Title: SOLDAT 1.6 RELEASED!

The long wait is finally over!

It's been over 2 years since the release of Soldat 1.5, and a lot has happened during that time.
At the end of last year a new development team was assigned to take over the development of Soldat.
Since then we've worked hard on fixing many bugs and adding many wanted features in Soldat.
At first we were going to release the new version as Soldat 1.5.1, but over the months we've
added so many new features and fixed so many bugs, that we decided it's appropriate to call
the new version 1.6 instead.

- Added Fuzzy Hashed HardwareIDs
- Added ability to paste IP:Port/Pass formatted strings into the IP field of the Join Game tab. soldat:// URL's are also supported
- Added 9 new Polygon types: Only (Team Colour) collide Polygons, and Only (Team Colour) + Enemy Team Bullets collide Polygons. Carrying a flag will disallow the player passing through any of these Polygon types
- Added Polygon type: Exploding Polygon. Touching an Exploding Polygon will instantly blow up the player and throw their limbs around like confetti
- Added Polygon type: Hurt Flaggers. Touching this kind of Polygon while holding a flag will periodically do damage (double 'hurt' poly damage)
- Added Polygon type: Only flaggers collide. Anyone carrying a flag will be unable to pass through this type of Polygon
- Added Polygon type: Bounce polygon (polygon normal magnitude determines bounciness)
- Added 'End of round...' text will display to Spectators in Survival Mode. Appears above 'Following <Player>' text
- Added Score Board (F1) will now display the current Server Name at the top left corner
- Added Score Board (F1) will now display the "Server Info" message under the server name
- Added Option to disable rendering of background scenery for improving performance on low end systems
- Added FPS Limiter
- Added top right label color changes on inactive/active window - like it was in good old Soldat
- Added option for minimum respawn time for team based games
- Added bots now have a unique icon appear in place of their ping in the scoreboard
- Added ingame Weapon Statistics for Registered players (Press F2)
- Added "Offline/LAN Mode" for playing Soldat multiplayer with no connection to the Internet. To join a server in Offline/LAN mode, the server must have "Connection=LAN" set in its soldat.ini, or started with the -lan parameter
- Added "Spectators can only use Team Chat in Survival Mode while a round is active" can be enabled with AntiSpy_Chat=1 in soldat.ini
- Added Join_Password line in soldat.ini

- Modified can't send empty chat messages, can send chat messages only containing spaces
- Modified the link to the forums to point to http://forums.soldat.pl
- Modified changed default window fonts in Config to Arial
- Modified changed fontsize of checkboxes to be more readable
- Modified RayCast to use line intersection tests instead of checking several points on the line
- Modified removed bot seeing quality options from Config.exe (no longer needed)
- Modified weapons menu can now be disabled when alive
- Modified removed Raycasting_quality setting from soldat.ini
- Modified improved readme
- Modified updated translations
- Modified enabled minimap for non-registered users
- Modified ESC menu is now centered in the screen always
- Modified ingame keys - ALT + F1 is now hide player names, F2 is weapon stats, F3 is minimap on/off and ALT + F3 is FPS
- Modified replaced many of default maps with remakes: Veoto, ctf_Kampf, ctf_Lanubya, ctf_Maya2, ctf_Ruins, ctf_Run, ctf_Snakebite, ctf_Viet, inf_Argy, inf_Fortress, inf_Outpost
- Modified renamed maps: ctf_Maya2 as ctf_Mayapan, ctf_Death2 as ctf_Death, ctf_Dropdown2 as ctf_Dropdown, ctf_MFM2 as ctf_MFM
- Modified changing mouse sensitivy ingame now increases/decreases by 1% per button press rather than 5%
- Modified players can no longer grab the flag when a round of Survival has already ended. You can still capture or return
- Modified Spectators can only use Team Chat in Survival Mode while a round is active. Only applies to Spectator team
- Modified Dead/Spectator players in Realistic mode can only see enemies the player they are following can see
- Modifier players can not see enemy team chat in Realistic mode if the enemy player is not visible
- Modified Team Bink is now reduced by 50% when Friendly Fire is disabled. You will get no Team Bink at all if you are not moving
- Modified Score Board (F1) has been redesigned for team-based game modes
- Modified Score Board (F1) can now be scrolled up/down (only if required) by using the Page Up/Down keys. An arrow will appear on the right-center side of the board if scrolling is available
- Modified Score Board (F1) is now sorted by caps/kills/deaths
- Modified Weapons Menu will now only display non-default values (on Mouse Over) if joining a Weapon Mod server

Good job guys, happy to see some serious progress over the last month with this dev team. 2 release candidates and a release in the same month is pretty impressive considering what most of us are used to.

Great release , we were so waiting for this , congratz to the dev team .

but i have one really big problem , my fps which used to be around 64 moved up to 100 and is really unstable and yes i tried disabling FPS limit and high resolution timer , any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks

Good job, but now Soldat won't work for me. I'm getting the Direct X error with Vista. I've ran Soldat as the administrator, checked the bit rates, and it's in compatibility mode. I'm lost.

It's a bug that somehow creeped into the final release. ;) We've already fixed and will be releasing a hotfix later (we still want to see if there are other bugs so we can fix them for the same hotfix too). For now you can do this to fix it:

1) Use another resolution than 640x480 (if you're registered)
2) Play in windowed instead (you can set the window scale to 100%, and it'll fill your screen)

EDIT. Actually I figured a way to actually play at 640x480. Open config.exe and choose custom resolution and use 639x480 as the resolution. It should work. Note that whenever you open config.exe again, you need to change it to 639x480 again due to a bug in config.exe (that'll also be fixed in the hotfix release).

The download URLs were broken for a few hours and are all working now.  Please  please please report any server or site issues in the 'Server issue' thread or PM me and jrgp so that they do not last that long.

Please use the official download URLs only so that we can see how many downloads there are, but also for your own safety.  In the past there have been 3rd party mirrors of the game which included viruses or were outdated.

Be sure to download only from the main site, or sites which link to a download URL from *.thd.vg or *.soldat.pl.

I can get Soldat to work in windowed mode but I want to play in full screen especially when I reg and get all those nice resolutions =). Besides windowed is too small for me and resizing it looks really bad. I have checked for directx; I have 11, rebooted, checked for video card updates, Soldat is running in XP compatibility mode, running video compatibility mode (in config).

Try changing Soldat to use 639x480 custom resolution in Config.exe

But note that whenever you open Config.exe you have to input the values again.
This bug is already fixed and a hotfix will be released later alongside with other bug fixes.

As already mentioned, it's a bug that will be fixed with the next hotfix. Try setting the resolution to 639x480 if you want to play in windowed mode. EDIT: Sneaky Shoozza... :P

Arrgh. If someone gets this bug on a demo, please send us the demo so we can debug it further. Seems like this is pretty impossible to track down otherwise since it's so random.

Apparently they slipped in a bug. They'll release a hotfix soon, where this will be fixed.

While editing the maps, please rename all climb maps to properly conform a naming standard. So many climbing maps have ctf_, kz_, and whatever else they could use.

1. It takes awhile to clean stuff up, afaik next up they're gonna clean up the code at try to fix some of the server-client sync.
2. If there were personal accounts I would be very very very disappointed.

4. Fryer might fix the collision in the next release (I think), or maybe it was just something he really wanted to get fixed.

good work

along with the team bug and the chinese lang when minimized, i noticed that when i use the AltGr key for taunting it doesn't work occasionally... (left alt key works though) no idea why

also one question (dunno if it has been asked alrdy):
i always have to open up a video on youtube in order to get my video card to a higher gpu clock and stuff..
so if i just run soldat without doing that it is quite unplayable due to the low performance! any idea how to fix this in a more elegant way? (got an HD4850)

Account system was implemented in beta, then removed. Its useless in Soldat.

Embedded anticheat support s fine, but the rest is minor changes. Authors prefer to add new types of polygons, ways of dying, blood splashing effects - instead of focusing on general things!

The major problems of this game are:

  • 'fake hits' ingame, which will remain as long as a proper synchro mechanism is implemented
  • lack of account personalisation - players bound to their dynamic IPs instead of personal accounts
  • ingame chat - this is the only game I know where I m not able to mute/ignore players I want!
  • ingame thingies - it s still possible to get oneself into/through texture...

Dear developers, I want this game to be The Game, not an everlasting evolving student project.

You are absolutely right and I was saying the same. Actually (thanks to Shoozza and maybe yet someone else) they changed their minds a bit and focused on bugs more. Of course, removing old bugs did not stop from adding new ones.

Oh God, why i should register again, if i registered my old 1.5? WHY again i should have to pay? stupid..i cant change resolution when im not registered..  :( and 12 Euro? That isnt seriously  ::)

Open Config and enable VSYNC, FPS Limit(60) and High Resolution Timer options.

cool seems to work without even increasing the gpu clock thanks (300 instead of 800 mhz :E)

I've just noticed a bug when OldScoreBoard in soldat.ini is enabled. I transffered textures,mods, profiles etc from 1.5.1 so it could be some text error[i think not]

@TheV Please relax next time before you post. Shouting doesn't help. I prefer a normal discussion.

I hadn't had the time to review the maps so I decided to let other people handle this stuff.
I am well aware that some people don't like remakes.
Will have to talk with the other devs about this when I finally have more time and when I've read the map suggestion thread.

Please make sure to state the issues you have with maps in the map suggestion thread (in a objective way).
I know you really care about Soldat so I trust you to think about our time and state your opinion in a way that makes it easy for us to understand you.

Not angry, it's just frustrating when the last to "updates" 1.5.1 and 1.6, try to redo amazing maps, and call them better/updated maps.

Snakebite is an amazing map, and the remake is 100% worse than the original.

Basically, this is coming from a person who has seen games die, and slowly die at that, when you have a game with a dwindling fanbase, and you take the soul of the game; The maps, away from the players who have played and learned the maps, inside and out, they no longer want to play that game because you just removed the maps that they have always liked/loved.

Maps that are horrible renditions of their previous; ctf_Ruins, ctf_Snakebite, ctf_Kampf, ctf_Lanubya, ctf_Skorpion, ctf_Dropdown, ctf_Run... and that's just off the top of my head.

If you wish to add newer, "better" default maps, then look for maps that meet the requirements to be a default map. IE, don't change a perfectly good map that someone spend time on and was lucky enough to get that map into soldat. It doesn't make any sense for you to replace Great maps with "renditions". It's tacky, ugly, and rude at the original map makers expense.

So I, along with many others would PREFER AND LIKE if you would leave maps alone, and add NEW default maps that are good enough to be added.

Angry, frustrated - same thing really..

I agree that many of the remakes are rather pathetic but there are some good ones as well. You're probably just not used to them, so try playing on them some longer and maybe you'll change your mind. Me and quite a few others liked ctf_Kampf remake. But yeah, I can understand why many of them aren't liked. :/
I'm sure the mappack will be fixed soon though. Maybe even in the next hotfix.

Why is it even though I tried re-registering with my key, the game still says "Unregistered version"?

I had the same error when i inserted the wrong resolution as in: selecting a resolution your monitor doesnt support.

Reporting bug - after downloading a map, I spawn in a polygon or in the enemy base the first time.

Polybugs seem to be worse in realistic, but explosions no longer kill through thick walls - good job on the second.

I believe there's a bug in map downloading. If server has different map version you will be kicked of course BUT after reconnecting new version isn't downloaded, so you're getting kicked again. I had to remove the map from my 'Soldat\maps' folder, only then new version was downloaded from the server.

as owner of pretty popular Saw & Law server I'd like to say that I totaly disagree with the new both saw and law changes. Sawing without reloading is totaly pointless as before you needed just like 2 secs to reload saw but still it was pretty often to happen that you ran out of ammo right when charging at an enemy. Tho some ppl found it annoying this was essence of sawing, now saw is less realistic so if I  were you I'd leave saw settings as they were in 1.5.0.

Law even now after "weapons balance" is even more unequal to saw than it was in 1.5. You see, chasing an enemy with endless ammo in saw doesn't give such advantage as x2 (seems like x2) less reloading time in laws. Now law is way more effective than saw. Earlier dodging law missle gave you a chance to attack the lawer but now when you end dodging manouver lawer already has another missle comming. I'm worried especialy because I had planned to make a Saw & Law league long ago, and it's supposed to start in a week or two. I understand that both saw & law are used in other mods than just S&L but that's my opinion and I belive I'm speaking in name of many players from my server.

Edit: and yeah, you didn't fix the saw bug I mentioned about Shoozza

Sorry but reloading with saw was a pain before.
A good sawer has to use prone cancels and use slide bugging very often.
And with the previous version it happened frequently that the reload mechanism got stuck because of a nade prone cancel command or a nade slide.
I'm very glad this annoyance is gone.

Come on,
The essence of sawing is movement, speed, acceleration, anticipation, positioning, ...
Not reload management.  ???

Still I don't think weapon balance should be done depending on a bug like prone cancel. My main point tho is that saw compared to law has got way worse than it used to be in 1.5. I belive law reloading time should be increased. Just imagine 14 slots server with 4 lawers on each team with that low reloading time. Moreover even 1vs1 saw vs law, law has way bigger advantage (just as I said before)

About weapons balance'

as owner of pretty popular Saw & Law server I'd like to say that I totaly disagree with the new both saw and law changes. Sawing without reloading is totaly pointless as before you needed just like 2 secs to reload saw but still it was pretty often to happen that you ran out of ammo right when charging at an enemy. Tho some ppl found it annoying this was essence of sawing, now saw is less realistic so if I  were you I'd leave saw settings as they were in 1.5.0.

Law even now after "weapons balance" is even more unequal to saw than it was in 1.5. You see, chasing an enemy with endless ammo in saw doesn't give such advantage as x2 (seems like x2) less reloading time in laws. Now law is way more effective than saw. Earlier dodging law missle gave you a chance to attack the lawer but now when you end dodging manouver lawer already has another missle comming. I'm worried especialy because I had planned to make a Saw & Law league long ago, and it's supposed to start in a week or two. I understand that both saw & law are used in other mods than just S&L but that's my opinion and I belive I'm speaking in name of many players from my server.
I'll have to talk with... Skoskav then I guess? ;)
Until then you can use your own weapon mod.

Can't help you with insufficient information. The gfx seem to be in one piece and they are not ridiculous.

Yep the dates are DMY.

Only United States, Belize, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Canada use the MDY format (and most of them use other formats too like Canada which uses 3 formats).

yo noob, yes they been delaying alot still wondering if its a hotfix..

MSAC not working yet, becuz MR is working to PERFECT his code or smth.

Shoozza said somewhere that a hotfix should be out in 2 weeks or so.

i have a problem with 1.6 - downloading maps always get stucked at between 2-6 % i cant download maps at all...
at 1.5 it happend only sometimes but now it happens all the time... i have windows7..
