Title: ultra boost
Post by: zyxstand on June 11, 2006, 03:02:00 pm
(yes this is the same topic as in the old forums...)

this idea is rather simple in nature and practicality. With a click of a button (or keyboard stroke), your jet boots will burn half (or all) of the fuel tank to give you a VERY powerful boost upwards (or whatever direction ur boots are aimed (ie: superman style)). Very useful to make a quick and effective getaway in those tight situations.

example:
imagine your chasing the efc and you're reloading your barret. He's a few seconds away from his flag and your right behind him. Just before he's about to score, you jump, go to prone (superman), and expel your entire fuel tank to make a last effort to capture your enemy's flag. You do so right before he gets it and are able to successfully flee. (Later, your flag gets returned and you score.)

comments/suggestions?

Edit:
As suggested by Tybs, it should take all your fuel and should only work if you have at least 3/4 amount left. Further, I believe that if it's a map with no or rather little amount of fuel, you should not be allowed to use the boost. Also, due to overheating, you can't refill your jet boots for 3 seconds. Perhaps it would be even more fair if there's a 1 second delay before use, meaning you have to hold down the boost button for a second (like the barret delay).
I wish MM were here to give us his thoughts about this idea...

Nothing wrong with this, it would actually be pretty cool.

Well, I'll approve this over the Halo Punch idea under one condition.

The duration of the boost depends on jet pack amount... and, the boost requires the entire jetpack

Yeah, this should be implemented.  ;)

No no jbj.  Imagine yourself using the boost in the map Rok.  You'll be thrown OUT of the map (through the polygons) because of your insane high speed!  It should have the same effect on any map with a minimum requirement of jet fuel as set by the map editor.

Maybe when you jump and push jet down, you'll go to that maximum hight you normally would, but quicker.

technically you can't jump the same height in a shorter time in real life.  to do that you would need to jump harder to gain more speed to reach the same height faster - but then you'll get higher...  You shoul dbe able to jump like 4 or 5 times as high AT LEAST

Maybe only put this is non realistic games. In realistic, you can't "super jump"

I dont'suggest an ultraboost but:

When you press more times quickly jetpack button more quick you fly with jetpack and more jetpack energy wastes.

I personally dont like it (sorry to all those who do) because:
A. It's terribly against physics of the game (depending on how SUPER you want it), and
B. It will be harder to see who is speed hacking, because you go so fast.
C. Have you ever jumped when you use your jet?  If not I suggest you try it.
D. It would explode your gostek, if you were to burn that much "fuel"

good idea, but many of the flaws are mentioned in the post above me. i personally would like it, but minor changes in the idea would have to be tweaked. great idea tho :)

How about a sertain chance of missfire, Burning of all that fuel AT ONCE cant be that safe yknow, like theres an 30% chance that the boots will blow up?

I don't like this idea...an evasive strategy should be reliable, adding in misfires like this would make the game less skillful and a bit silly.

Or instead of that making the boost hard to control, just like a barret has bink. If it was hard to control people would only use it in desperate situations, instead of everytime they get a full tank. :)

i think it would be kinda cheating if you wre playing a capture the flag map, people would be boosting the whole time!!!

It would also make bad collision detection, but then again it wouldnt hurt to try..

I kind of like it, but it would give autos an advantage because they'd just have to adjust their aim a little, where a Barret/M79 would be screwed.
