Title: What You're doing/ playing
Post by: Cyrix on February 21, 2010, 07:47:39 pm
Thought it would be fun for us all to talk about the other games we are playing. PC or otherwise. As you know i just moved. I got my X-box out of pawn so i have been playing it a lot. I beat Modern WarFare 2 a few days ago. Also been playing a lot of Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, which i am having a lot of fun with. Been playing some Unreal 3. I wanted to beat Bad company before number 2 came out so i am also working on that. I reserved copys of FF13 and Bad Company 2 at Game Stop last week. Been playing NHL 10 as well. And playing a little Pure... When i am bored that is. Thinking of buying Forza 2 soon. I played it at my buddys house and really liked it. Bought Lego Batman and Idiana Jones for my girlfriend... So aside from unpacking and setting up my new place i have been gaming quite a bit. Soon i will be getting Soldat back on here so i can play again. So thats whats new in my life. Peace homies!

I'm not much of a gamer. I play a little CS:S from time to time, but nothing really worth mentioning. A couple of the lads and I will sit down for some good old Heroes of Might and Magic III, which is always awesome, since I'm quite possibly the best player in the history of humanity.

And then of course, there's Guitarhero. fuck yeah.

I can't wait until March. I go on spring break starting March 5th until March 14th. I've requested three days off at work: the 9th, 10th, and 11th, seeing as Final Fantasy XIII comes out on the 9th and it takes around 60 hours to beat just the story portion of it, not to mention all of those sidequests.

Sounds prestigious. Good luck..? I have yet to venture into any sort of college, so I don't know if a "good luck" is necessary

Well, games I am playing? I'm looking forward to Mount & Blade: Warband coming out March 30th.

Heroes of Might and Magic is awesome. I have HoMM 1,2,3,4 and 5 :P Might and Magic is even better, I beat MM6,7 and 8 yet, but I don´t own MM9 yet ... My favourite games so far are Soldat and Guild Wars, though :)

A couple of the lads and I will sit down for some good old Heroes of Might and Magic III, which is always awesome, since I'm quite possibly the best player in the history of humanity.

Bet I´d beat you :P

That hurts. I love all FF games but I won´t be able to buy a PS3 :( Though I already own FF1,2,4,5,7,8,9,X,X-2,12,Christal Chronicles (GC) and Crisis Core (PSP) ;) Final Fantasy is the best RPG I´ve ever played.

What do you say I rush over, and we'll tug in for the weekend and have pillowfights in our PJs and play FFXIII?  [pigtail]

You can get it for XBox360 also. But yea, I'm getting it for PS3. Too bad your missing arguably 2 of the best FF games in the series. FF6 and FF Tactics.

As for me, I'm doing my annual run through of 7. Never gets old to me.

Too bad FF3 is only available in Asia ... I don´t have a 360, too, so I can forget FF13 :(

7 is awesome.

I mostly play every good or decent game that dares to be released. Right now I am still working on bioshock 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R call of pripyat. Also for the single player department is the newly released alien vs predator.
In multiplayer I am currently playing the Battlefield bad company 2 beta, and I am hugely looking forward to the full game. I am also playing alien vs predator online. It's awesome when you got your buddies on teamspeak and are teaming up in 3v3v3.

How can I say no to that face?

As for me, I'm doing my annual run through of 7. Never gets old to me.

Based on the screenshots, it seems like the 360 version is severely lacking in the graphics department. It looks like the improved God of War games, which were released for PS2 and remastered for PS3. We'll just have to wait and see if that's true, though.

Also, I played through FF7 on my laptop using a PS3 controller just a couple of months ago, mostly so I could fast-forward through Knights of the Round in the late game. XD

I just bought a 360 with my tax return and I am currently playing dead rising and gears of war. Dead Rising has more of my love though.

Dead Rising was just awesome. I loved it because it didn't take itself too seriously. Seems like Dead Rising 2 will keep that same attitude and will also be available on the PS3, so it's got my money.

I'm currently playing a bunch of games. At the top of my head are Final Fantasy 6, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Sonic CD, Comix Zone, Strider (Mega Drive port), Super Castlevania IV, Contra Rebirth, Ikaruga, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Punch Out (Wii).

Got plenty more games lined up, including Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth, Blaster Master: Overdrive, Earthworm Jim and the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

I hate, hate, HATE X-Box! Microsoft are money wh***s, they charge for everything you normally wouldn't have to pay on PC (even games themselves ;D). Plus many games are simply not meant to be played with gamepads. I prefer good ol' mouse & WASD. I only play X-Box 360 occasionally just to check out some demos and games that don't come out on PCs.

Wii is ok, has some good games and controls that totally pwn gamepads. Good stuff when you want something less intence, something different from mouse & keyboard but not as frustrating as gamepad. Unfortunately there aren't too many good games for Wii out there. Currently playing Okami.

I also have a portable console called Dingoo Digital A-320 which is basically a portable emulator pack. Currently playing some NES classics like Final Fantasy 3. :D

Since my computer is crappy piece of poop - I mostly play indie games or oldies. Played (and beaten) American McGee's Alice a few days ago, not sure what to play next. :S

-----------

Recently discovered that my drawing skills suddenly leveled-up, so I also got back to painting stuff in Photoshop.
Other than that - doing nothing, looking for a job now <_<

I hate them MMORPGs.... Guild wars was ok. Age of Conan was... different. Played Ragnarok, Maple Story, Graal Online, Wonderland Online... I played them all. now, dont shoot me for saying this... I have never... EVER played World Of Warcraft. Last Warcraft i played was #3. The new Star Craft looks cool. I still play Brood War to this day. FF13 will be amazing. Bad company 2 should be awesome. BioShock 2 is awesome. Playing a TON of Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 on my 360.... Love that game. Peace.

Lots of Melee

Little of Bowser's Inside Story (never finished it)

Lots of Ragnarok Online

Little of Dwarf Fortress

I actually prefer to not play all those games I've been hearing about.

With some surprisingly good credit I got for some of my old games ($20 each for R:FOM and MoH: Airborne, wow), I got Heavy Rain. With my pre-order deposit I actually got an additional 3.60 credit put on my Edge card and I got episode 1 of the Heavy Rain chronicles for free, which is launch DLC that is unfortunately having technical problems until the first week of March or something. Sad panda. :(

This isn't Halo, Call of Duty, God of War, Borderlands, Arkham Asylum, Uncharted, or any of those. It's a real adventure game.

You follow 4 main characters who get involved in the case of a serial killer on the loose for the past 3 years, the Origami Killer. This is real stuff aside from the future tech of ARI that the FBI agent uses. These are believable people with different personalities. You will become emotionally attached to them.

It gets to a bit of a slow start but once the story comes together and the characters' plot lines fall in place, it's unlike anything you've ever played. It shatters the typical conventions of video games and while it's not revolutionary for the game industry as a whole, it's certainly something completely different and refreshing in a world of shooters, platformers, and RPGs. It's interactive drama, my friends. It's amazing so far and I'm close to the ending, which is looking to cause tension thick enough to be cut with a knife. I've never been this emotionally invested in a game before. I came out of my comfort zone for this game and I'm glad I did.

Is it really that good of a game? Some people really like it and others hate it. I only played the demo and really liked it.  Oh... FF13 is going to be sweeeeet. FF7 and FF11 are still my favorites. But yea. Speaking of Arkham Asylum... Borrowed it from my buddy and let him borrow Halo Wars cuz i honestly did not like it that much. Feels as though Bungie just put the Halo name on it to sell it because otherwise i would not have bought it. Got my new Game Informer... The Fable 3 development looks sweeet. Maby i will go play some Counter Strike... Peace!

You know you can soft-mod it, right? There are lots of nice homebrew apps for it, like the emulators, MPlayer, backup launcher. So instead of selling - consider modding it, maybe you'll find more useful after that. :P

Well, it mostly involves putting cleverly made files onto an sd card and "booting" to it.

Don't get too interested though. I installed Linux on mine and because the Wii's specs are so damn low, everything took forever.

I did it just so that I can boot to games with a gamecube controller, no wiimote needed.
Texture hacks and unlimited replay/camera were just icing on the cake.

The funny thing is that i get a bsod after playing this game for ~30 minutes, which is kinda awkward, because due to the setting of the "game" im starting to think that they are intentional.

And odd enough i have not needed it yet. I was at game stop and payed of my copy of Just Cause 2. Also reserved Splinter Cell Conviction. Looking forward to them both! Liking the looks of Fable 3. Oh man, God of War III is out on Tuesday and I can't afford it unless I make some extra cash this week. I need to sell some of my older games... to friends. EB is a guaranteed-to-get-rid-of-old-games machine, but they rip you off. Except... in the unusual circumstance of me getting $20 credit each for Resistance 1 and Medal of Honor Airborne when I bought Heavy Rain.

Smart plan. Lol. I dont have a PS3 so i wont be able to play GOW3. But my friend does and will be getting it. On a different note... Resistance was a good game on the PSP. Try it out. I was surprised. Turn it up to hard though or you can walk right through it in a matter of days.

I got two copies of Arkham Asylum for Christmas, and they let me trade one of them in for full store credit even without a receipt. For some reason. Granted, it was right after the holiday.

It was excellent, by the way. Arkham Asylum I mean.

I didn't have too much trouble with him, but as soon as I got to chapter 11, I hit a brick wall of difficulty. I had to grind for a couple of hours just to continue with the game, and I STILL feel underleveled towards the end of chapter 12.

Took your advice to just start grinding on 11. I want to do all the sidequests so it'll get me some levels. I found this one spot after you get Hope's eidolon where you ALWAYS get preemptive and the battle takes 56 seconds and gives you 2960 CP everytime. So what I do is after I fight, I move outta the area so its not shown on the map and go back and keep redoing the fight. After about an hour, Fang has about 500 strength, Vanille has 400 magic, and Snow with 400 strength. Not bad for a short grind.

I am stuck on the dragon in chapter 9. I do good and destroy parts of him but then it gets to a point where he is attacking over and over. I cant heal fast enough to stay alive. Should i cast slow on him? Ya think that would help? Any other thoughts?

Of all things, I've gone back to playing Mario Kart Wii as of late. I've finally unlocked every character (except Mii Outfit B). Even Dry Bowser. I'd half-suspected I never would. :P

There are still vehicles to unlock, but those require getting near-perfect times in the time trials. I hate time trials. I might never bother with that.

So what I do is after I fight, I move outta the area so its not shown on the map and go back and keep redoing the fight. After about an hour, Fang has about 500 strength, Vanille has 400 magic, and Snow with 400 strength. Not bad for a short grind.

A lot of the missions are pretty much impossible to do at your current level, as far as I know. If you're looking for a good grinding spot, check out the far northern end of the Steppe, right before you enter the Mah'habara Pass. There is a King Behemoth fighting a huge, white dog thing (which I obviously forget the name of). They are located downhill and you should see them right after you pass the save point. Since they're fighting each other, you always get a preemptive strike.

When I first started grinding on them, I started out with Lightning, Fang, and Sazh in MED / COM / SYN mode respectively. They're too busy fighting each other to deal with you, so I would just hang back and let Sazh buff my party with Haste, Enfire, and so on while Fang would continuously hit King Behemoth to keep his stagger bar up. I wasn't strong enough to prevent him from standing on his 2 hind legs and transforming / healing himself, but thankfully his stagger bar stays the same after he stands up. Switch to RAV / COM / RAV, stagger Behemoth, and take him out. The white wolf-thing goes down pretty easily because he starts out at half-health and is weak to Fire (which is why Sazh uses Enfire). I usually couldn't manage to stagger him until he had about 5% HP left because his HP drops so quickly.

Anyway, this should probably take you about a minute, maybe 2 and nabs you 6600CP. To make them respawn, just go back to the save point, circle around it, and run back down. The more you fight them, the faster you'll get at it and it eventually becomes really effective.
