I thought this would be a cool idea.
In the 'Player' tab (where you configure controls and stuff), I there could be a place where you ould type the name of your country (or select it from a dropdown list).
For Example:
Name: Country:
[ Bond, James Bond |Panda| ] [ United States ]
Then, when in game, when you press F1, the country flag would appear next to their name, or something like that.
A similar feature could be added for clans?
So, when you F1:
Name Clan Country: Points, scores, ping ,etc
Bond, James Bond |Panda| USA

Lol, screenshot? But a good idea nonetheless. It would give extra space for people in the names.
But then again I live on "mars" or "the dustbin".
Or just "noob"
And if its a drop-down list then I afraid they don't list my country. I mean the list might not list every single country.

I would rather have a little flag icon nexto the name.

Pretty neat idea. I like it. You could just have a whole bunch of graphics in one folder called "flags" and then people online figure out which flag by selecting their country and then Soldat just using a number say 0-999. That way new flags and countries can be added seperately of Soldat updates.

It would have to be IP based. Soldat doesn't have a player registration system to all that.

No, it couldnt.
This option should be selectable, but registered people get to have "other" flags, like pirate ones, rainbow ones, the red/blue/white/black ones that are in soldat

No just stick to country flags please, don't make it anymore complicated that it has to be.
Any the 2nd picture is horrible compaed to the one EA found

I like the idea, but I think that like someone said before registered players can specify flags other than the countries. Like a clan flag!

As long as you only have one flag plus country flag with a size limet, I't won't get messy.

I think there should just be a drop down box in options wheer you select your country and then your flag appears next to your name, clan flags and people made flags would be silly people would put rude and offensive things on them ;P

That is a good idea. I also second the clan flags idea. Another idea involves changing the ctf flag, based on the flag of the first member of a team. So during clan ctf matches, each clan would have their own custom ctf flag.

I agree on that part but I'm not sure about country flags. Think about insults such as" ****** mexican lizard" or unintelligent stuff like that but I suppose it would be alright.

but all the polish already have _PL at the end of their name, so I don't think it will increase the insulting ;)

That would be excelent! this way you can avoid distant-country servers and their enourmous ping and lag!

Sometimes though people don't speak but still kill people and then the other person curses at them for killing them.

What? People who are racists are generally too stupid to know what country a flag represents. The best they could do is "No wonder you suck...your flag has three bars of red, white, and blue."
Kidding! ;) (If this is offensive I'll edit it out ASAP)
Anyway, I like the idea a lot. I would really like to see it implemented. After all, Soldat is for everyone; why not let people show a little patriotism? I mean, if you were from Peru or Madagascar or Pakistan or something, wouldn't you be glad to see someone else from your country?

I agree. maybe we can take this one step further then and hold a yearly country tournament, CTF style. Instead of the traditional flags, they would be of the country thats defending it. Maybe even do the country uniform thing too.

Rather than a tag, i'd like to see a small flag icon for each player in the score menu. Sort of like the Flag Icon for your team from Worms Armageddon :)

yes. i have often wondered where the guy with 589 ping lives, but what is the flag for Mars?

It could change the ingame name, like (est) Aquamenti (only with [ ]'s) to Estonian flag.

Well, maybe there could be something like this:

(Flag)
Also, players with blank names shouldn;t be allowed

what if it had an option:
"insert .jpg file here"
type of deal, and people could make like a small confederate flag, or a small one with whatever they want the design, like a straight edge could have a white flag with a black "X" on it.
Then different clans could design their own, to the length and width allowed, and my clans could have a panda

If this idea ever is implemented, then it would be best to stick with country flags to keep it as 'simple' as possible. Just my opinion.

I support this feature 100% I still like the pirate (and if not too offensive) commie flags for reg users. Don't think too highly of the clan flags.

Yup, I support this. And I don't think bumping an old topic is bad since....If you create a new one they'll link you to this old one, but if you bump it you are the idiot.

Yeah, despite the fact that it makes it look like the olympics or something I like the idea.
I think I'd prefer to have a dropdown list to choose from so that way it has to be a country. You could edit the img files to change the flags but other people would still see where you come from.

And it would be good to solve confusion between clan members, so the american players don't accidentally join a russian clan, or austrailian joining a european clan.
