Title: Anticheat, Twitter, Corkboard and other updates
Post by: Shoozza on July 20, 2011, 03:21:18 am
Hello Soldaters!

Sorry for the long inactivity, here are the news:
Most of the time there wasn't much of progress (seems like most people were busy).
Mainly Fryer and I did the coding in the last weeks/months.

Since I have some time now I'll try to get the anticheat finished till Sunday.
Hopefully ramirez will have time to update the changelog till then.

I've written a program which changes icons and titles of the Delphi 7 windows because I couldn't tell from the taskbar which one was the soldatserver and which the soldat client project (see attachement for screenshot).

If you have been around in our irc channel on #soldat.devs you already know that we have been using a cork board for our todo stuff:
http://corkboard.me/view/ccd898fbf94199d537728bfc50f2df05d51ce2d1

We will switch to our mantis bugtracker once the next version of soldat was released.

I've also created an twitter account called Soldat2D:
https://twitter.com/#!/soldat2d (https://twitter.com/#!/soldat2d)

Though I'm not sure how to handle news.
I think I'll start to tweet small updates and keep making larger more detailed devlog threads in the forums.
Sounds good?

Ok time for a small break and then back to coding to get that stuff done till Sunday.

Thanks for your patience!

EDIT: fixed twitter link

Maybe you should try winebottler (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/)?

Yeah I don't mind ;)

Would take a while if it will ever happen because there are a lot of changes which need to be done to make soldat work on mac os x or linux.
Rewrite the rendering code (Directx -> OpenGL)
Rewrite input handling code (DirectInput -> SDL?)
Rewrite network code to use a crosplatform library.
Rewrite updater to work on other operating systems.
Rewrite the gui as it will not compile under mac os x or linux.
Replace all windows related function calls with portable ones.
Make Soldat compile with Lazarus/FreePascal.
And other stuff I probably forgot.

It's not that easy :).

I know its not easy, and its not for now. Far far away, when all bugs and stupid shits are fixed. But, aslike the quake3 someday, if Soldat stand still alive, u should consider using openGL.

But, for now i dont even play anyway.

If it was rewritten it would be in OpenGL
