Title: Ye Olde Fantasy Mod (Updated: 3rd Feb 2011)

Hey Guys.
It certaintly has been a while. I have now moved house and bought myself a new gaming rig (beastly thing) and now have internet!
I will hopefully be starting the mod very soon, I just need to start from scratch! Good thing I made back ups of most of the files.

You may consider about reading your posts after writing this. Why do you announce a mod without any screens for the community to see? If you want it to be a secret you wouldn´t tell us you are going to do so ...

well, if its a medieval mod we're talking about (wink) then, i would suggest you try to put in crossbows to replace each weapon maybe like a Ballista for the M2... i know its tough to think up of the weapons but oh well :D

In fact, i did try planning up of a medieval mod something like yours, but more of a wider scale, instead of medival only crossbows and such, why not add other crossbows from other countries? like the Chinese repeating crossbow- 10 round magazine bolt, quick rate of fire, and low damage. or maybe like a pistol crossbow for DE/socom.

IF the chinese weapons were included, i could try doing some chinese bowman as added effect? Heck it could be like an Ancient Soldat Mod XD

Add also:

-spears
-stones
-burning oil
-bows (longbow, recurvebow)
-crossbows (wooden, repeating, metal)
-a sword (chainsaw), a rustical knife (knife)
-a cannon (M2)

Add different knights as gosteks, also look on the uniform of different countrys. Stepping sounds should sound like a heavy armored knight runs on stonewalls. If you need help with mapping consider asking me, I can help you with layouts and stuff. Will this map be playable for ctf or deathmatch?

Hah, yeah, that repeater bow is a great idea.

It's a cartoon fantasy mod.

I've got flame balls as the grenades (Well, magic balls that a purple).

I've got a longbow (ruger), cross bow (barrett), repeater crossbow (thanks for the idea), longsword (chainsaw) throwing knives (knife...), flamebow, musket (M79) wizards staff (LAW), slings and a warhammer of justice.

I've decided to make different maps for different areas. The first section will be the castle and surrounding country, then I will make expansions such as the Chaos Wastes (I'm working on that already) and the icy hollows (also working on it).

There's also pirates and dinosaurs.

@ DarkCrusade: Boiling oil, awesome idea.

Keep in mind it's a CARTOON FANTASY mod. Not intended for realism.

maybe both. like 2 castles separated by a large battlefield(maybe forest) for crossbow fights, and maybe small areas for CQC. Or maybe just one large field, with some hills or trenches for all out battle- much like the situations you face when playing Medieval- Total War

EDIT-I feel that this mod's gonna be something like Lord Ivahn's Heretic mod XD
EDIT again- Dark, if you were to make such a map, try also adding lots of cover, for the crossbow users to reload.

It's more for RPG style combat, but with a few huge battles thrown in.

There will always be a constant bot battle in "the battlefield" between crusaders and chaos warriors. There are siege towers (stationary, allowing access to the castle), manlets (archer cover for attackers) and a tunnel underneath the castle into the courtyard.

If you get bored of that battle, simply leave and pop into the village where you'll see some cool buildings, some cool characters and a dock. At the dock there is a ship that will lead you to an underground path (pretend it's the ships journey), that leads you to an island infested with pirates.

THE MOD IS FOR TEAM MATCH ONLY. You are red team, and it is your job to kill all the chaos and rescue the princess.

I'll release the recommended game mode and bot choices with the mod.

I WANT THIS MODS BABIES! ZOMG. Sounds like awesome

wow this sounds epic, i can't wait for this to be done :D ive actually have quite a number of medieval-ish or fantasy sounds. so this wouldn't be much of a problem. Gosteks will take abit, details a proportions would be difficult to get.

Make the minigun throw boil oil. Just replace the bullet's speed to something like 5 and increase the damage a lot.

I was thinking of the M2 being oil (as it's stationary), and the minigun being a cannon with a long startup time. This'd make more sense in my opinion. You'd also look cool carting a cartoon cannon around.

Some of my scenery is looking crap because soldat isn't anti-aliasing them. I'll look to fix this.

I updated my sig to fit the mod.

you better believe it :D this is a big breath of fresh air than all the common ones alreeady around. im actually getting quite bored of the whole WWII/Modern/Sci-fi types.

Added suggestion to the ranged weapons, maybe some pirate weapons would do too, since there is going to be pirates right?

Boiling oil, excuse me for my fail at english :'( Just kidding, try something for the minigun like an armageddon launcher or something like that. You hold a basket with clusters in it that you drop on a large startup time (maybe from a wall of a castle since the minigun is a supporting weapon and defensive) and you throw 10 cluster grenades to the ground making tons of damage and high bink.

Oh nuts i totally forgot, if we were talking about a supermassive mod, with plenty of alternate weapons, we would need a config program, like Ivahn's mod config. Another problem is, it does'nt support the current soldat's weapon stats files.

Yeah to make this mod perfect, we'll need a weapon chooser program and a script on a dedicated server.

I don't know what an Armageddon weapon is, but it sounds cool.

The secondary weapons are:

-Sword
-Throwing knife
-Pirate musket
-Sling

Primary Weapons:

-Wizard staff (shoots lightning)
-Warhammer of justice (explosive)
-Firesword
-Crossbow
-Repeater Crossbow
-Longbow
-Cannon
-Musket
-Shadowball

Turrets:
-Boiling oil.

Nades:
-Fireballs.

They're not set in stone.

you might to change the firesword to the repeater crossbow, while in replacement for the spas 12, would be a Blunderbuss- its basically a musket with a shortened but much larger barrel, stuffed with iron balls or anything you could find suitable as a projectile.. in a nutshell, a 18th century shotgun

There's going to be more than the standard 10 primary. I'm thinking like 20, so feel free to give me ideas, I haven't even started the weapons on the interface.

ah :D alright, theres actually alot of pirate weapons in the link i gave ya. currently looking for more types of weapons.

well, for the entire range of 'historical' weapons, i would suggest including weapons from the renaissance, medieval, ancient and Golden Age of Piracy eras.

As for fantasy, im not sure as much since alot of it has got to do with fancy versions of historical weapons and lots of magical spells.

I'm thinking of making one big sort of "main quest" map, and a whole bunch of "side quest" maps.

I don't like magic too much, so don't expect magic to play a huge part. Though flamegod mode will be fun to make into a super spell.

Powerups are perfect:

Cluster nades will be an archer power up, beserker will be a close-combat power up and flamegod will be magic. Vest is just better armour.

That's if I could script.

An armageddon weapon is ... cool, simply download Heretic Mod II and check out the armageddon scroll :)

When you make your map, put somewhere catapults like on ctf_Bomber (he used polygons for it) or some zombiemaps (I guess inf_Wither is a good example). Also you need many burrows and some dragons flying in the air (if you boost up you may stand on them, if you enter the mouth you get boosted like on ctf_Bounce). Add different saws, a firesword is cool, also add a necromancer gauntlet, a runespear and stuff like that :)

Mind you your lucky because there are a lot of people that seem to want to help you and they all have put a lot of work into your mod already and you owe it to them to try to finish and put good work into the mod that they helped you with and not go off and start a new one...

as for this "medieval mod" it looks like a good Idea and a fun project but PLEASE finish your last mod before starting this one....

Mod maps:

There will be one big offline botmap to muck around on, which will be the main focus. There will be some small maps attached for online play, including a map that is between two ships, one a navy ship and the other pirates, where the players must board the otehr ship, steal their flag and then return it to theirs. It's very fun at the moment, and I'm not using a weapons mod! Another map is two castles, with flags in them, there is a trenchy-tunnely-manlety battlefield in between, where the two armies duke it out! Good fun.

This is very simple.

1) I have already made 4 mods.
2) as I have said in other posts I'm taking the WWI mod very slowly.
3) the "Just for fun" thread is simply that as of yet I'm not even planning to make weapons gfx for those guns.
4) so far I have done ALL of the work on my mods
 wile he on the other hand is already starting to depend on other people to do his work for him.

Mind you I'm not bashing Gnoblar so far I like the work that he does and after talking to him on other things he seems like a good guy

In other words I'm trying to help him.

The point is that this is Gnoblars second mod and the last one took him forever even with

everyone's help but Espadon,Me and you Dairy have all made mods with out
anyone's help after all you dont learn from having people do things for you

Sigh.

Recently I've been very troubled with my social life, and I just felt like I was letting the community down by leaving it sitting on my PC. I have no inspiration to work on 2057AD, but I have lot's of inspiration to work on this new one. I don't really want to work on 2057AD anymore. I will finish it, but it will be a chore more than anything, I'm not ditching it. I spend a lot of time on this forum looking for a break from the world and I play a lot of Halo 3 and 360 as an escape. I hardly work on the mod(s). That will change soon as i am going to speak to a certain girl and hope for the best (become friends?). If that goes well, I'll be happy and inspired and I'll be working on BOTH mods.

This new mod is fun to work on, and I like the drawing style, and I CAN DO IT. I can't shade guns now make weapon-gfx's very well at all. I simply just like getting ideas out their and testing them. This is why I'm going to be a programmer and get someone else to do the visuals.

This new mod is a breath of fresh air for me and fun to make. There is a lot of anticipation for it already, and I'm working hard to get some feasible screens out there.

2057AD was started when I was a soldat-crazed little boy. It is now a lot bigger than I thought, and there are many eager fans who I've let down by releasing an unfinished mod. I feel bad about that, I'm sorry. I now hardly ever play soldat, so decided to make a mod that I would actually use to play soldat. Inspiration came from the zombie RPG server and Castle Crashers, and my cartoon thread in "The Lounge". At the moment I'm not a very happy chappy and I need bright and cheerful things in my life, not depressing cold 2057AD things. You wonder why it's so black and white?

This is a new start, inspired by a girl at school who I greatly admire (who will appear in the mod as an elven queen). She had cheered me up and shpwn the colour in my life and pulled me out of the cold greyness it once was.

2057AD is that greyness, this new one is the colour. Talk about putting your heart in a mod...

So I'll finish 2057AD, but I'm going to cheer up and bring this new mod with me.

The community really wants 2057AD, so I will finish it, but it's not exactly a happy mod is it?

It does'nt mean your asking alot of people's help that you AREN'T learning. Different people have different ways of learning.

Actually, the best way to learn isn't solo work, but group interaction. In group situations, your able to learn fast because one could ask their groupies things that one does'nt already know, at the same time, you can teach them things they don't get too.

So its actually a win-win situation AND you get to do things twice as fast. Take higher education for example, polytechnics and universities, being a lone wolf is suicide.

Well, yes doing a mod yourself has its advantages, you get to shape the mod entirely yourself, and can get full credit from that.. but after all thats done, what happens? Do another one again yourself? Isn't that boring? Even as a gostek modder I too get bored of doing the same thing every now and then. This is also probably why my gostek requests always take twice or even three times as long as i would normally plan.

So take this as an advice, whenever possible- ASK for help and you shall receive. Cutting out yourself from the outside world isn't the way to go.

Scout, maybe modding teams are not the best way to learn...

Gnoblar, if you have any problems on making it you know you have the community so post the problem and we will tell you what's wrong or how you can upgrade.

The maps are going to look like those screenshots? If it's going to be that 'massive' I would go for realistic things.
And btw... those features are the ones that you are specting to make... right? I say that because changes happenz

Maybe you could play a bit more with .ini, making from autos, semis, or other speciall things, there are not so much seen, so you can try and make a great mod

Maybe. You learn %90 of what you teach other people.

For this mod, the maps will be cartoony and awesome. I haven't set anything in stone other than that it's a fantasy cartoon mod.

In a way he is obligated to finish it...Not that anyone can force him (or would force him) to finish it but the fact is that a Lot of people have put there time and work into this mod...so for him to just "give it up because its not fun anymore" is not really fair to those people....

In conclusion:Yes modding soldat is just for fun  but please keep in mind the fact that other people don't want a bunch of half finished mods...

And yes I'm modding for fun niko, but I also want to make people happy and to stop looking how someones are just thinking that they are so pro giving tips that might fail.

Try a modding team and see it with your own eyes, unless you have a modder friend (not from the forums, I mean somene who you can meet) it will be hard.

Recently I've been very troubled with my social life.

Sounds vesty, but of course I'm a retard that's interested in things like this because I tend to deal with wary social situations like I'm juggling glass orbs. I tend to go out of my way to help someone feel normal if the opposite is true; so I'm fascinated by hearing stories of various social situations going awry :-X

Nice to read from you again Gnoblar. I liked the comic styled idea behind this mod and would love to see it finished. I don´t think you need to apologise for 2057AD by the way. It´s your decision whether you create and finish a mod and it is your decision if you want to quit your project. I myself quitted 4 projects. 1 was finished. My ratio is bad ftw, but you can do some things here and there and you will finish it over time. Don´t freak out like before and set a deadline. Keep cool and you will do your best :)

Oh no, there will be three maps "shipping" with this mid. I'll tell you about one of them, it's an RPG style map that is huge and has many side adventures as you go from the castle (the one in the screen) to the chaos wastes and the wizards tower (my favourite). It'll be offline only with the idea to have 31 bots on different teams. Trust me, it'll be awesome.

The other two will be multiplayer awesomeness. The only clue you're getting for them are "Pirates" for map 1 and "Siege" for map 2.

I'm very excited with my progress, the RPG map (Called "The Kingdom") is looking gorgeous, a castle, a town a dock, a wizrds village...

The RPG map is an infiltration map. You must bring the princess (the flag) back to the castle, hence rescue her. But that's not as easy as it sounds...

I look forward to giving you guys some screens. Until then, Gnoblar out.

I tried out thinking that the flag is a pretty princess. Then I threw the flag against the wall. Several times. Now life is all empty. Waiting for screenshots :(

Thank you, but I am very sorry to say no, but you can expect a decent update very soon *cough* wednesday.

So far I have made the polygons for one multiplayer map I just need to sex it up with some pictures and scenery.

Be prepared for some magic spewing, flame sword wielding and ice shard shattering combat.

Righteous Rampage is too serious if you want go fruity, Magical Mayhem is good for serious and fruity at the same time. Jus consider how much this mod has magic or swords. Also if this is closer to medieval gothic or heroic fantasy.

IMO, Green blood won't fit in this since its a very cartoonish mod. I woud'nt want to see enemies blow up in greenish goo in a mod like this :S  Green blood fits more for sci-fi style mods, since lets face it, aliens/mutants and stuff liek that bleed blood other than red.

I'd rather see fairy dust(just like in 'The Golden Compass' where a character's demon dies by disintegrating into dust.)

Officially. I've been trying to line up weapons and I just gave up. I'll finish the interface (which is being worked on!) and the weapons interface and then three maps it'll be released with then I'll owrry about the weapons-gfx.

Also, boiling oil is now black. I was considering making it boiling soup but nah...

Already on it. Im giving the 'crusader's bright silver armor, while retaining some gold, wing shaped ornamants.
Their headgears are as follows-

Normal- Winged Helmet
Punk- Warrior's Hood
Dreds- Spartan helm (subject to change)
Mr.T- King's Crown

While as for the Black knights, im already planning to give them a very pale or flushed skin colour and RED glowing eyes.
their armor would be the dark version of the Crusaders, with sharp-edged body armor & possibly dark red 'vein' motifs, not forgetting about their spikes. Helmet wise, it would be much more detailed- ive not confirmed what im gonna do for that.

The gosteks will be coloured. but ive tweaked the brightness of the gosteks such that they'll look good with any colour scheme

make sure that the head, is a bit out of proportion with the rest of the body...that will give it a more cartoony look.

You can´t make the head bigger without making it look stupid. If your head-gfx is 1 pixel too big it looks really too big, like 1/3 too big.

Ah well, since everyone's posting something, id might as well update you guys on my progess

Images attached show the Holy knights wearing the Winged/Spartan/King's Crown respectively.

Ill attach the other headgears when im done with them.

namely- the Warrior's Hood and the 'Eternal Helm of Destruction' rambo headband replacement :)


PS- The winged helm was'nt so successful, as making the wing ornament of the helmet stand out is quite difficult. Thus, what you see here is quite a cluttered lump :\

Side note, this whole gostek was mainly modified from my old Knights Templar plate armor gostek, as seen below.

I think they aer too bright, but it can be that I think so because of the dark background. But those gosteks look nice! Absolutly nice!

I'm with Gnoblar on this, although they are really nice they are not as cartoony as I had hoped they would be...

The main reason for that I think is, that most of Gnoblars work is cel shaded which makes these look "overly detailed".


One more thing that I forgot... AWESOME Vid Gnoblar  ;)  I really enjoyed watching it  :)

I suggest using no shading. Use only 4 or 5 colors for the gosteks and it should be fine.

huge problem when outlining gosteks, is that it takes TOO much space. Even if its 1 pixel.  a good outline would be 1/3 pixels wide.

Ill try the cel shading idea as you guys suggested. Ive always did'nt like undetailed things, hence why i always do 'overly detailed' and messy gosteks.

if i actually tried enlarging the gosteks itself, the knight won't look like a knight.. but more of an extremely fat knight with size issues. Think about it, you would'nt want knights to be hugely fat don't you? :P

Another work around is to decrease the size of the sceneries and create the illusion the map(s) are much larger than they look from just pictures.

nope, gostek graphics are all afixed to one area. so if tried making long thighs for the knights, it would overlap the shin area, same goes for the chest, head, etc, etc.

watched the video, and i must say, i love how the castle is coming around, and the songs' are really  addictive too O.o

since soldat is the German word for soldier why not use Ritter (the German word for knight) or chevalier (the french word for knight).

You could add something to the end of the word (as ritter is not the greatest sounding word for a mod name) just for the extra "flare".

Seriously, with this mod, I honestly believe that this is THE soldat mod. I made the idea, but I can't actually bring it to you, my faithful friends, by myself. I need your help. Even if you do one thing, you get credit. It'd be awesome to see "Fantasy Mod, designed by Gnoblar,  brought to life by" then a long lost of names. It'd be awesome.

I am doing all I can by myself, but this mod would be infinitley better with the community pitching in, because that's what we're here for.

I need a wizards stick (a happy one) and IDEAS for jets fuel/health bar etc.

And sfx, I'm finding some but it's hard to find over 20 different sounds.

But weapons-gfx. That is hell.

I was hoping for sword fighting but the soldat gameplay, even nodded wouldn't support it well. There's still bots running around with swords only besieging your castle, but the chainsaw is the only sword. The rest are magic or projectiles. This is still very cool, fruity and fun. So don't worry.

By the way, all the maps work really well with bots just aimlessly charging down the middle with swords. A few bowman are fine, but there's the big brawl in the middle. It looks awesome.

I love this mod.

On topic: I was thinking about the flamer bonus, and maybe changing the flamer to look like wand/dragon's head/etc... Since you can't mod the flames (Afaik).
I want to see more fiery things, since in the medieval ages fire was almost worshiped...

I think the flamer should be somewhat a healing bonus. You get invincible for 10 seconds and the healing flames of the FruitGod will help your allies. Just decrease the flamer damage to about -25, decrease the flamer speed and you have a healing flamer! Don´t forget to mention that the flamer will heal enemies, too, so use it wisely.

a)Portable Medkit-
 another alternative is to give short reload times for this, but has a very low amount of healing. also, a different name for this would be much more 'fitting' lets say, a "Healing Orb/Chest/Scroll/"?

b)Mud balls-
 does'nt seem to fit the bill of.. exploding when thrown.

c)pistol-
 leave it to single fire weapons, i would have somesort of 'death ray' laser like weapon. With extreme bullet speed , extreme rate of fire, extreme damage, very low ammo count, and extremely low reload time. More fit for the law replacement.. but yeah.

The healy gun is an good idea. Staff of...healiness... Name can come later.

I've already got three arrow "guns", I think that's enough arrows flying around.

Come on. Do something here and there and you´ll get results. If they are bad go on until it´s perfect. Learn that you do not need to do everything right, many modders take months or years to develop a mod (for instance LandWarrior).

I've done it with maps. A lot. I make something but it's a rough draft. I come back to the map a year er so later and work on it some more. It's only been recent that I've resorted to "sticking it through" and finishing stuff. Simple example being that I had to re-edit the weapon.ini's I'd lost for mods I've made.

actually, what other ideas should there be? the mods nearly finished, inclusive of the weapons, gosteks, maps and maybe sounds?

if i were you gnob, i would use the already listed weapons. Create them, make em 'interesting'- whether your up to it or not, its up to you. Once your done with the base and released it, you can add some mod patches like additional weapons maps and other stuff.

Sup Guys, I have decide that I will only make the maps for this mod.

Recently I've been doing A LOT of video editing and effects, I have started Parkour training (6 months into it) and I have a TAFE course in Games devleoping.

I am going to make some very sexy maps, but i'm afraid the Weapons-gfx and sounds will be up to other people.

I apologise, but I don't have the time and I don't enjoy making weapons-gfx.

Very dull. I made the Interface and maps, and I really enjoy that, so I will continue.

If anyone would like to take the reins and make some weapons and sounds and all that, then please do.

Well I've been working all day on the mod. Right now I am working on the RPG level where you start in the castle. And it's under attack! You wait to see the adventure I have lined up for you guys.

Hopefully screenshots will arrive shortly as I think it's a bit ugly for now.

Multiplayer levels will come after the RPG level is done.

I'll whip some screenshots up for you tomorrow afternoon. I just had a shock when I tested my map and discovered that everything I made was amazingly out of scale. I need to sleep, rescale and then take screenshots.

Yeah ok so this mod is dead. I apologise to everyone who was looking forward to it.

HDD failures, computer changes, house changes, life changes.

I have a few of the images I drew still on a backup HDD so if anyone wants a background or anything, give me a message.
