Okay the plan for this (Not set in stone mind you) is to be a "quick" mod were I'll have UNSC Marines vs some type of covenant soldiers

This isn't going to be some really "involved" mod, just something fun and easy for me to make.

So there we go, a rather humble start I must say.


P.S. Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to the fact that my life is kind of crazy right now.

The difference is just in a few pixels, but it happens because they are doing one and the same weapon.

But they looked the same to me also at the first time, until i made a x800 zoom.

Espadon didn't created Halo itself, so no reason to relate everything into one man. In same sizes, same weapons from same universe may always look similiar. Try do 30 AUG's by different people with identical sizes and colors. They will be similiar.

No their not, but I can see how you could think that, but the fact is with pixel art that you only can make the same weapon look so unique from one person to another.

Back to the point, I'm thinking that for gosteks I'll make (http://i29.tinypic.com/2na037b.png) these.

and I'm not settled on what to make for the covenant.

I'm gunna try my best  ;D but I may need help with stuff (Sounds explosions etc...)

but really I'm not a big Halo fan, so any input on time lines and stuff like that would be greatly appreciated.

Sniper rifle:

I am still fighting with the darn sniper, and as you can see, I made the Halo 3 fuel rod gun and also improved the plasma rifle, as well as "finished" the interface.

Oh yeah can I get a map maker to try making a map for me? (I would like to have a relatively experienced mapper If possible) I'm going to start sketching the map on paper then I'll upload it to the forums...

Looks good so far. The sniper could improve a lot if you advanced the shading. Knife should be smaller imo and the weaponnames with big and small letters. The text you have right now is not looking good :)

If you want opinions, here's mine:
I played Halo, 1 and 2, won't bother with 3 cause I've learned it sucks.
And I just see way too many Halo mods, or derivations of Halo mods.

as of yet, I haven't had any problems with alignment, but thanks.

Oh yeah and I have played Halo 3, and it owned, wasn't the best game I ever played but it still owned.

I didn't say Halo 2 sucks, it's actually the best out of them.
But after playing a 1 lvl demo of 3 and watching trailers and such, I really got disgusted ;/
On topic: Did you try making a needler instead of the SMG?

You don´t need to do the weapons.ini. You can work on a new balance but please store the file in an other folder so you can choose yourself from the beginning whether you want to play with a weapon mod or without.

@ the 2 weapons: Stick with the first one if you ask me.

If you cant get right sounds, try find the most accurate from other games. They can be even edited in Audacity to be similiar. In some titles most painful is that you cant record sfx seperate from background noises because they are same pattern in sound options. More nightmare is when they are encoded into game or use infamous resources compression. I could even do in ex. TheSuffering by gfx, but sfx... So dont stop working on this mod even if not every part will be pure Halo. At these times in this community any single mod attempt is important.

Yes its sad to see how the modding community it dying.

I just remembered my main goal for this mod, I was going to make this a ODST mod (for the new halo coming out) so that means that I need to make some of the weapons over again, further more I think I'll study halo weapons better, for some reason I don't feel like I've "Captured" the look of Halo weapons.

Sorry for the bad grammar, I'm kind of tired, its been a long day for me.

So anyhow Look for an update soon.

I played Halo 1 some 10 minutes ago again.
Could be the lightning settings i use, but i like the more shaded versions from you.

Also, i suggest that you place an alternative stuff folder, so the shading you like will be in interface-gfx folder, while the ones you dont like but look decent will be in the alternative folder, like SK did it in his mod.

Because Dairy, he want constructive criticism, not "I like - I want" dump. Wishes of these, who want something even not correct or not enough good because that looks decent for laic aren't criticism.

Plasma Pistol looks ok, even if some details. I have LCD and it's not too bright, so if it will be brighter may transform into plastic toy.

Several things that you need to remember croat,

One is that the Halo weapons, changed from version to version,

And that the pics that I posted were taken from the Ingame weapons menu
which dulls the look of the weapons.

But I guess that I will post the extra weapons that I made, along with the rest of the mod.

I have played it. So you want the guns to be as near to halo as possible i presume? Fuel rod cannon, difficult, battle rifle is impossible, but I can make it just a strong. Carbine will be the rapege.

This is what you do, keep it balanced but try to stay true to halo as much as possible
(but try to keep the ammo count the same).

I like those new guns. Sniper looks pretty fresh with some lighter colors. : )

This is why weapons ini needs more customization...

So you can make the effects of different universes in mods. (Overheating Alien weapons)
Or Burst rifle.....

The sniper could have an a bit darker tone, but as far as i see, they look decent (My refference (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/a/a1/1221018064_Sniper.png)).

Also, name them properly (pick them from here (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons)) to be sure that we are thinking of the same weapons.

Imo those strong colors (red & blue) of the bars in the interface look bad.

Maybe try something more single colored or some lighter fruity colors like lime green-yellowish, purple, light blue, orange ect. Try white incase those fail.

Then the jet bar is too similar with the jet interface box color.


Btw lol @ dual wield smily.
The best thing I loved in Halo was the melee attack with the plasma pistol. Everytime I did it, I felt like screaming "FIST OF FUURYYY!!!!" *CCRRRUUUSHH*

Awesome times. I should probably play halo1 on easy and do only that the whole game. :D

If you tryed a form of shading (other then pillow shading) and also sized your weapons down a bit, it could look a lot like this mod.

Although I could give you a download, I don't see why you would need it, the weapons follow halo standards and settings.

IS number 4 the burst rifle? (Havent played halo in a while)

You could simulate that with low ammo, and fast reload..... But then you'd need a limited ammo script, otherwise it'd be too over powered.

The turret would best fit the aliens (covenant or whatever) cause its the only weapon you can make overheat.

Now that I think of it.... The burst rifle is the one with the scope!

I tryed giving the BR55 a 3 shot mag with no reload time and a small fire interval, and it works, but the problem is that you can never run out of ammo and if you stop in the middle of the burst, it messes your aim up.

Do you know how hard it is making weapons interface that look nice with only the weapons Gfx as a guide?  :P but yeah you will be the first to receive a copy.

Besides that, I don't use mods on soldat usualy. All I need is SoldatEnchanced. A few mods are nice, but they don't do anything for me.

Calm down, do whatever you want but I'm telling you that you don't need it and would be for something... let me see who you think would give you a advice... someone who joined few time ago, or someone who is a kind of veteran and has made some mods?
Anyone who knows just a bit of modding could tell you that you don't need images to do that, and you have them posted on 1st page, it won't modify the ini those images, and you should need Halo to make the correct balance, as ODST is not out (I think) you could see how other Halos are.

Next time try to be more polite because as far as I know those CAPS, mean crying, and that means that you don't really know how to talk with a person who is telling you the truth

yes brutes are bigger then Elites, but you cant make gosteks taller so you just have to live with it unfortunately.

and I have made grayscales for them, its just I can't get the look right.

I can make good gosteks in terms of shape but not taller x2 times. Even Taehl's Alien had some issues with height and flaws in it (some static parts for different sides). You can abuse limits and make 2x taller things but with less interactivity - if we still talking about online gosteks without modified animations and because of that, sometimes I call them skins because they are just different gfx skin for the same default object (in ex. Soldat\Objects\gostek.po) or animation (in ex. Soldat\Anims\stoi.poa).

theres really no point in trying to follow the correct size of the brutes. id say, just screw the size, and do the gostek. The shocck troopers won't look nice if resized accordingly, they'd look scrawny, worst of all, theres too much loss in detail.

You can't always have what you want in a mod, you would need to sacrifice things in order to make it work, thats what i always follow when doing gosteks.

In-game gfx are your real modding "trademark", MattH. Even without sounds they fit theme perfectly in Soldat realms. I will list any flaws later because first tests are never objective to reality. Or maybe try alternate set of gosteks, because while alpha looks ok, the brute seem sketchy and unfinished for me. I will try do it in my way but with setup to actual alpha.

Okay, I was pretty wrong. I decided to check out some chart for weapon lengths, and you've got it down pretty good. The shotgun may be too long by a pixel, but I frankly don't care if it stays that way.

I'm assuming you know the muzzle shots are not in alignment.

I think you should brighten the Plasma Rifle bullets, basically most weapons need to brighten, and I know you said the bullets aren't done but I'm just saying.

The battle rifle is proving hard to do. Do you want it to be a full auto, or the 12 shot burst? I will do a rough version of all guns and send it to you, then tell me what you think. Half way done.

I agree that the shotgun is too long.

Also, the handguns are WAY too big.

And yeah, basically all plasma/energetic/etc bullets need to be brightened a lot.

this was exactly why i never tried making 'oversized' gosteks

alot of complications come to play when your trying to alter the very size and SHAPE of the gosteks.

Brutes tend to have small heads, and they also tend to slouch forward( you could try to move the head forward to get that effect, but this is not possible on the mirrored side, since gostek alignments are all fixed), maybe because of their size of their bodys.

This principle also applies for elites, 'cept that the bodys are smaller and they're the rough height of an average person.

Even trying to edit the size of the shoulders, let alone the body would have serious issues. you could end up having a dis-proportioned brute with wide/huge shoulders and stubby legs.

as i said before, i only focus in accuracy(while keeping the size limits the same) for gosteks. so it does'nt really matter if you have your own ways in modding. I respect that.

I could do the Weapons.ini faster :|. There's no balancing involved. Just make the guns to mimic their Halo counterparts and there you have it. But just so I don't provoke you, I'm not even considering doing the WM.

I suppose the only balancing would be in the realistic WM

I haven't been able to work on the mod all that much since the beta was released
so there hasn't been much change from the copy you now have, the main reason for this is because I've been having a TON of family "issues" lately and for me real life comes first.

I think that the plasma rifle should fit the other weapons colors, too, since it is very outstanding in its blue color. I don´t tell you to use the same green colors as on the other weapons but to find a color fitting both blue and green.

I have my fairly accurate weapons.ini file but everytime I try to upload it, it just wont load the page. Dam. I'll upload it on rapidshare or filefront or something.

Here's some changes in this file: BR is Halo3.5 styled. Plasma rilfe, Plasma pistol and Turret cannot reload. Sniper is a little bit overpowered( one hit kills). No need to rush ppl here friend, he could take his time,although i never made a mod myself, when i tried to make a weapon pixel by pixel, i gave up after 2 minutes in frustration.... ::) . So I suppose he's 90% done? All i can say is that, MATT, your ODST mod could be the best mod ever "released" if HLT doesnt get released. Yes i know HLT is not going to be released but who knows? Maybe Espadon is making it but hiding the progress? :)

Matt has some serious rl issues so he isnt working on ANY mod.

MattH is alive yay but about you life problems you should fix that a little more if its still there but if you know its been a while login and give an update when you see post on your thread ok i was getting scard that there was going to be 2 undone halo mods  [retard] it would make me sad a little :'(

so far.... I found 1 more sound file and did a little work on the new interface-gfx, other then that don't hold your breath for this mod, its going to take me some time  :-\

Noone can make a good mod just so, they need time to make and test it + they cant make a mod "just so"

You need to realize and understand that most ambitious mods DON'T work out, because of life issues and other commitments.

As right now, my gosteks mods have been ceased for abit because of my school exams, and work, other times you just don't want to do it at all, and for most part, distractions play alot of it too( games and stuff ) .. We're all human.

Unless a mod is actually being worked on by a TEAM, its quite unlikely that a huge mod would take less than a fortnight to be completed. At the most you can do now, is just to move on, hope for the better and quit pushing the modder to deliver.

If you want sometime to ACTUALLY be done, do it yourself, or even better, work with the modder in a team so that you can give him a motivation boost.
