I have played Soldat for about 2 years and have found it frustrating when killed at base and having to respawn slowly when I'm right at base. Could we not respawn slower when killed further away from base and faster when dying close to base? This could also help if the opponent was stealing your flag and you were defending, in fact it helps a lot.

It does make sense, but taking enemy flag would become much harder when all enemies killed near the flag would respawn so fast.
On some maps taking the flag would become almost impossible. So I'm not sure whether I like this.

well I thought of this too but on all the maps you don't spawn right on the flags

This wouldnt work.
You dont have a 'base' defined by the map.
The only thing close would be the flag. and the flag isnt always where the spawning points are.
It is pivotal to the map design as to why you do or dont spawn at the flag.

In some maps the flags are actually hidden behind spawns. Enabling this would make flags on such maps "unstealable". (F11.)
