So there's been some talk between the forumgoers about adding a shoutbox. Just out of curiosity, let's see how you guys generally feel about it.
But let me be clear, whatever the outcome, the shoutbox is not guaranteed.
Vote away! :)

I don't really think there's a need for the shoutbox. The forums are just about dead anyway...
-
It can be useful to spam stuff in it, But f11.
-
Bringeth that boksh back!
-
Hate to rain on your parade but I don't see this happening
-
I wasn't expecting this to get anywhere anyway so I'm not surprised really. But it never hurts to try.
-
People not intelligent enough to use irc have no business spamming up a shoutbox that's already redundant.
F11
-
Not that I'm a fan of the shoutbox concept, but it's not really the same as IRC to begin with
-
They definitely have their differences, yeah, but they largely serve the same purpose.
-
Except the mIRC channel is always dull as fuck.
-
It couldn't hurt. Just have it on the forum frontpage, and whoever wants to use it can use it.
-
I want Tumor to use it 24/7
That would be the only way to prove a point. Or hit rock bottom.
-
People not intelligent enough to use irc
... Maybe you should actually go out some day...
There's not enough activity here for a shoutbox. Those who tend to chat usually have some other ways to chat already.
-
+ who cares for that? Same as the LobbyChat
-
before asking yourself - would i prefer a shoutbox, you must first ask yourself - do i even give a s**t about the shoutbox
-
F12. And make the shoutbox available only for these, who have more than 100 posts. >:C

What's the point of that? Some of the best people here have under 100 posts.

Anyone that still thinks the forum's irc is a reasonable argument is all wrong. Everyone that made that place interesting is gone. It wouldn't hurt to try a shoutbox out for a month. Then keep it or ax it based off that trial.
Oh and Bone Collector, go back to not being around here. No one wanted to see you again.
-
t you are my hero
-
Fine! Lets give it a try? But make it poorly made like the forums( I mean no flash )
-
I F12'd. ONLY if the admins or moderators are able to keep the stupidity level of the shout box controlled.

hahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah ahha
sorry, screw that part ;) Noone is able to watch the shoutbox all time... or has the patience

That.
And like I said before, newbs could ask for help there instead of spamming the forums.
With IRC you have to download a program, install it and then try to figure out how all that works and what all those config options are for - not exactly newb-friendly, especially if all you want is ask a question or two.
Forums require you to go through that annoying process of account creation. By the time you'd finish creating your account (which you might not even use for the rest of your life) you could already get an answer in a shoutbox.

That was rather narrow-minded of you.
Those who can't use IRC do not "lack intelligence". Same as nobody lacks intelligence just because they can't use Photoshop or code a website. Even those who can are sometimes dumb as rocks.
-
Voted yes.
Shoutbox is always fun, sure, if you keep it under control.
I agree with Graham. We should try a shoutbox for a specific period of time, and then, if it works, leave it for good.
-

-
As long as there's an option to turn it off for yourself, I don't really see much of a hassle... except maybe from FLAB's or jrgp's point of view.
-
Thank you for missing my point, loner and dusty (and spilt for getting it). My point was that we don't need a convenient spam box.
Yes, the mods/admins could definitely keep it under control, I know that for a fact.
But will anything interesting derive from discussions in the shoutbox? Would there even be 'discussions' or will it just be an easier bash pit?
Honestly I'm indifferent about adding it at this point.

You are missing the point of a shoutbox homeslice. Shoutboxes are just for casual conversation. And the bash pit hasn't been around for years, trying to use it in an argument is retarded. Aside from the fact you were like 12 or 13 when it was around.
-

A lot of things were around when I was 12/13, and I still remember them all with great clarity. That, and the entire contents of the bash pit is archived and publicized for all to see (http://archive.forums.soldat.pl/subforum.php?forum=39).
And yes, I'm well aware that shoutboxes serve a very important and useful purpose, as does the one on TMS (http://tms.jrgp.org/2010/index.php?action=all_shouts). It might be good here, but then again it might not. The poll seems to be in its favor; if Flies replies again in the affirmative I might set one up.

[x] Hide shoutbox?
Problem solved.
-
before asking yourself - would i prefer a shoutbox, you must first ask yourself - do i even give a s**t about the shoutbox
love this perspective.

That's like instead of properly sweeping your dirty floor, you decide to sweep all the dirt and dust and grime under the carpet. Nothing actually gets solved and s**t just infinitely builds up. :P

Yeah. :-\

If all start using SB, there won't posting on forum so much like before... I think that...
-
Like everyone used a silly box instead of posting stuff ...
