Yeah! Also return the knife glitch and team stacking, get rid of battleye too, so we can use cheats and hacks and be even more gay!

on-topic: nades through wall is a major and very annoying glitch which is extremely easy to reproduce (even with not-so-thin walls) and is abused very often. If weapons were fixed - there shouldn't be much of a problem with fixing nades either.

Wasn't it fixed somewhere in 1.4.xxxxxx??? No?
Grenades just used to bounce back if you tried to throw them through walls.

I use it whenever I feel like using it, except when going for a personal 1on1 situation with someone I wanna test myself against.
Nothing wrong with it, it's not like you're doing the super flag throw bug....

No, cause unlike many people today, I'm not a hypocrite asshole.
I don't get frustrated/pissed off when someone does it to me, cause I wouldn't hesitate doing it to them.

That kinda ruins the purpose of many spots on the maps. Maps are designed around a fair game and walls are there for a reason. However this bug can mess up the way map is played.

This bug gives an unfair advantage since those above you have absolutely no way of nading back down. It also defeats the purpose of many spots that are supposed to provide cover.

It also makes you learn from your mistakes and keep your pixels down, move faster, and avoid those situations.

Title: Re: Grenades through thin walls.

Yes it can be fixed. Along with a lot of other collision bugs. Along with a lot of bugs in general.

Same goes for some hacks as well, but there's a reason why hacks aren't allowed. Bug abuse isn't much different from hacking, except bugs are already in the game from the start.
Both can be avoided with experience, but both give an unfair advantage and make gameplay especially frustrating for newbies who aren't aware of such flaws or aren't experienced enough to avoid them.

I personally am a fair player. I don't use bugs. When I sometimes happen to play on CS r/s servers and I'm waiting in the house, waiting for the enemy to fall into my trap. I'm like "he can't kill me if I'm here lol" and then he comes and throws a grenade through thin floor.... How annoying is that?

This bug can be really annoying in r/s mode, since your every life might make your team/ clan win.
Saying: Please, Do not glitch. Doesn't help.

One thing I've learned from experience with soldat: The "newb" who gets that frustrated at this bug would be just as frustrated with the crouchbug, a polybug, etc etc...
So if my "exploiting a bug" turns him off of soldat, then I just saved the poor bastard a lot of time.
I've learned about it on my own, and from the first time someone did it to me.
Not my fault that 8 year olds play soldat.

There is 2nd spot in Ash where you can do wallnading. ;p

Anyway, I didn't notice it cause I wasn't using it back to those times. Don't you think that this fix in 1.4.0 cause another problem called "Bouncy nades"? Wasn't it the reason to remove that fix?

Polybugs and crouch bug are nothing compared to nade bug -  you can't really abuse them because they're hard to reproduce. Even if you do manage to do that - they barely give you any advantage. Unless you make a better comparison - your point is not valid.

You're just being arrogant. You should know well that "8 y.olds" aren't the only ones who'd get frustrated and simple irritation isn't the only reason why'd they do that.
Throwing nades through walls doesn't even make sense in the first place and doesn't happen neither in reality nor in any other game. If not for gameplay - at least for the sake of common sense this bug should be fixed.

I've got the impression you see everything in black and white, and worse - "black and white" that you made up yourself based on your own "lessons". Open your eyes and try to see more colors.

This place is full of people who see everything in black and white.

On topic: Only way to fix this would be removing the ability to throw nades when facing a wall. This wouldn't work since the throw itself doesn't happen instantly.

Hey, I see all 7 colors of the rainbow, nothing wrong with my eye sight, thank you.
And no, I'm not being arrogant, I'm stating facts.
As to the poly bug, I've seen dozens of people "abuse" them, like rolling after hitting a corner when you're falling, or the one poly bug in a certain climb map, which I don't recall by name.
Fyi; 8 year olds by mental age, my friend.
Anyone with the slightest sense of humor, who plays for FUN, wouldn't get that pissed off about losing to a bug.

I'm afraid there's far more than 7 colors.
You're stating only one of many facts. Like the fact that nade bug is still a bug that gives an unfair advantage. Another fact is that it's not in the rules of the game to nade through walls and it ruins some parts of maps' design. There are players who don't consider it fun to use bugs and cheap tricks to win, that is also a fact. I'm one of those players, I play fair and I expect others to be fair in return.

Of course complete noobs with no brains or patience will get pissed off, but I'm not even talking about them. I'm talking about normal players with decent IQ who just started playing.

Or you could just multi-sample the collision of the nade more intensely, for, say, the first second.

Post by: demoniac93 on January 12, 2010, 07:24:35 pm
Well then it's not my problem that I'm an unfair bitch, people can vote me if it displeases them that much, the fact is, there's a bug, I have a chance at it, I use it, if it doesn't suit the person I killed using the bug, they can go play gathers, or leagues, where it is forbidden.

just a reminder to what that ignorant human being under nickname centurion has said, due to the specific map construction on R/S CS it is generally (to be more precise, always and on all servers so far) allowed to use nade glitch. It is part of the game there, so it is not considered as unfair advantage. I personally like it that way because without nade bug there would be way more camping (a lot of houses etc). Default maps are something different, as it's generally not allowed to use nade glitch there people should just restrain themselves from using it. As i've said in another topic similar to this one, it is just a matter of rules. If it's allowed you just need to consider it in your gameplay and don't whine that  it's unfair advantage.

And since this is a bug it should be fixed, until it's not fixed different gamemodes/servers will handle it in various way and you need to respect that, this is just a game that's being played in various ways, some people like to play this, some people like to play that, it's none of your business unless they break the rules of the server/event.

And face the fact Mittsu, all rs cs players are between age 4-16 (17 max). They have even no idea what gliching stands for and I'm not even going to speak about fair gameplay. Any soldatforums member can hop in rs cs servers and make sure that what I've said above isn't wrong.

Thanks to rs cs servers people are not only gliching on cs maps, they are doing it on default maps as well. They don't care what kind of map it is, as far as you can glitch - they'll do it.

Actually, as long as you can read anything is easy..

Usually young kids play like for 5 minutes or even less ( depending on if they got an older sibling that just let them play while they finish lunch or something )

those poly bugs are easy to fix, just put a poly in the middle, or make the polys overlap.
the real poly bug is that the nade gets spawned further out (or has no collition untill a certain airtime), same goes for flags.

the nade doesn't collide for the first half second or so (you can throw a nade on the ground and run over it). and you can't animation mod your soldat, it has to be done with the original one, and if you do that, it's easier to just change the code.

You realize this means it is colliding with the ground, right? It doesn't collide with whoever threw the nade for the first half second or so. This isn't what causes nade-through-thin-walls.

hmm well, I guess that's just player colide, however, it's not a big deal if it spawns at the player location or further away, it must be changed by the coder.

Not to say your wrong because you obviously know more about it then i do. But in my experience it depends on how long it takes the grenade to contact the "thin wall". If you throw it from close to the wall it goes through. If you stand back it does not. Oo there is something there... I dont know. The map i am specificly talking about is one from the Resident Evil mod. The walls are made in such a way on purpose i think. Sorry if i am way off base here. Just my thoughts....

Here's my theory:

refer to attached

Point 1 is where the release point of the nade is.

Point 2 is where the nade ends up due to its velocity, position would be calculated before collision is detected, otherwise it wouldn't be able to bug through such thick walls.

The collision detection checks for which edge the nade is closest to, which in the case of thin enough walls, is opposite to where the player is, and the collision system remedies the fact that the nade is inside the poly by moving it out to the closest edge, which happens to be the wrong edge.

That's what I thought too, but then shouldn't same principles apply for bullets? Comparing to bullets, nades are relatively slow and yet bullets don't go through walls, but nades do.

Although with bullets it seems that Point 1 and 2 are somewhere near the center of the player, which explains why you can't shoot if you're inside a collider.

I dont know if i would want to take that out. Certain maps are made more fun by the fact that you can hide behind the wall and throw grenades out but not get shot or shoot out. Is it something that would be changed as far as the code is concerned or is it something to be changed on the map?

Throw a nade through one wall is unfair? What about two walls?

Bullets seem to have better collision detection than nades, e.g. a raycast between where the bullet is and where it is going to be to make sure that it doesn't pass through any polies.

No, it's not allowed. Even if you can make your grenade through 123891273837904 polygons, it's still not allowed.

Its allowed cuz its a in game feature, Soldat got no bugs, all shits inside the game is a feature. I think that way cuz lots of shits has been reported on mantis and never fixed.
Now, if some league or ppl think its unfair, okay, its their way to play. Personality i play dont use-abusing those "features", but thats my way.

The game is somehow broken.

It's basically same with a car:

You'll buy a damn nice car and you'll find out that there's a hole in one of the tires. OH WAIT!!!!1 It's a tire feature @_@ It can be like that! I have no need to fix it and I can continue driving with a broken tire.

Nop, its something like this:

U got a 8 year old game, which nice ppl tried to help reporting bug which some has been fixed and some not, so there is no bugs at all. All funny shits like multi knives, lawproneair, warp and other gamebreak stuff has been fixed... now prolly crouch will be fixed on 151, so its not a featured anymore. Soldat got no bugs at all, what it got is feature which ppl accept or not, some featured are removed in fix versions to make the game more boring, just that.
