Bah, I've never liked beer. It tastes like crap. I barely drink alcohol but when I do then it's vodka or tequila.

Taaaaaaasty
I went down to their brewery last month for a tour (free tour, four free glasses of beer) and had a blast checking out all of their equipment. Almost applied for a job. I swear everyone working there was at least tipsy, if not outright drunk.

Never ever ever in my life had even a tiny drop of beer. I'm 20.
*is waiting for a killer reply*
-
/me does not like beer.
But I have drunk it - Heineken; Carlsberg; Reds; Tyskie; Lomza Export; Ciechan; Corona; Desperados; and some others.
-
Am I the only one who prefers wine and vodka mixes?
-
No, but this is a topic about beer.
Have yet to find a beer I can label as my absolute favourite, but I love whatever beer is on the taps where I go out.
I usually buy tuborg or corona.

I never really understood the hype about Corona. It's an okay beer, I suppose, but at those prices? Hell no! But you a good man for the Tuborg part ;)

Vijcht, Smegma...you two have my love for the Arrogant b*****d, Sam Smith, and Dogfish Head (even if it was just the glass). Some of my own personal favorites.

That brew is okay, fan of other beers they make though.
Panzer, when I get a wider selection of beers, perhaps I can try some of the ones you have enjoyed. Unfortunately, I live in an area of very limited selection. Can't even get any of the ones I put up images for. :-\
-
I'm more of a Cider person, too - both Apple and Perry ciders.
Bulmer's, Magner's, Ol Scrumpy, Kopparberg, Greven's (Scottish, Irish, Danish, and Norwegian), and some good American stuff: Crispin, and Ace.
Not sure about beers, 'cos my tastes change pretty fast, but if I had to pick right now, I'd say Lia Fail, Sheepshagger's, Trashy Blonde, and Hobgoblin. I was addicted to an Oatmeal stout at some pub in Edinburgh, but I can't remember the name for the life of me. Fuckendelicious.

Maybe it's because of the bar->pub thing, but if I were talking about American establishments I'd revert back to 'bar'. They feel different!
Also, I meant to say Swedish rather than Danish in my OP.
-
(http://i45.tinypic.com/120mphj.jpg)
Why is that Smirnoff bottle filled with brown liquid? And why are you wasting your money on Smirnoff?
-

That's...totally not it. I'm not so square as to be obtuse to a pub.
Maybe it was just the time of evening. For some reason I got the impression you were on a bar stool next to me. That kind of accent. ;)
Edit: Now, if I heard this talk at a pub...that would be a different story.
-

its dark orange cause its filled with dissolved skittles. i nicked them from a party a couple of weeks ago and havent got around to touching them. also vodka is vodka you cant waste money

well pretty much the only thing they sell around here is british ales so i cant get ales from other countries easily either. im hoping to put up a good selection of the ales they sell here though so you might be able to find at least one
im thinking of getting some bombadiers next or maybe some old fart

Well guys if you like mixing things, try Calimocho (whine + coke) but well I think that noone sells that lol and use cheap whine
and does somebody know Desperados? Is tequila with beer, a really nice combination

In the 17th safest, most stable country in the world.
I did try non light back in Europe though.

Whoah, Demonic, you drink Żubrówka? They have it where you live?

Hahah I always drink Calimucho when I am tired of beer and when the whine tastes like s**t (i.e. when going out)
But hmmm my beer, I like Hoegaarden in the summer. I buy Leffe Triple in the winter once in a while. But they're both too expensive to drink on regular basis.
I am not proud to say that the beer I drink most (the beer they have at the bar I work) is Bavaria :-X . Absolutely awful beer. (but cheap)

Chimay Blue is the best in that line!
As far as Dogfish Head goes, I like their IPAs are nice. However, some of their "experiments" are just all over the place and aren't much for me.

You've wasted your money. When your local grocery or liquor store has a sale on Stolichnaya or Ketel One, buy some. You won't pay that much more and you should taste the difference. If not, then you've at least learned that you can't tell the difference between delicious vodka and that mediocre liquid named Smirnoff, so it won't matter what quality you buy in the future (go for the plastic bottles).
-
Around here, cheap vodkas are known as slave vodka. While I don't mind not always drinking Grey Goose, I do have certain standards. Stolichnaya is definitely drinkable for the price, but I wouldn't go as far as to say "buy whatever".
Also, keep in mind that not all 'top' vodka is really all it's cranked up to be.
-

Good point, I'd rather have a Jack Daniels than a Seagrams 7.
@Panzercat; Could you change the name of the topic?
Well then, aside from beers I enjoy a good koniak, a glass of traditionally brewed Arabic araq Haddad, as mentioned before, favorite whiskey is Jack Daniels.
And I've never forgotten what a good tequila tastes like.

Yeah sure, I'll help revive this thread. My mom got me some pretty kickass ales for my birthday (which is really tomorrow...) 'cos I'm still a year away from being a real American adult with the right to indulge myself. She also bought me a few books on home-brewing because I've been toying with the idea for a while. Pineapple cider, woo!
-
Tremens is pretty tasty.
-
We home-brewed some dense wine... If beer made you cool, and drinking beer meant you weren't cool: on that scale I'm a not cool person. So I had a glass of this wine tonight and I was noticeably affected. My eyes adjusted slower and my mood was lifted for a bit. First time for me there.
-
I had the Tremens already, and it was fucking great. BTW Smegma, I got some Gueuze too finally :) I'm saving it for a superbowl party tomorrow though. Gonna be all classy and shit while everyone drinks natty ice and pbr

Drink it from a snifter or tulip glass. If you dont have that, use a wine glass.
So good, what brewery is it? Oh, and I demand you tell me what you think of it tomorrow.

Agreed. Had Tremens on one of the best nights of my life. Unfortunately, my palette wasn't at it's sharpest by the time that tasty mother of beer came out (Irish Car Bombs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_car_bomb), anyone?) but it was still amazing.

regarding vodka, a mix called 'Light' is raging popular here, and it's dead simple to make while it knocks you out in no time. Plus it's tasty!
Soda siphon + vodka + some fruit syrup = win.

Man I wish this topic could have been made three years or more ago when I lived next to a liquor store. Searching the web for the right picture sucks when you should have the bottle on your desk.

Drinking tonight, and I am bringing the tuborg. Bought a few budweisers as well, simply because I haven't tasted it.

All right, here's Week #2 of "I'm going to spend a bunch of money drinking fancy Belgian ales every week for the remainder of 2010"
I'm pretty pumped about this week. Last week was the Delirium Tremens, Jolly Pumpkin's Bam Biere, and Fantome's pissenlit Biere de Saison. I thought Jolly Pumpkin's was the best (Belgian style, but from a Detroit brewery), followed by the Fantome, then the Delirium Tremens.
-
That saison is pretty good
-
So I hear! I had the Classic Gueuze tonight. It was incredibly tart.

I got some more of the Cantillon Gueuze today because I think I am addicted now :( I have enough to drink for every day of the week :D

And I've managed to finally get my hands on a some normal Amstel yesterday night, there was a single shop somewhere out on the road back from work I'd never noticed before.
Bought half a trunk full of it :D

Edit: Only 7%...modest, good for the volume.

No never tried it, my shop only carries their standard fare and some of their s**tty "experiments". Im not a fan of most of their stuff aside from their IPA's. I'd be interested to try this one though.
-
Here's stuff from this week that I neglected to post until today, 'cos.
Kriek, Crispin (which I think is the best Cider in the world. Seriously, yo. But it's 14$ a bottle :(), and a lot of Winter Skål. 'Cos it was cheap, seasonal, and had Skål in the name.
-
Lindemann's lambic are really disappointing once you've had the real stuff. Its basically soda water with syrup.
Tell me how the fantome is.
Here is what I had recently.
Dupont is Cidre Bouche Fermier and Unibroue's Don De Dieu
-

I liked the Lindemann's. It's pretty hard to find any other Framboise/Kriek where I live. I'm drinking the Fantome AS I TYPE, and it's pretty freakin' good. I was holding off on this one for a while 'cos the first Fantome I had was my personal favorite of everything I've tried since coming home.
-
Have em order in some Kriek, I think thats easier to grab than straight gueuze.
Its not like Lindemann's isn't palatable, but just not what I really wanted from a lambic.
-
not beer, but I've been drinking a bit of this recently

-
Wow it's been a week already!
Biere de Mars, Hennepin Saison, some Chimay monk-ales (lololol), and a real kriek.
-
Biere De Mars is decent, I like Hennepin too. Chimay is always a good choice too.
Oud Beersel Kriek is so damn good. I demand you tell me what you think of it.
-
That's the one I had tonight. It was really good, and certainly the best kriek I've ever had. But I doubt I've had more than 3 or 4. The Biere De Mars is actually the one I'm looking most forward to. One of the books I'm reading on homebrewing rates it pretty highly.
-
Its not my favorite style, but it gets the job done.
-
yay new week

Sour Ale, Wheat Ale (from Omegang brewery, 'cos it's the only good lookin' one I can find), He'Brew ReJewvenation, Oudbeitje lambic, more Oud Beersel kriek and Lindeman's Framboise. I'm PUMPED.

Watch out of duchess, I'm not a fan of it. I do like other Flander's Red Ale like Panil and a few others, but duchess is like sickly sweet vinaigrette. I can stomach past a few sips, but thats just me. I like the flavor combinations, I just think their's isn't done well. I'd be interested to hear your opnion.
If you like the omegang, try the Allagash white, pretty good.
Stop trying more lambics than me or send them over here.
-
I'll tell you what I think of it. Also, my liquor store doesn't carry Allagash. The Omegang was one of three or four that I could find :( Anyways, you should just come over here and we'll have a lambic party. I forgot to mention in my post, but I am actually starting my first home brew over spring break this week. I got a Lambic Brew Blend to use for yeast/bacteria.
-
When its done, I'll buy a bottle from you.
-
Dutch glory..
Of course!
I'll vouch for this. This is in fact an excellent beer. A bit on the watery side, but definitely very drinkable. And will you look at that bottle? If that doesn't look delicious, I don't know what does. That of course goes for Heineken as well, but this beer has a lot more flavour to it, in my opinion. Good choice, sir.
-
(http://www.starlc.com/smirnoff.jpg)
I don't like beer, never have and never will. If I drink, I drink high alcohol-content stuff like Vodka, Scotch, Rum (Australian rum only) and on the rare occasion, Bourbon.
-
Smirnoff, although drinkable for sure, really isn't the peak of quality. It definitely too pricy for the taste(at least in Denmark), but I reckon that's an image thing.
As for not drinking beer, I get what you're saying. I'm definitely a beer person, but every once in a while I find myself in the mood for something else, and I'll go a night without any beer at all, and stick to liquor or vodka mostly. Makes for a very different buzz, but has the unfortunate side effects of leaving me in a near coma for up to 3 days after, and my bank account empty.
-
When its done, I'll buy a bottle from you.
I'd send it free! I'll have to work out the logistics though, 'cos I don't know what the regulations are as far as sending homebrews through the post. Anyways, it is actually fairly cheap to make lambics. For a 5 gallon output, the yeast/bacteria costs only 6$, and the other ingredients probably only cost around 20-30$. That's like 50 bottles for 30-40$! I contemplated making a Gueuze, but it is too hard to find a Gueuze blend, and the second fermentation takes more time than I want to wait for my first Belgian brew :(
-
I don't drink beer, mainly because I believe Australian beers suck balls :D.
-

Russian vodkas are the best, you can even drink that shjit without mixing it with anything.
But usually I prefer rum. Dark Carriba is good and it's cheap.

Yes... Vodka and orange juice is awesome.
Or go out and buy some jelly crstals and make Jelly shots... they get addictive ;)
-
Either make yourself a Vodka & Gin, or a cocktail of Vodka, peach schnapps, and orange juice, it's best over ice as a drink.

I had the Duchesse tonight. Actually, I am finishing up the last bit of it right now. You are right - I definitely see what you're saying with the sickly sweet vinaigrette. I liked the Duchesse, but I'm finding it hard to stomach the last of the bottle. I think it's best shared; if I'd have had only a glass or two I probably would have given it a 9/10, but right now it's a bit closer to a 7 for me. I already knew it would be a little strange when my mum tried some and told me she enjoyed it, 'cos she normally can't even smell beer without gagging. The nose is almost wine-like.

vodka and redbull is my preferred mix.

Made a Belgian Witbier brew today 'cos it's St. Patrick's day and I don't like Irish Reds lololol

5 gallons! It should only take a couple weeks to ferment+bottle too, so I won't be waiting nearly a year like with the lambics I did last week.

Nice :)
-
I'll buy a bottle!
Plus, dont you have to refrig/cellar ales in order to make them?
I had another flanders red ale that was miles better than duchess.
Here it is: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/641/10643

I'll add that one to my queue :D I've got a few that I want to pick up next time I'm in the liquor store.
Ales don't have to be refrigerated/cellared - primary fermentation for Belgian wheat beer is about 70 degrees (mine has been fermenting at 68), once I move it into secondary fermentation I'll move it somewhere dark at about 60 degrees to help it clarify a bit. The Lambic is less strict for traditional brewing, but even still it's best to keep it at about 68-72 degrees for proper attenuation and fewer off-flavors. It's lagers that have to be chilled during fermentation; I think 45 degrees is the recommended fermentation temperature for pilsners, but it all depends on the yeast you use.
Anyways Smegma man, you should homebrew. I bet you'd like it.
-
Yea, I want too. Just too busy/broke to go out and start right now. Maybe one day after college.
-
I dont really like beer. Maybe I'll grow into it. Either that or what I have had taste really bad.

Girls drink?

KINDA forgot to take the photo before I already popped open da Fantome. I think it's my favorite brewery of all time.
(also, I br00ed a cream stout today)
-
Smegma man, I finally got a hold of the Cantillon Kriek too. I was planning on buying more booze but the kriek was 24$ so I went broke too soon :(
(http://imgur.com/SX2vS.jpg)
Also got La Fin Du Monde, which was AWESOME -- I'm finishing it up right now. And a 6-pack of the Poet oatmeal stout 'cos I was in need of some cheap session beer that rocks. And it does. The fruli was also on sale at a really good price, so I had to get some 'cos I don't know why.
Also, here's my cat hiding between my two secondary fermenters (on the left is a cream stout, on the right is a belgian wheat beer)

I prefer a good local ale (http://www.woodfordes.co.uk/), or some neat Malibu.

I suggest a sticky.

A good canadian beer imo.

It's the old one tho lol. Gives you an idea of the name
( Labatt 50 )
I also like a good apple cider or a good wine.
But i'm not enough experienced in wines/ciders :3

n00bface, how is the brew experiment going?
I just ordered a bunch of lambics, some of russian river's american wild ales, Fantome, and a few japanese white ales.
I might start homebrewing soon. I say we just open our own brewery.
La fin du monde is pretty good, I still prefer some of their other brews over it.
-
I'm not much of a beer guy. There's no occasion in which I'd prefer it over coke, wine, or a fruity drink named after something too embarrassing to say out loud. But I did come across Flying Dog, which make fantastic ales. But I couldn't bother with importing it myself.

Fuck yeah, Fantome! I don't know if I've mentioned it already, but they're my favorite brewery right now. Well, that and Cantillon after having their Kriek last weekend.
The Homebrews are going well. I just bottled the Belgian wheat on Saturday. Check out this mo'fuckin SURPLUS

(I don't know if the picture loaded -- it's my first time attempting a hotlink from Picasa)
Anyways yeah man, let's start a brewery. I'm switching to All-Grain brewing pretty soon. Maybe on the weekend, even.

How much for a bottle?
-
You gotta teach me how to do that at some point..
-
How much for a bottle?
It costs me around $15 USD to make a 5 gallon batch, which works out to be around 50 bottles. That's not including the cost of the bottles, but I reuse them and when I'm short some bottles I just buy other booze, drink it, then soak the labels off. I guess it works out to be around $0.30 a bottle :D And it's of pretty exceptional quality too.

Next time I'm over there we'll start a batch!

You got it, brudda! I actually bought my dad a brewing kit some years back, but then I realised he was an alcoholic(which is a whole other story), so we never really got around to trying it out. Just seemed off at the time.

I'll give you 20$ for a bottle, if you make me a custom label for it :D
-
I'm actually thinking about designing and printing some labels for my brews, if only to differentiate them all. It's not a problem yet because I'm bottling a stout next which is considerably darker than the wheat beer, but once everything's done fermenting I'll have 6 different brews that I'll have to sort through.

SMEGMA MAN I tried the Oud Beersel Geuze and it was the best beer I have ever had in my life.
Monk's Cafe wasn't bad either.
-
I never drinked any of those fancy beers, also I preffer some vodka or stronger stuff.
But the only good enough beer in here is Baltika D:
Best is Baltika 7
(http://files.adme.ru/files/news/part_1/16122/Baltika_7_bottle_NLL.jpg)
So did anyone drink it? :D
It costs about 2$ but it's fine you know..

I can only get what my store carries :( What are your opinions re: Oud Beersel Geuze vs. Cantillon Gueuze btw? I have heard that Cantillon is supposedly the best lambic brewery in the world, but the Oud Beersel Kriek & Geuze are both my favorites in the style.
-
Yea, I prefer Oud Beersel over what I've tried of Cantillon. I have two of their lambics coming today so maybe my opinion will change.
