The splash on the roof sounds mad...add effects to sound splashes and make it look cool!

I have seen this topic a few times, generally is put into the "Good idea but they have better things to do bin" F12.

This has been suggested before....BY ME. xD

Only though, I suggested it in Polyworks that the scenery go in front of weather effect option be added.

Unfortunately, it seems that the weather effects is a part of the soldat game, not Polyworks.

Still....F12

I see no reason to not support this.  Simple fix and should be quick as well.

F12 to this. And making a "splashing sound" and puddles.

Good point o.-

Maps like Viet would have to have rain spawn inside the roof or something ;P

And if you listen carefully, we already have rain SFX

I was wondering about the rain not being inside maps aswell, lets just keep the rain being behind everything for now

...and puddles.
Ok now we're getting crarried away

It doesn't change the gameplay in any way... so I don't care. It won't get implemented 'cause there are a lot of things which should be done in first place.

Yeah, it's stupid, don't you think.

I agree with Xxypher that it'd be good to
have the rain collide with the ground, so then it wont be able to go inside the buildings.
but it would probably require more coding than -Zombie-'s original idea, since you must take care of this:
if you have a maps with polys around it, how would the rain get in the map?
So F12 for -Zombie-'s original idea, because its easier to do, but if devs would implement rain spawns and colliding rain with polys, I'd be delighted.

I totally agree - this should be implemented. But I very much doubt that they will like to make it for 1.5 and 1.51 is ages away from now, so I will probably be dead already when it's released ;)
